LARRIAN is now a thing! Sorry if my voice sounds a bit strange compared to usual, i've been a bit unwell and still getting over it. Thanks for tuning into the breakdowns of The Gilded Age every week it's been great hearing everyones theories and us guessing some of the story lines correctly! Now we just have to hope that a season 3 get's green lit.
There better be a season 3 . The best series on TV! So ecstatic that Larry and Marian finally realized what we all did , they’re a perfect match ! When Banister took Aunt Aida’s orders I fell off my seat ! Also , so happy for Jack seems to be going into business with Larry . Sweet boy Jack deserves it. Don’t trust the French Lady Maid . She seems Sus! lol
I don't see how Bertha could object to Marian. She was one of the first 'old people' who was friendly to the family. She was also instrumental in George winning his court case.
What Bertha might not like is Marion's fascination with teaching. She needs a socially ambitious daughter-in-law, like Regina Beauffort from the age of innocence. A girl from a noble but impoverished family. The dowry is not important, because at best it would amount to a couple of annual income of the Russells. The main thing is that the next Mrs. Russell would no longer be the daughter of a potato digger, but the granddaughter of the Livingstones and others.
@@edwardhoward347Marian will turn out to be an heiress of her late father fortune, that would bump up the the whole family into ultra wealthy old family.
I nearly spit out my cocktail with that jab! Although, I'm not certain that Bannister would have made such an unsubtle remark. It seemed borderline disrespectful to his former employer.
Bannister is a pro at his job & has many years of experience. He has spoken up against Agnes when needed. He did this as he knows how things work, it wasn’t a disrespect towards Agnes. It’s a development you can’t ignore.
This was a predictable season, but I still enjoyed every minute! I was shocked and pleasantly surprised that Aunt Angha supported Marion's decision not to marry
@@BrainPilot We did see glimpses of Aunt Agnes' kindness throughout the series but they were offset by her sternness. I think that she always was a person with common sense vs. being a frivolous person.

@@Zapp33311 True enough. There was no social welfare back in those days. It was work, marry well or starve. Also one's family was one's social security. People with next to nothing were forced to depend on the few charities that existed at the time. Agnes could have probably married a prosperous farmer or a shopkeeper. But she didn't want to loose her family's social status.
Larry is a great match for Marion! I’m so glad that they’re finally moving forward. I can’t wait to see the clock investment take off. Peggy was right to leave the paper. I want Marion to teach at one of the integrated schools.
Bertha will approve of Marian as she will be Ada’s heiress. Also, I still think Marian’s railway stocks she inherited in Season 1 will end out bringing her a fortune.
Larry and Marian! Ada is now the lady of the house! Peggy chooses herself! Bertha wins! Well, for now. George will not be happy she sold off their daughter. Loved this finale. HBO needs to give them a 3rd season.
I think Bertha would support Marian and Larry, especially because Marian was open and kind to the Russells from the beginning. She has also been very loyal and reliable to Bertha and the rest of the Russells through all the drama, which are qualities I think Bertha would admire. Knowing this show, I wouldn't be surprised if maybe she is hesitant at first, but I think she would at the very least come around to supporting the match.
That’s one thing Marian was loyal to the Russells from the START and wasn’t afraid to defend them amongst society ladies who look down on them. I feel like money wise would have Bertha skeptical at first but she would then see the bigger picture of Marian being a perfect match for Larry and her coming from old money
What Bertha might not like is Marion's fascination with teaching i e middle class job. She needs a socially ambitious daughter-in-law, like Regina Beauffort from the age of innocence. The main thing is that the next Mrs. Russell would no longer be the daughter of a potato digger, but the granddaughter of the Livingstone and others. She'd rather give Marion a million dollars to build schools, but she wouldn't agree Marion standing at the blackboard with a pointer.
I think Bertha will support Larry/Marian primarily because she just sold her daughter up the river. One of her children should be able to marry whom they chose. Just a thought.
@@MimiFranco-q2o I agree with you' I think having caught a Duke in her snares, she will be open to Larry and Marian. Also after Larry's affair with the widow, she would probably be relieved that he's choosing someone with old money and Old New York connections.
I just loved the way things ended on season 2. Can't wait for season 3! Hopping that Marion and Larry stay together, they are such an adorable couple! I started like Bertha much more when she offered the opera tickets to her employee. Aunt Ada inheriting a well deserved fortune made me very happy!!!!
They will ! This series isn't meant to last 10 seasons plus it's not that much into fancy drama like The Young and the Restless so... Yeah, they'll definitely be planning their wedding in the next season. I bet the wedding will close the series.
