  • This SANYO M9935K was sent to me from customer for the restoration. The body showed signs of wear from its age, cracks on its back, tuner needle was stuck, cassette deck did not work at all. Many challenges ahead, however, I really enjoyed restoring this old school boombox.
    The motor was broken, so I replaced it from another cassette deck. I needed to adjust motor speed, however, the voltage was way too high for this replacement motor. So I decided to use DC stepdown module to reduce the voltage.
    Enjoy my another challenge to restore the vintage boombox.
    NOTE: I wrote M3397K in the video, actually it was M9935K.

    had one of these back in 1985 bought it in New York , at the time the hip hop / high energy and rock sounds played on the radio sounded awesome through this unit. Laying in bed with it resting on your chest was the best way to listen . happy memories, wish i still had it .. if i remember rightly the handle broke at one end , the volume started to crackle , and it was chewing tapes .

    To Derec Coe, sorry I accidental erased your comment. Your original comment was "Speakers not worth an upgrade tho?", and my answer is it is worth to upgrade it. But I have a tendency to keep it original. For me, the original condition is the best.

    Excellent, as always Teddy. I'm presently restoring a 1976 Panasonic Music Center for a friend. They made those old ones to last, and be easy to work on. Alas, today's devices aren't so well made or easy !

      Hi, River. 1976 Panasonic Music center, I checked image on google, seems like good looking one. As you said, vintage one has a nice style and with proper care they last long.

    • @teddyhashee
      @teddyhashee  7 років тому

      I buy many different type of belt from ebay. The best one was round belt bought from Germany. Good luck to find good one for your cassette deck.

    • @riverhuntingdon6659
      @riverhuntingdon6659 7 років тому

      You'll find that the belts are the same as for a Philips EL3302, N2400,N2405, N2407 and other machines from Philips/Pye/Siera/Norelco that have the same arrangement of buttons. The EL3302 mechanics were adapted to a push-button design to make the machines easier to use. Some of the old Radiorecorders use the same mechanics too. Hope this helps. Try changing the pinch roller too, as the existing one is likely to have hardened over time, this can cause the machine to eat tapes. These, too, are available from Ebay.

    Old video, maybe you discovered this problem already with using DC/DC converters in old devices like this:
    1. Turn on radio and tune into AM or FM station
    2. Press (record and) play, to turn on the motor (and DC/DC converter used to power the motor)
    3. Listen what happen to the reception
    Oops. Better use a simple voltage regulator like the 7809 in case of a 9V motor and a 12V power supply. It isn't effcient but it doesn't interfere with radio signals.

  • @rahimkvayath

    well done, isnt it better repair The motor speed control circuit, than using converto ?

    • @teddyhashee

      Find the service manual for this boombox and probably you can find the diagram. But if you follow the pulleys, you will be able to figure it out how to set up the strings. I do most of the time.

    How did u remove the Knobs?

    • @teddyhashee
      @teddyhashee  6 років тому

      You just pull them out. If it's so hard to remove them, then you want to make small tool that will hook the edge of the knob and pull them out. I use paper clip ( bent back at an angle for catching the edge of the bottom ) to make my own tool. Some of the boombox video shows how to remove knob with this type of small tool.

      Remove cassette deck and clean it. It will work perfectly again. You might need to change the drive belt. Happy New Year!

    • @massivelegend2953
      @massivelegend2953 6 років тому

      Yeah i think the head is little dirty but the belts are brand new! and happy new year to you too! :)

    • @teddyhashee
      @teddyhashee  6 років тому

      If the belt is new, then you want to clean inside parts that contact cassette tape with lubing alcohol to remove sticky residue. That residue maybe the reason eating your tape. Also if your cassette deck needs more than 1 drive belt, sometimes that tension of the belt does not much for other, therefore, the speed and force difference between the take-up reel and supply reel will eat your tape too.

    • @massivelegend2953
      @massivelegend2953 6 років тому

      Thanks! i'm gonna try cleaning the head and if it dosen't work i'll just lisen to some radio! :)

    • @teddyhashee
      @teddyhashee  6 років тому

      Not only head but also pinch roller and capstan, all parts that tape film is touching, clean them completely probably that will be a good help for the deck. Sample image is here.
