    I just came across your video and faced palmer. LOL. I am in the middle of making a 12" x 12" x 1 1/2" bending jig for hooks and scrolls. I have hours invested in it, and your jig is easy and done in 30 minutes. Lol. I tilt my hat to you, Sir! Thank you for reminding me to keep it simple. 🙂

    I made one of these wire bending jigs today in about 3 hours as I had to mount and adjust the vise on my drill press. I bent some wire left over from some cattle panels that have very strong wire and it worked fine. Since your design uses a 1/2 inch square peg to use half inch drive sockets I thought about making a jig out of 3/8 inch round rod and square rod to use 3/8 drive sockets and perhaps make smaller hooks. Thanks much for the design as I can now use the jig to put hooks on wires with ease and I have about 80 hooks of these to make.

    Just writing to let Jeffrey know that I made myself one of these jigs for bending up brackets at work and with a little practice it works great. Thanks for showing us how to make this jig Jeffrey, it is so simple it is brilliant! Mark

    Thank you so much for making and sharing this video. I am not a blacksmith or welder but am going to (hopefully)use this to bend old silver plated forks and spoons to make bracelets. Love the concept of something that can be used for a variety of projects and sizes and does not require welding to complete. Again thank you very much, your talent and generosity are appreciated.

    Simply brilliant. I have a project where I need 24 s hooks but couldn't bring myself to pay $1.50/hook. THIS solves that problem and provides for future projects too. Versatile, simple, do-able...LOVE IT!!!

    Jeff, just letting you know - your simple design has solved 2 hurdles for some projects I've been working on. Great concept, so simple - I did to a great extent copy your design but made some minor changes which involved some welding... I incorporated a threaded rod into it which meant I can make attachments that either screw down or can be bolted on/off depending on requirements. Great video, thanks for sharing.

    Better late than never, however; I just watched your video on Bending Forks. I have a Jig that allows me to make S Hooks in two sizes, and it works fine. However; your jig provides 8 to ten sizes and is very easy to build. I have a Harbor Frieght Bender, but; I really don't use it much. With your creation, I can now use the dyes from the compact bender and expand my ability to create numerous sizes S Hooks. Thank you for sharing your Jig. 😊

    Great idea, I made my first hook yesterday but did not have anything to bend it with. I put two drifts that were same size in the vice and bent it. This is great because the bolt keeps it in place as you are setting it up. This will be my next tool. Thank you for the idea

    I like the idea, may I suggest a iteration? The socket slightly wobbles as it slides down over the 1/2” square stock. When you use larger sockets you can take a second socket and invert it upside down inside the original socket so that you have two sockets nested and two points to engage the 1/2” square, top and bottom. Great idea I’ll be building one too.

    Made these a week ago and I love them. A little tricky getting the hole drilled in the round stock, but I nudged the holes until I got them "almost" perfect. then ground all three pieces until they were equal in length. Very happy with it.

    Thank you Jeff for sharing. I've been searching for quite some time for a diy, simple jig for some scrolls I have to make soon. I'm an amatuer but I enjoy using my hands. Lately I been into metal work due to some much needed home repairs/renovations. The last jig I made, thanks to UA-cam, I had to bend some 5/8" steel which took me quite some time and effort as I also had to build a forge as well. Soon, my next project involves bending some 3/16" x 1" flats. Thankfully I won't be needing the forge but I have to say, THANK YOU for your vid. Because I not only would I not need a forge, but I also don't need to waste time on welding up a smaller jig. My scrolls are going to be about 4", but with your design, it should be a walk in the park. The only outside help I would need is getting the holes drilled at the machine shop. Definitely got to build a drill press, but that's for a later date. Again, thanks a million Jeff. I subscribed and will definitely be checking out your other vids.

    I too use a bender that's two angle irons, with a post welded to each one. Slide the angles around on the vise jaws to get your spacing. I'll make one with a square post though, to steal the idea of using the sockets for different diameters. Thanks.

  • @tasatort9778
    @tasatort9778 8 років тому +9

    I'm going out to make one in a minute; but since I have a welder I'm going to use a couple pieces of angle iron because it would make it easier to set up. I love the idea however; it's one of the things that drew me to blacksmithing was the problem-solving, and invention on the fly.

    Thank you SO MUCH for a very nicely done video. I have loved working steel since I was a small boy. My Dad taught me shop craft from diapers on up. You have a good designers head on your shoulders! I like it that you're utilizing HF dies. (the holes are 5/8") I had a local machine shop make
    3 1/2" - 6" dies for the compact bender. it cost me $138.00 for the set. I cut the rack off & moved it 90 degrees & made another rack just like it to hold the new dies. That might be something you would like to do. I believe I'll make mine for a 1/4" bolt, since its just to hold the line-up. thanks again.