@@shizukagozen777 - The show was meant to last more than 2 seasons. There was an article online the day the finale ran that quoted an HBO exec, name and all, claiming the series is on the bubble. The viewership doesn’t justify the big budget it takes to produce it. While there is hope, of the three shows listed one has already been canceled. That’s what I meant when I said I hope we get that far. The key story lines were tied up nicely in the finale. Of course there are some new themes emerging but if there are no more episodes the fans have enough closure. I certainly hope if we don’t get another season, even an abbreviated one, they at least do a movie length series finale to allow us to see how the futures of Oscar, Peggy, Gladys and Jack and of course Marian and Larry play out. IMO the ideal ending would be the wedding of Marian and Larry being the social event of the season with both families, including Agnes and even Ms. Astor, who have finally chilled toward the Russells, there to support them. Of course Peggy would be in attendance too but including her parents and perhaps a significant other would be even better. After all it’s Marian’s and Peggy’s stories that have driven the the series. What better way to end it than showing Marian’s marriage finally brings the old and new of NYC closer together?
@@hannaj4032 You misunderstood my comment, I didn't say that the series is supposed to last for only 2 seasons, just that it's not meant to be a very long series. I personally think that the next season will be the last one. You're right, and indeed, if they decide to cancel it right now, I wouldn't be too mad because like you said "the key storylines were tied up nicely in the final". What about we get another season and then 1 or 2 movies just like they did for Downton Abbey ? 😋 I honestly think that DA is way more popular than TGA which justified the making of the movies but we can still hope to get at least 1 movie ! 😋 Yeah, the wedding would be a very nice final touch, and of course Peggy would be there too, Marian will obviously want to have her by her side.
I don't know that you can dismiss the idea of Larry going into business with Jack that lightly. If the Russells in general are a sign of the cracking of the walls of high society, then even a nouveau-riche man like Larry going into business with a house servant is an even bigger one. Another lovely plot point that was glossed over was Bertha giving the tickets to the opening of the Met to two of her own house staff. Their story is kind of cute anyway, but for a social climber like Bertha to do this is another sledgehammer to the walls of class. I think we're going to see a lot more of this in Season 3 if there is one.
Yeah it would be interesting if season 3 shows Jack's "elevation." I remember the scene at season 1 finale. Where he and the maid were peeking in at the Russell's ball. He says something like "Maybe we will be invited there someday. After all, this is America."
Jack is Tom Branson. Larry doesn't have any prejudices, because he even made fun of their origin. After all, who knows, if Bertha's father had been absolutely broke, maybe she would have been a servant like Enid Turner.
Was it predictable, perhaps, but in this time we're living in, a little good news for a change is welcomed!! I wanted to end on a positive note since we rollercoasted the earlier part of the season!😄👍👏👏
I can’t help but feel that Berthas new French ladies maid is one to watch. She seems abit sly to me with her little comments to the chef and notice how the camera focused on her putting Bertha/Gladys expensive extra sparkly necklace away 🤔 There was also the moment Bertha said about her not being a trouble maker and she could stay. I’ve got a feeling she may be of the sticky fingered variety and we will see it play out in season 3 👍 In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if she turned out to not really be French. Perhaps this is why she keeps making snidey comments to the chef because he pretends to be French in front of Bertha’s guests. They’re seems to be a lot of focus on the chef and housekeepers relationship blossoming too which means that the housekeeper will potentially be distracted in season 3 leading to a perfect opportunity for frenchie to get her mitts on Berthas bling 😂 just my theory.
I think the new French mais prob was planted there by the old maid…im forgetting her name right now lol the one who married the wealthy old guy. Wouldn’t be surprised if she hired her to be an insider at the Russell’s so she could keep tabs on Bertha 🤔 and so she can destroy her from the inside out but Mrs Russell is too smart for that to last long
I noticed her too and have a feeling she’s a troublemaker! I think, though, the scene of the head mistress asking Bertha if someone could stay on was referring to the young Adeline. I might be mistaken, though.
Predictable, eh maybe. But I think in some shows or series it’s welcome at times in subtle ways. I enjoy that Russell’s story is quite resembling of Consuelo Vanderbilt story. Which Gladys has been made to “look” or have some traits of Consuelo. So they took history and meshed it in nicely while keeping the Russell still different. Then, the unpredictability to me was, Agnes kindness in her own anxiety of “poverty” , she showed compassion to Mariann and think showed she is human and it was unexpected. Then, Larry going into business about the alarm clock! So awesome. I think we definitely have a season 3 coming! I loved this episode!
