The Pre-fader/Post-fader switch works IN RELATION to the Channel fader. So, if the lead vocal is going out of the channel fader to the main output, and the Aux feed is set to Pre fader, then if that channel fader is turned down to the main mix, the Aux feed is STILL getting the same amount of signal going to the Aux output. If the Aux feed is set to Post fader, and the lead vocal channel is turned down in the main mix, the level of the vocal going to the Aux output will be reduced. Pre-fader is "usually" used for monitor mix sends, and Post-fader is mainly used for effects sends like reverb, delay, etc. The talent doesn't want to hear a change in their monitor mix if the engineer decides that the lead vocal is too loud out in the house. But, if that Aux that is used to send signals to a reverb unit, you will most likely want the amount of signal sent to the reverb to follow the channel fader setting. If that Aux is coming off the channel Pre-fader, the balance of the reverb will not change as you balance the vocal leading to more reverb in the house because the same amount of signal is being sent.
I got a friend that has this board and I have a conundrum with it. If you do prefader, the ON/OFF for the master LR channel does not mute/unmute the aux for that channel, it can only be done in post-fader whcih they don't want (Aux in this case is sends to a stream they do). I got an X32 and got channels going to aux with prefader and the ON/OFF DOES correspond to the channel with aux. Seems like I am either missing something or the pre fader on these Yamaha boards are backwards to where the ON/OFF switch is in line to the signal chain.
I've probably watched 15 videos on this mixer and as a beginner this video has made the most sense. Thanks for sharing

how do you connect a talkback for IEMs on this mixer in such a way that it doesnt affect the MAIN MIX?
