I just came across your video and faced palmer. LOL. I am in the middle of making a 12" x 12" x 1 1/2" bending jig for hooks and scrolls. I have hours invested in it, and your jig is easy and done in 30 minutes. Lol. I tilt my hat to you, Sir! Thank you for reminding me to keep it simple. 🙂
I made one of these wire bending jigs today in about 3 hours as I had to mount and adjust the vise on my drill press. I bent some wire left over from some cattle panels that have very strong wire and it worked fine. Since your design uses a 1/2 inch square peg to use half inch drive sockets I thought about making a jig out of 3/8 inch round rod and square rod to use 3/8 drive sockets and perhaps make smaller hooks. Thanks much for the design as I can now use the jig to put hooks on wires with ease and I have about 80 hooks of these to make.
Just writing to let Jeffrey know that I made myself one of these jigs for bending up brackets at work and with a little practice it works great. Thanks for showing us how to make this jig Jeffrey, it is so simple it is brilliant! Mark
Thank you so much for making and sharing this video. I am not a blacksmith or welder but am going to (hopefully)use this to bend old silver plated forks and spoons to make bracelets. Love the concept of something that can be used for a variety of projects and sizes and does not require welding to complete. Again thank you very much, your talent and generosity are appreciated.
Simply brilliant. I have a project where I need 24 s hooks but couldn't bring myself to pay $1.50/hook. THIS solves that problem and provides for future projects too. Versatile, simple, do-able...LOVE IT!!! Thanks for sharing the solution
WOW...I am now HOOKED...Yes the pun was intended. I subscribed and look forward to learning MORE. I truly learn something new every day. Thanks for your work. Hap Smith Jr. Bladesmith @ Smith Forge U.S.Marine (retired)
Thank you for sharing, I’m just starting blacksmithing and I have 8 shutters on one side of my 10x10 shop. Now I can concentrate on the other end of the hinge. Thanks again!
Almost didn't watch this, not another bending jig. I'm sure glad I did, great new take on it. I especially like being able to use my HF bender dies on it. Tkxxxxxxxx Jeff.
Jeff, just letting you know - your simple design has solved 2 hurdles for some projects I've been working on. Great concept, so simple - I did to a great extent copy your design but made some minor changes which involved some welding... I incorporated a threaded rod into it which meant I can make attachments that either screw down or can be bolted on/off depending on requirements. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Better late than never, however; I just watched your video on Bending Forks. I have a Jig that allows me to make S Hooks in two sizes, and it works fine. However; your jig provides 8 to ten sizes and is very easy to build. I have a Harbor Frieght Bender, but; I really don't use it much. With your creation, I can now use the dyes from the compact bender and expand my ability to create numerous sizes S Hooks. Thank you for sharing your Jig. 😊
Thank you! I've been looking for a practical diy rod bending jig for days. This is by far the most clever. Simple and effective. Not to mention ultra cheap. Bravo!
Great idea, I made my first hook yesterday but did not have anything to bend it with. I put two drifts that were same size in the vice and bent it. This is great because the bolt keeps it in place as you are setting it up. This will be my next tool. Thank you for the idea
Absolutely love it. Have been looking for a way to build an affordable jig to bend 1/8 inch flat steel bar into circles. Now I nknow somewhat what to do that wont leave hard bending lines fron my bench vise. Thank you so much for posting this video.
I like the idea, may I suggest a iteration? The socket slightly wobbles as it slides down over the 1/2” square stock. When you use larger sockets you can take a second socket and invert it upside down inside the original socket so that you have two sockets nested and two points to engage the 1/2” square, top and bottom. Great idea I’ll be building one too.
Made these a week ago and I love them. A little tricky getting the hole drilled in the round stock, but I nudged the holes until I got them "almost" perfect. then ground all three pieces until they were equal in length. Very happy with it.
This is great, what a concept. Your style is exceptional, especially how you challenged yourself making this system without welding and then the bonus of being under $10. Besides being a smithy You truly are a craftsmen.