Don’t forget the kindness Agnes showed to Armstrong. IMO she sees some parallels with her and knows if not for her lineage and marrying into money she’d probably be right where Armstrong is. FM with all of her good fortune she’s as much a sour puss as Armstrong is. I do believe her character showed a lot of growth this season. It’s clear she adores Marian.
I love your commentary. It is spot on in ways you might not think. As an African American fan of the show you are correct about the story line concerning the colored schools feeling like it was “ shoe- horned” into the season. You are correct not because the storyline was contrived but because it was an accurate depiction of real people and real historical events. The relationship between Marian and Peggy is plausible but the basic separation between black and white communities during this period was real. What the series does so beautifully is to reveal through entertainment how the foundations of enormous wealth were available to some but not all. We are seeing that what makes Bertha’s wealth snd ambition possible is George’s brilliance growing his diverse businesses. At the same many whites were living in extrreme poverty which helps to explain Armstrong’s bitterness about life in general; the emergence of the labor movement and how immigrants were pitted against native born in the labor movement. I get caught up in the beauty and grandeur of the Russell and Van Rhyn’s lifestyle. Who wouldn’t. But the reason this period is called the Gikded Age is that gilt is only a shiny surface that can conceal serious problems underneath. I like you can’t wait for season 3 and hope you continue this terrific channel for fans.
Bertha doesn’t know how much George spent on her behalf, which is why he denied her more money for a Duke who is being passed around & looking for a higher bidder. George loves his wife, don’t think they will divorce, but it will be a battle of wills with Gladys in the middle. Can’t wait to see the carnage / drama next season.
@@hannaj4032 I know. But I have hope George will do the right thing like he did when chose not to shoot at protestors. It’s better TV if George & Bertha fall out over this.
The season was a bit rushed. The marriage and death was poorly paced. It happened so fast. Also, pimping out your daughter to the Duke seemed a bit ill themed.
I also felt the season was very rushed, particularly concerning Ada and Luke's storylines. And Bertha "pimping out" Gladys to the duke is historically accuate in terms of the Dollar Princesses of the time and having Bertha being based off Alva Vanderbilt and her marrying her daugther, Consuelo, to the Duke of Marlborough. It became apparent in Ep. 5 that Bertha was pushing the Duke on Gladys by deciding what dress Gladys was going to wear to the Duke's dinner and having Gladys sit next to the Duke.
I hope to god Bertha don’t cause trouble for Marian. Marian plays a huge part in her being able to continue building the met, not be ruined in society, and was one of the few people that defended her name in old society when people bashed her. But knowing how Bertha is she going to still be annoyed simply because she got less money despite Marian being more accepted in society than she is. I feel like George and Gladys would talk sense into her. Agnes of course will be hesitant but since her power is secondary now to Ada she can’t really do much
Marion is the perfect match for Larry because of her descent, even if she only had $30. The next Mrs. Russell should not be the daughter of a potato digger, but the granddaughter of the Livingstons and others. So that's exactly what Bertha wants. But Marion's profession - not at all . Berta would rather give her a million to build schools, but not to be a teacher herself.
@@edwardhoward347 you right because Marion has some serious pedigree . Marion already accepted by the old money even though in a sense she penniless. Bertha may just over look the money thing too but of course they may clash on the humble part of Marion😭😩
Thank you for this summary. Good show, good acting, good story line--my favorite show. In my opinion, definitely deserving of another season...with much more to come!👏🏾👏🏾
What about Oscar? He was notably not present at the family meeting. The storylines were predictable this season, but enjoyable just the same. Hopefully, Oscar is not contemplating being the first to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge. He needs to hire Pinkerton's and find Maude. He won't recover the money, but may restore his reputation.
I agree that the story covering the black school was shoehorned in and not developed with the care and attention of the other stories… we can only hope for more in the next season
To be fair, Bertha is also securing an immensely grand position for Gladys as a Duchess. Gladys would have opportunities and connections and privileges beyond your wildest dreams.
Oof, you should look up Consuelo Vanderbilt and her marriage to a duke (since Bertha is loosely based on Alma Vanderbilt) her mother married her off and they were both miserable in their marriage. I really hope this doesn't happen, but more than anything, I REALLY want to see more of Gladys and see her character get some spotlight for a change
@@willow4900 yes! I know that story well. Consuelo Vanderbilt married the Duke of Marlborough at the behest of her mother and it was an unhappy marriage. This Duke in the show seems really nice though, but yes I don’t think they’re setting it up to be happy. I am just saying that you can understand Bertha’s desire as a mother for that prestige and position for Gladys. She has already said that she doesn’t want Gladys to be a banker’s wife in Manhattan-so what does that leave then? First Lady, royalty, nobility? Maybe marrying Mrs. Astor’s son?
