My name is binmar and I live in London. I basically belong to Eritrea which is a northeast African country on the Red Sea coast. I am 20 years old and a student of web development and designing at Haringey Enfield North East London College. The usage of the word ERITRA comes from the Greek word Eritros. Greek sailor used to mark on their navigation system (on paper) as Redish or Red coast from the seasonal rRed Algae on the surface. In French per say, they word Red is Rouge (ruj).
To answer your questions, the word ERITRA is was named by the Italians. The Italians referenced the Greek civilization and used the word Rosso from the Greek. Technically the old name of Red Sea was Eritrean Sea all the way to bab-el-Mendeb and Indian ocean.