Thank you Jeff for sharing. I've been searching for quite some time for a diy, simple jig for some scrolls I have to make soon. I'm an amatuer but I enjoy using my hands. Lately I been into metal work due to some much needed home repairs/renovations. The last jig I made, thanks to UA-cam, I had to bend some 5/8" steel which took me quite some time and effort as I also had to build a forge as well. Soon, my next project involves bending some 3/16" x 1" flats. Thankfully I won't be needing the forge but I have to say, THANK YOU for your vid. Because I not only would I not need a forge, but I also don't need to waste time on welding up a smaller jig. My scrolls are going to be about 4", but with your design, it should be a walk in the park. The only outside help I would need is getting the holes drilled at the machine shop. Definitely got to build a drill press, but that's for a later date. Again, thanks a million Jeff. I subscribed and will definitely be checking out your other vids.
Fricking genius man! This was exactly what I needed. Just knocked one together in the shop right after seeing your video. And it's working great! Already did a simple project with it to test it. Could not be happier! Thanks a bunch! I'm going to be making a video of me making one, or at least using it and I'll be sure to link back to your video!
Great idea - simple and versatile. I will for sure make one. Looks easy enough, and I made a jig for my drill press that allows me to drill holes in round stock that are centered. Thanks for sharing.
This is INGENIOUS! Thanks very much for the fantastic idea! One small criticism - I agree with others that it would be nice to see the jig in action. But this is easy enough to knock out fairly quickly, and is great for those of us starting out who don't have access to a welder just yet. Thanks very much!
Wow, didn't realize just how this one would go after watching the one you posted today. This is so simple to follow and understand how it is going to work, I really feel sorry for the stupidity of the individual you were referring to in today's video. I am completely enjoying your videos (not sure when I will get all of them watched since I got started late in learning blacksmithing) and I wish to thank you (and Chandler since I also watch him) for all the inspiration and positive influence you have for this craft.
I too use a bender that's two angle irons, with a post welded to each one. Slide the angles around on the vise jaws to get your spacing. I'll make one with a square post though, to steal the idea of using the sockets for different diameters. Thanks.
I'm going out to make one in a minute; but since I have a welder I'm going to use a couple pieces of angle iron because it would make it easier to set up. I love the idea however; it's one of the things that drew me to blacksmithing was the problem-solving, and invention on the fly.
you prolly dont give a damn but does someone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I would love any help you can offer me
@Kendall Arian I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im in the hacking process now. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thank you SO MUCH for a very nicely done video. I have loved working steel since I was a small boy. My Dad taught me shop craft from diapers on up. You have a good designers head on your shoulders! I like it that you're utilizing HF dies. (the holes are 5/8") I had a local machine shop make 3 1/2" - 6" dies for the compact bender. it cost me $138.00 for the set. I cut the rack off & moved it 90 degrees & made another rack just like it to hold the new dies. That might be something you would like to do. I believe I'll make mine for a 1/4" bolt, since its just to hold the line-up. thanks again.
Great jig I will be making one to use for making hooks out of horseshoe nails how can I make s hooks with out a forge do I need to make a different jig for this any help would be appreciate thank again I love the jig you made
I was in Haiti pouring a roof for orphanage. they need this for bending regarding. they currently use nails. I can send you a pic of their bender. Great job and thinking out of the box.
Don't understand how anyone could not like this idea. Well done.
WOW what a great idea! Thanks Jeff for sharing...UA-cam is not only to get ideas but also to make friends...
That is the best simplest jig ever made. I can make this. Thank you for showing this. Awesome.
Awesome. Nice gift idea too for annual meets with others in the craft.

Brilliant jig. So simple and so effective. I used your socket idea when building my more traditional bending jig.
Great idea. Simple and effective. Knocked one up in ten minute from stuff in the bits bin. I works like a charm. Thanks for sharing.
Of all the videos I’ve watched on making homemade tools, I think this on is the best. Thanks for sharing.
Muchas gracias! Magnifico!!! Lo voy a hacer!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼😄😃😃😃😃👍🏼
very cool. thanks for sharing Jeffery

This idea is genius! Thank you for this video!
Excellent idea, 1 adjustable jig for everything!
Never stop learning. Amazing idea. I had no intention of making S hooks but now I might give it a try. First the old fashioned way and then your way.
This is great, what a concept. Your style is exceptional, especially how you challenged yourself making this system without welding and then the bonus of being under $10. Besides being a smithy You truly are a craftsmen.
This is genius problem solving! Will definitely be making one of these, Thank you for sharing!
Very simple but clever. the best kind. Thank you