@@msfriendsfan4ever788 so called “tiger moms” today do the same thing pushing their kids into top schools and career paths and pushing them to date/marry certain people. Just saying you can understand the motive but yes she doesn’t seem to consider what Gladys wants at all.
Season 2 ended quite the same way as in Season 1 where Larry walks Marian to her house after the events' hosted by his family. I did hope he kissed Marian in S1 ending itself, as Larry was smitten by her at first sight. 🥰 But idk why I don't feel happy for them as I did for Mary and Mathew in Downton Abbey. Probably because their union is not as tragical as it was for Mary and Mathew.
No, I'm glad it didn't happen in season 1 because Marian was in love with her fiance and she didn't know Larry enough for that. Season 1 and 2 are perfect how they are.
Why do that? If you’re referring to Mrs. Morris, they deserved their bitter end. As for the Fanes, George did help them, despite their heartless and ruthless plot to destroy him and his family without conscience!!
Why would there be a third season? Every loose end is neatly tied up in this final episode. The Van Rhijin family is saved by rich Uncle Luke. Peggy extricated herself from the messy Thomas Fortune situation. Marian’s marriage to Dashiell is off and Larry is now on board. Larry and Jack will make a fortune. The Opera War is over; Bertha secured the duke’s attendance and we know how that was achieved.
Sad, but I agree with you 100%. Every conflict has been resolved, every loose end has been tied off, all justifiable vengeance has been taken - there is simply nothing left to address. A season three would simply be like the start of an entirely new series. Or, more accurately, it would be like a sequel rather than a continuation.
Ummm Larry and Marian romance, Ada being the boss of the house now and her navigating being in charge of her older sister, George and Larry finding out glady was basically sold away and them being at odds with Bertha. There’s a lot to be told next season. You seriously think everything is tied?💀💀
@@Amareehall101 Yes. Everything is tied off quite nicely. The romance between Larry and Marian is the romance we have all wanted to see since the very beginning of the series but the two of them kept missing each other and winding up paired up with other partners that they were not suited for. That has now been corrected, they kissed and their budding young romance is on its way. Bertha arranging for Gladys to be betrothed to the Duke was the coup de grace; it led to victory in the opera wars. It also secures the Russell family’s place in high society. It is the end of Bertha‘s quest for entry into, and acceptance by, the social elite. Ada’s inheriting money from her deceased husband solves the problem that we have seen coming for three episodes now when Oscar first fell victim to that financial scam. The Van Rijn household faced financial ruin and thanks to the brief romance and marriage between Ada and Luke, they have been rescued from indigence and obscurity. All of these developments tie off loose ends and bring to a close the suspense that had been building all season. Whether the romance between Larry and Marian works out, whether there is conflict arising out of Gladys being married off to British royalty, and whether there is a power struggle between Agnes and Ada are not open issues, they are not existing conflicts, and they are not unresolved problems. They constitute new storylines, not cliffhangers. I am not saying that I want it to end, but I believe that’s a wrap; the series has concluded. While I very much hope that I am mistaken (I adore the series), I will be shocked if there is a season three.
Well there is still the Johnstown Flood caused by the dam being lowered and it's structural integrity compromised because a bunch of rich guys building a summer hunting and fishing club there. And who could forget the Homestead Steel Mill strike with the rich owners basically hiring a private army of Pinkertons to murder striking workers rather than recognize demands for safe working conditions and decent pay. Maybe even throw in an anarchists attempt to murder Frick who proved more than capable of beating off the would be assassin.
Bravo to Julian Fellows! I love the writing. He keeps us in suspense always. Congrats to Ada and Marion. I'm just hoping Bertha did not sell Gladys off to that idiot Duke🤦🏼♀️ George will divorce her...cause he promised Gladys she could marry for love. And I love the fact that Agnes is now changing positions in the household arrangements. And I'm seriously rooting for Marion and Larry to marry. And I want to see Ben go into business with Larry and make a fortune. Yes, I love love the show
If the Vanderbilts are the inspiration for the Russells then it’s most likely Bertha did use Gladys as leverage to lure the Duke back to her camp. Consuelo Vanderbilt was one of the most famous Dollar Princesses. George won’t divorce Bertha but he’ll forbid the marriage unless Gladys wants it. Consuelo was known to have walked down the aisle in tears. I don’t want to see the show take that rout. I root for Bertha.
So disgusted with Bertha - I know Gladys is based on Consuelo, but I really wonder if George is going to allow it to happen in the end. Also Consuelo's mother wanted the marriage in order to be accepted in Great Britain, the opera war seems like a very little deal to make an offer of marriage. I do want to thank the writers for not making Dashiell an asshole and just focusing on how it just wouldn't work out because he clearly still loved his wife and that he would have to find true love in order to be happy.
