      Luc Préfontaine it depends how you practice it.If you do stances incorrectly and without proper warmup its obvious that you will get injuried.I practice karate for 10 years and im european vice champion in kumite so i have credibility to say that shotokan is one of best styles maybe the best

      @Luc Préfontaine all sports are bad when you're old

    • @karljans4807
      @karljans4807 5 років тому +1

      @Luc Préfontaine shotokan is a martial art with a subcategory of sport. So basically, you train for self defense (it's not that damaging for your body because you don't do unnecessary kicks)

    • @karljans4807
      @karljans4807 5 років тому +1

      @Luc Préfontaine I agree on that. I prefer Okinawa styled too. I did goju Ryu but because I moved to another city I couldn't practice it anymore. Shotokan is idd more damaging than goju but still not that much if you practise correctly

    • @karljans4807
      @karljans4807 5 років тому

      @Luc Préfontaine I'm not planning to do shotokan for that long. In fact. When I move alone, and I have a car I will continue my goju Ryu or an other Okinawa karate style. Shotokan is temporarily.
      And I've tried a dojo hakkoryu jiu jutsu. It's very different. I like it

      Tae kwon do is not kicking anymore, it is barely feet poking... Unfortunately most schools are competition oriented and this ruined many martial arts, which bended them from the concept of life and death to the one of a point match.... Fighting is much more gruesome and most people focus on exercises which are very far from practical but give them a sense of beautiful accomplishment.

      Looks like specific zuki-oriented Kumite training for sports Karate to me. In sports Karate fights (kumite) a point upon hit is only awarded if accompanied by a kiai (scream). That's why they scream while punching each other, mostly to drill for competition. Most of the training shown is specifically geared towards speed in their punches (zuki). Hope that helps in understanding what is shown here!

    Me gusta el Shotokan. Pero el entrenamiento deja mucho que desear. Mucho puño al aire. Faltan ejercicios con bolsa, escudos de potencia, foco. Falta endurecimiento como en los estilos de Okinawa. Y las técnicas de piernas ?? Falta adaptar o modernizar las técnicas de desplazamientos. Hay que abandonar la rigidez postural. Es absurdo permanecer en posiciones tan bajas y largas. Se debe alternar más con posiciones más naturales. Etc, etc. Pero es un gran estilo. Lo único que no tocaría son los katas. Ellos deben permanecer inalterables como testigos de la evolución del estilo. Y como acervo cultural-técnico.
