Such a cool vid man. Others have said it but honestly, off the race line or if you can’t help it just hold where you are. The people passing have the responsibility to make it clean and safe, as long as you do that. Keep crushing man!

Honestly really love these videos, Ive been cycling along for a bout a year, and moved to Belgium and decided to join a group ride and was dropped within the first 5KM, embarrassing. But it’s okay and happens, and I think it motivated me abit more.
Getting lapped in your first crit is tradition. I did a youth race but was undergeared because I didn't have an 52-16 So I had to ride 50-17 as I didn't have a 16 cog. Didn't hold me back too much because they weren't insanely fast but couldn't get the corners right and was at the back. 5 years later I'm a Cat 1 and racing UCI and national road race series.
This is really nice to see your experience starting in crits, I'm currently training to get faster and stronger and to hopefully compete one day. Thank you for offering insight on how entry-level racing is like in the crit world. Keep going hard and train smart, cheers!
Similar to my first experience. Some years ago i thought I was fit so I signed for a Cat 5 race (american). Crashed on the first lap, then got dropped about 20 minutes later after getting a free lap. Finished about 1 whole lap behind the pack. Couldn't believe this was how fast the lowest amateur division was riding. I didn't do another race that year. But i started training specifically for racing, and a year later, decided to try it again. Now I do structured training 10-12 hrs/wk for the last 2 years and it gets me usually in the top 25% of Cat 4/5 races here, with a few close calls of a podium but not quite yet. Keep at it, it's worth it.
Just a tip for when you approaching corners with the leaders behind you just stay on the outside of the corner and take a super wide line so they can still take parts of the racing line. Also well done for not giving up after lap 1 hope you get better and keep racing and maybe I'll see you at a race sometime.
Good job. Don’t be too worried about lapping. You had a tough time at 15:42 as I think all 3 of us were on diff laps and I just pulled myself out of the barrier😂. So long as you’re off the racing line mostly and there’s a clear way past don’t worry too much. You’re there to race as much as us
Think I'd last about 5 minutes. Massive respect for jumping into this and showing realistic side to racing. Want to get out of the bike after watching this!
Loved this - it was great insight to see someone inexperienced in racing and see what your experience was - I have never raced and know I would have had the same feelings as yourself 🤙🏻👍🏻
Keep doing great stuff mate, I love to see you more in UA-cam, since you are already crushing the tiktok and insta. I started making cycling videos just because get inspired by you and that alone doubled the joy I have from running and cycling! Fuck off mate😂
Seems like a really tough course tho mate, not that bad for a first time. Im also in my first season and only finished my first race in the peloton after 6 races… despite having probably better power numbers than guys finishing at the front/top 10. Its so much about knowing where to ride and on who’s wheel, how to corner and conserve energy that you dont have to push 1000 watts out of every corner to catch the guy in front. But as long as you keep enjoying it you will just improve over time
good intel, appreciate it. Yeah it was like a massive interval session, power, corner, power, corner etc. Sure confidence builds after a few races I imagine
I'm 15 and been riding for just shy of a year. Have been considering entering a crit race in cat 4 with british cycling. I guess there is an obvious answer to this question, but would you recommend trying out?
FTP about 270 last time I checked. I thought that too but the low avg power output will be down to spending a good amount of time off the pedals whilst cornering. Bloke who won the elite race averaged 280W for his race. I have Garmin Rally power pedals
Wouldn't be disheartened by the result mate. 80% of crit racing is positioning/racecraft and that only comes with experience. Everyone goes out hard, and if you can stay near the front over the first 5-10 mins you'll generally be alright for the rest of the race.
Congrats, Dan. Started watching you without the major sponsors and look at you now. You deserve it mate
Much appreciated
Really enjoyed this.
The honest , no nonsense, down to earth approach is refreshing. Keep it up!
'26 minutes'... 'FUCK OFF?!' 😂
was in disbelief
HAHAHA

thanks mate glad you like it 🤝
Nice one for putting yourself out there and big respect for the honesty in the video too. Bike looks mega. Enjoy.
Much appreciated
Love watching crits but would never have the guts to do it, hilarious commentary got me to subscribe to your channel. New bike is sick!

Dang I had the exact same experience in my first crit race a long time ago, it is truly eye opening as you said! Awesome video!
it's a right of passage. Thanks mate

Nice one Dan! I really fancy a go at crit races… think I need to a bit more training first though. Congrats on the new bike, looks lovely!
Great video and a great insight. I think I’ll be partaking in my first crit at the end of this month (all being well)
Best of luck mate

Brilliant Dan - big up Manchester and decathlon. Bike is sick

SRAM v Shimano is always a personal thing but I think you'll like Shimano (front mech shifts...)
yeah I'm sure both are great, will get used to whichever you use right
That van rysel on the tan walls is big chefs kiss
What a crqzy day out that was- well done for holding it together man
and you mate!

Massive congrats mate, would love to get involved also but not as fit as you. Hopefully next year
give yourself a few months! I've not been training 'properly' on the bike that long tbf.
Great stuff! 👍🏼 Inspired me to try find some local crit racing and get involved 🚴🏼♂️
Go for it, hope to do some more myself soon
should have tried fixed gear on this event. that would be great experience
Keep up the great work! Where is that pullover from btw?
cheers mate. From a Scottish brand called Kestin
So sick! Good job for the sponsor 🚴
thanks mate, so gassed with it

Love the d&b oh and the content 😂
I did the rapha Manchester 2 London this same weekend and a guy did it on a Brompton. He was also faster than me 😂
big day that, how was it? Them Brompton folk were razzing it round that circuit too 🤣

where do you get your running socks from dan??
Fantastic stuff, keep it up!
Thanks a lot
Some man for one man
appreciate that
Hi, what jacket have you got on please, I like, and I want, new to the channel great content 👊
Amazing video dude, selling my Brompton if you fancy it
Great video Dan, takes a couple but you’ll soon find your legs. Boring as it sounds, wouldn’t mind a plant review - that monstera looks elite/ cat 1.
cheers mate. Plant review coming soon 🤣
All been there bud
So glad I didn’t go in for the race, the VIA:Go was good enough for me 😂😂 track and crowed were ace. Solid effort though lad 🌶️🌶️
I should have done that too 🤣 that or the Brompton World Champs
@@Daaaanjj not a bad shout, I had Isaac chilling next to me asking how I’m feeling while lapping me for the 3rd time, humbling.

What's your FTP? Looked like a very low power output on your Strava, what power meter do you have?

What’s the new van rysel helemt saying ?
actually rate it, wasn't sure on it at first think it looks decent now and has all the MIPs technology etc that you want to see in your helmet
@@Daaaanjjcheers Dan - I’ll head down to Stockport and see if they’ve got any in stock
ah mate you are really making me want to cycle 😩
...give it a go. Good time to start in summer mate
Whats the tune at 8:00 ?
here is a tip if you want to achieve just being on the peleton of a crit race do an interval training im not judging im just saying❤
❤ deffo need that training
I’ve come to realise that you need to have a bit of a screw loose to races bikes, just sending it into corners at 45kmh with no regard for anything 😂
facts. It's not natural to be doing that unless you grow up doing it from a youngish age
Without an FTP of 3.5 W/kg, I don't think you can achieve anything in Cat C.
Brave man little man.