I agree I get that Bertha is ambitious but there does have to be a point where she says that price is to high and I’m not going to pay it. If George ends up divorcing her and Gladys tells her I never want to see or speak to you again I won’t have any sympathy for her
If I hadn't watched the episode with my mom, I would've broken the sound barrier with my squeals throughout. Funnily enough, we got it backwards. We thought Mr. Borden was going to kiss Mrs. Bruce properly but I still loved the hand kiss, and we thought Larry was going to kiss Marian's hand but we were both happily wrong!!!
Yesterday an exec with HBO said it’s on the bubble. Get all your friends to watch the series and rewatch both seasons yourself. It’s all about ratings!
We all predicted either Aida would come into money from her late husband or Gladys would be matched with the Duke. But we didn’t predict BOTH things happening! This was a good episode!
I loved the acting in the scene with Bertha and Mrs. Morris! Mrs. Morris took jealousy to another higher degree! Her laughing at the matter of having to beg for mercy was so evil to her she couldn’t do anything but laugh at having to obey her husband’s command! Bertha’s response was so cruel and cold-hearted and justifiably equaled what her husband and the other aldermen tried to do to George. They were heartless and full of envy in their attempt to ruin him! Great scene!
I admit, I was hoping to see Agnes go to the poor house and take Armstrong with her, just for a little while until Marion married Larry. Glad Ada (and her dearly departed husband) stepped in to save the day. I am going to enjoy the power struggle and dynamics of Ada being the lady of the house which her sister owns but Ada is maintaining.
Considering the crucial issue surrounding the renewal of the big budget series is money, does anyone think if there is a Season 3 we might be looking at losing more than Mr Watson? IMO we’ve seen the last of T Fortune, Peggy’s parents, Dashiel and possibly even Oscar. I can see Ada helping him get a fresh start out of town, perhaps in Boston at the Company she’s just inherited. It’s conceivable we’ve Essen the last of Turner since Bertha had the last word in that situation and she’ll no doubt have enough tension in her own family to contend with.
Plus, she’s beautiful and will make beautiful children and grandchildren and she still comes from “Old New York.” With Ada’s fortune, Agnes will have time to rebuild her family’s wealth
The arranged marriage of duke and gladys is rooted in real life. Vanderbilt did same thing with their daughter she had horrible marriage and both divorce years later. They dold off daughters to get into British aristocracy with dowry’s to help crumbling castles and houses.
After Luke died, Agnes and Ada’s hug and tears were heartfelt! I cried for Ada. She probably regretted telling him it’s okay to go ahead and pass away because he didn’t waste any time going! I like that he passed away in his sleep and she woke up finding his body cold and he had passed over. Any other way would have been traumatic!
Last night episode was wonderful I'm glad that Ada was able to help her family. Even though her sister is a snob and extremely bossy. I hope that if there is a season 3, Marian gets together with Bertha son. 😊
The plot is following the historical story of Consuelo Vanderbilt, who was married off to the Duke of Marlborough. She too had another interest, but her mother locked her in her room for a month to keep her isolated. It was noted in the papers that she appeared very unhappy at her wedding. Indeed, one had a cartoon with her in chains at the altar with her mother holding the end. That marriage was very unhappy and the couple lived separate lives before having the marriage annulled. The Duke used the Vanderbilt money to repair and redecorate Blenheim Palace as we see it today. Being from the Philadelphia area, I was pleased to see that city's Academy of Music (1857) stand in for the old Met. It was clever how they gave the impression of boxes with anterooms as there is no such arrangement in Philly. Back in 1964, I actually sat in the first tier center box of the old Met for a student performance. The place was shabby at that point as the move to Lincoln Center was not far off.
Consuelo finally found love after she divorced the Duke. She married a French man who fell in love with her at her debut. They shared many happy years together. He did die before her, as did her second son by the Duke. Consuelo lived until the mid 20th century.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 she didn’t deserve a single win! She boldly seduced George!! No one wanted her to win a scene, except for the scene of being Mrs. Winterton! That was enough for me!
I need season 3 NOW💜. What I’d like to understand is why Bertha waved at Mr. Borden from her box at the opera. Does it have anything to do with her securing the Duke? I’m so invested💜💜
I think Ada will show Agnes grace & support, and not lord over her cuz she has the money to save the family. There will be head butts and we want them as their relationship is the most entertaining aspect of this show. Someone said that it was the reason why Mr Forte’s death came about so quickly: to keep them sisters under one roof & bicker!! The actresses are superb in their roles!!!!!!
Mr. Watson was responsible for the Duke dinner not being sabotaged. I would have liked to see him get credit from Mr. Russell before being written off.
It was soo good! It is one of those rare shows which season 2 is better than the first one ❤ I hope they will renew it for season 3 bc it would close the trilogy perfectly
I could see Bertha, turning into a real villain in season three; seeing how she clearly doesn’t care about her children’s happiness, but instead about her own status.
One thing you didn't mention was Oscar's situation. I was a bit afraid that he would be found dead from suicide before he could be told that the family's fortunes had been regained. His mother has been so witheringly hateful towards him, he's lost in his life and can't marry the man he loves. He has to live falsely. It would have been untenable for a lot of people.
I predict Marian will be Aunt Ada's heir. Marian is the daughter she never had. With that change in status, she will be welcomed by Larry's family. Besides, they're already very fond of her.
I think the show-runners wrote this season anticipating there would be a third… but when the renewal seemed in jeopardy, they fast forwarded all the storylines to the endgame they envisioned for the series. But that just means they can create whole new wonderful storylines when season three is green-lighted.
I agree with this. The script was rushed, especially towards the end due to finances. Historical pieces if done correctly are extremely expensive. Not just the costumes and the set pieces but they have to do a lot of CGI so that the environment looks close to that time.
Great series! It would never have worked this well without a good Agnes (too annoying or too stale). Christine Baranski is such a great actress, will watch anything with her in it 🙏🏼

Agnes could have probably married a
prosperous farmer or a shopkeeper.
But she didn't want to loose her family's
social status.
Larry is a great match for Marion! I’m so glad that they’re finally moving forward. I can’t wait to see the clock investment take off. Peggy was right to leave the paper. I want Marion to teach at one of the integrated schools.
Totally agree on all of those points!
Let's hope it gets a third!
3rd Season ----> YES !!!
Since the story line of Bertha Russel is following the Vanderbilt's, George will no doubt divorce Bertha for selling his daughter to the Duke.
You think Bertha will get the houses? Those are some nice houses 🏠
@@nicolekhorasani7019
What houses do you think that
would Bertha get?
I think Bertha would support Marian and Larry, especially because Marian was open and kind to the Russells from the beginning. She has also been very loyal and reliable to Bertha and the rest of the Russells through all the drama, which are qualities I think Bertha would admire. Knowing this show, I wouldn't be surprised if maybe she is hesitant at first, but I think she would at the very least come around to supporting the match.
That’s one thing Marian was loyal to the Russells from the START and wasn’t afraid to defend them amongst society ladies who look down on them. I feel like money wise would have Bertha skeptical at first but she would then see the bigger picture of Marian being a perfect match for Larry and her coming from
old money
Also Ada doesn't have children, so it's very likely that Marian and Oscar will inherit the company and money Ada got from Luke
What Bertha might not like is Marion's fascination with teaching i e middle class job.
She needs a socially ambitious daughter-in-law, like Regina Beauffort from the age of innocence. A girl from a noble but impoverished family. The dowry is not important, because at best it would amount to a couple of annual income of the Russells. The main thing is that the next Mrs.
Your predictions were SPOT ON!! I loved this season and I hope they renew the season!
Haha, thanks! Yeah I hope so too. The show gets a lot of love so let's just hope the network see that
I can not wait for season 3...Ada is now IN CHARGE!
Yes, a predictable ending but wonderful nevertheless. I am sincerely hoping for a Season 3.
Me too!
Season 3 has been confirmed!!
Here’s hoping there is a 3rd season.
@@hannaj4032
You misunderstood my comment, I didn't say that the series is supposed to last for only 2 seasons, just that it's not meant to be a very long series.
Yeah, the wedding would be a very nice final touch, and of course Peggy would be there too, Marian will obviously want to have her by her side.
Can I say, boy am I glad that Larrian blossomed AFTER Marian broke it off with Dashiell.
Same here! It was a rewarding moment - I feel we've all wanted that to happen for ages haha
Yes! And acknowledging them during her crowning moment openly, for all to notice, is very gracious and uplifting of her too ❤️
Was it predictable, perhaps, but in this time we're living in, a little good news for a change is welcomed!! I wanted to end on a positive note since we rollercoasted the earlier part of the season!😄👍👏👏
There better be a season 3 this show is the only reason why I continue to watch hbo max
Let's hope that there will be!
Agnes face when Bannister asked ADA if she "wished it" it was priceless!
Literally 😂
"But I still own this house!"" 🤣
It really does have a good story to go into season three. A wedding between Marion and Larry. ♥️
Definitely! Plus the friction that will be there with Gladys and The Duke!
Thank goodness Marian and Larry finally kissed. I laughed so hard when tables turned and Ada is now The Boss
Yeah Agnes' reaction was priceless!
The season isn’t long enough! I can’t get enough…I questioned how this could beat Downton Abbey but it does! LOVE IT!
If you’re an American that could be the reason. It’s more relatable. My favorite seasons of Downton were the last 3 when it got more modern.
Frenchie may also be secretly working for Turner/Mrs Winterton. Definitely not to be trusted.
I think the new French mais prob was planted there by the old maid…im forgetting her name right now lol the one who married the wealthy old guy. Wouldn’t be surprised if she hired her to be an insider at the Russell’s so she could keep tabs on Bertha 🤔 and so she can destroy her from the inside out but Mrs Russell is too smart for that to last long
Ooooh... how the shorts take notes! These are good plot twists!
Totally agree. There was some lingering looks there.
Don’t forget the kindness Agnes
showed to Armstrong.
This show DEFINITELY needs season 3
Let’s hope!
I just realized Oscar doesn’t know the family has been saved, I hope he hasn’t done something to himself!!
Oh yeah that's true!
I can’t wait to see Jack succeed with his clock empire!
I literally SCREAMEDDD when Larry and Marion kissed my ULTIMATE IT couple
Good move, Peggy! I didn't want you to be Mis(tress)Fortune. 👍🏻
Either did I. I think she could do so much more with her and her story.
He was such a predator and didn’t even care about Peggy, let alone his expecting wife (I think)
If the show continues to use the Vanderbilts as inspiration it is inevitable that Gladys becomes a Dollar Princess.
@@hannaj4032
I know.
I’ll themed? That’s what really happened in the era, if not this is really accurate depiction of the era and the society
With the Russells being similar to the Vanderbilts, it looks like Gladys may be following the path of Consuelo Vanderbilt
Agreed that the season was RUSHED but Gladys plotline follows the real life Consuelo Venderbilt's marriage 🤷♂
*It's based on real events, during the real Gilded Age. Lol*
@@edwardhoward347
Marian will be Ada's heir so no, she doesn't have exactly only $30. 😅😂😂
Agnes will object to the couple more than Bertha.
@@Amareehall101Bertha overlooks the Duke's poverty for his title. She will do the same for Marian due to her historical bloodline.
Thank you for this summary. Good show, good acting, good story line--my favorite show. In my opinion, definitely deserving of another season...with much more to come!👏🏾👏🏾
Glad you enjoyed it!
I hope they have a longer season next time. This one flew by
Yeah I hope so too! 10 episodes would be perfect
I love when Bertha Russell waves to Mrs Bruce and everyone turns around like who is this. Showed her soft side.
I loved Jack's clock story runner.
Yeah same here!
Great video! I love the Gilded Age and hope there will be a season three too!
I would have preferred Marion to call off the wedding well before. I would love to see her romantic arch with Larry.
Yeah it would be an interesting arc for sure!
But Gladys doesn't seem to want that life, and Bertha is doing it for status
Agreed
@@msfriendsfan4ever788 so called “tiger moms” today do the same thing pushing their kids into top schools and career paths and pushing them to date/marry certain people. Just saying you can understand the motive but yes she doesn’t seem to consider what Gladys wants at all.
The next season is for Gladys to grow some backbone 😂
She no doubt will, having two strong willed parents.
I loved this. It ended very Un Hbo Like and that was refreshing. Very good acting and excellent costumes.
Yes Larry kissed Marion finally❤
FINALLY!
Season 2 ended quite the same way as in Season 1 where Larry walks Marian to her house after the events' hosted by his family. I did hope he kissed Marian in S1 ending itself, as Larry was smitten by her at first sight. 🥰
But idk why I don't feel happy for them as I did for Mary and Mathew in Downton Abbey. Probably because their union is not as tragical as it was for Mary and Mathew.
No, I'm glad it didn't happen in season 1 because Marian was in love with her fiance and she didn't know Larry enough for that. Season 1 and 2 are perfect how they are.
That stoop got a lot of action.
Odd that these obscenely rich people who spend enormous money as gifts never spend a cent to assist old friends who suddenly lose all.
Why do that? If you’re referring to Mrs. Morris, they deserved their bitter end. As for the Fanes, George did help them, despite their heartless and ruthless plot to destroy him and his family without conscience!!
Peggy has morals & dignity 🥰😍🤩
Ummm Larry and Marian romance,
Ada being the boss of the house now and her navigating being in charge of her older sister, George and Larry finding out glady was basically sold away and them being at odds with Bertha.
There will be a season 3. 100%.
I hope so!
Yesterday an exec with HBO said it’s on the bubble. Get all your friends to watch the series and rewatch both seasons yourself. It’s all about ratings!
I wait two seasons for that cringe and cute kiss. And it was worth every minute ❤ i need season 3 immediately
“If a season 3 does get commissioned…”
(Cue Ada voice) What do you mean if? It will. It MUST!
Mrs.Russell is the best dressed actress in the all episodes.
I think they had to check the wind speed before she could go outside in the wing hat.
We all predicted either Aida would come into money from her late husband or Gladys would be matched with the Duke. But we didn’t predict BOTH things happening! This was a good episode!
True!
Fingers crossed for season 3!!
Let's hope so!
I absolutely love this show! Please create a season 3
It’s been renewed which is great!
Marrian and Larry give me Nate and Serena vibes.
This show needs a third season!!! I’m really enjoying it ❤
Same here!
I will miss the show so much since i know itll take years to produce the new season
That's even if it does get renewed!
Hopefully they can finally have some equality that way!
😂😂😂
I have watched the girl today for two seasons now and have loved every minute of it HBO needs to keep it going
I'm watching the Gilded Age because of the beautiful costumes 😍 🥰🤩
Officially renewed for season 3!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course, Bertha likes Marion. She isn’t a widow and she’s not old as dirt for that time.
Plus, she’s beautiful and will make beautiful children and grandchildren and she still comes from “Old New York.” With Ada’s fortune, Agnes will have time to rebuild her family’s wealth
Peggy's storyline is the token black story for today's Hollywood... half-hearted.
Predictions for sure!❤
The arranged marriage of duke and gladys is rooted in real life. Vanderbilt did same thing with their daughter she had horrible marriage and both divorce years later. They dold off daughters to get into British aristocracy with dowry’s to help crumbling castles and houses.
Interesting! Definitely an insight of what’s to come!
I would like to see Ada manage her own home
Yeah same! Well she's definitely going to be the one on top in the next season
@@BrainPilot I love how she is in Marions corner I look forward to her character development
😊😊please 🙏 renew show! I LOVE ❤this show.
I love this show!!!
I'd love to see the whole cast in old style portraits on black and white/sephia
That would look cool. They should have done that for the marketing of the show
Last night episode was wonderful
I'm glad that Ada was able to help her family. Even though her sister is a snob and extremely bossy. I hope that if there is a season 3, Marian gets together with Bertha son. 😊
I LIVE for Agnes's One liners!
Haha, they are great!
So Miss Turner /Mrs Winterton never won any battle the entire season. Directors really did her dirty
Yeah it did kinda feel like that rivalry just dwindled out which was a shame
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 she didn’t deserve a single win! She boldly seduced George!! No one wanted her to win a scene, except for the scene of being Mrs. Winterton! That was enough for me!
I need season 3 NOW💜. What I’d like to understand is why Bertha waved at Mr. Borden from her box at the opera. Does it have anything to do with her securing the Duke? I’m so invested💜💜
I really hope we get a season 3. Love this show!
That was the first best kiss ever! That kiss was was pure hearted
I honestly hope that the Russels will stay faithful to each other, I am so done with all the affairs everywhere.
Even the portraits of Bertha and Mrs. Astor were beautiful! Who is the artist?
I could see Bertha, turning into a real villain in season three; seeing how she clearly doesn’t care about her children’s happiness, but instead about her own status.
One thing you didn't mention was Oscar's situation. I was a bit afraid that he would be found dead from suicide before he could be told that the family's fortunes had been regained. His mother has been so witheringly hateful towards him, he's lost in his life and can't marry the man he loves. He has to live falsely. It would have been untenable for a lot of people.
My thoughts , too , they didn’t show him at all in the last 5 minutes , hope that he is ok 😩
Oscar may yet contract syphilis.
Probably still won’t be okay even with the new found fortune that won’t be his. Remember he said he needed a lot of money to live the life he wanted?
I predict Marian will be Aunt Ada's heir. Marian is the daughter she never had. With that change in status, she will be welcomed by Larry's family. Besides, they're already very fond of her.
A Cuban mom . Yes she was a Cuban mom
Christine Baranski is such a great actress, will watch anything with her in it 🙏🏼
PREDICTIBLE ENDING! But i still loved it 🎉 this is what happens when allá the actors play their role perfectly
show was renewed for a 3rd season like the day after this aired fabulous
What was up with Marian’s Opera House gown changing? Anyone else notice she had 2 different dresses?
