PF TEK - Introduction, Making BRF Cakes.

- This is part one of a three part series about PF TEK.
This video will be a brief introduction to what pf tek is and how to prepare brown rice flour cakes as substrate for mushroom cultivation.
This video will not cover inoculation, colonization, spawning/fruiting or harvesting. Those parts will
be covered in part 2 and 3.
For inoculation it's recommended to at least use a still air box, they are extremely easy to make, A simple UA-cam search "how to make a still air box"
will get you plenty of examples of how to make one.
if you can flip a clear plastic storage container over you can basically make a still air box. So, if you don't already have a fan Filter Unit or a flow hood you will need a clear plastic storage container that you can see through at least 70 quarts in size or bigger.
When we make it to spawning/Fruiting you will need another clear storage container about the same size that we are going to make a shot gun fruiting chamber with. You will also need a drill or something you can make small holes, 1/4 inch in the fruiting chamber.
I'm also going to spawn some of the brf cakes to shoeboxes to demonstrate that process as well, so the plan is to teach two separate fruiting methods.
Ingredients/Recipe/Supplies:
1 cup Brown Rice Flour/Brown rice
1 cup Tap Water
2 cups Fine Grade Vermiculite
Five 1/2 Pint wide mouth mason jars.
(There are two kinds, tall skinny, short fat, both are
fine as long as they are wide mouth)
Nail or drill bit for making 4 syringe 💉 size holes
in the jar lids.
Aluminum Foil
Coffee Grinder(if you want to make your own brown
rice flour) it's optional if you just buy brown rice flour
instead of brown rice.

Thank you Ed! 🍄❤️ I've been wanting to do it for a while, I'm gonna do a sgfc with perlite and I'm gonna try a sgfc with the diaper tek and see how they compare to each other as well as try to spawn some brf to bulk. I might do a separate video for the diaper tek though just so it doesn't confuse people. Really interested to see how it does in a tent 🍄❤️

I’m trying this! So it’s only brown rice that’s ground up to flour and vermiculite?
Yea you just grind up a cup of brown rice into flour. Super easy. Hydrate the vermiculite, then add the flour to it, mix it up, jar it up to the first line of the neck of the jar, slap some vermiculite in it, enough to fill it the rest of the way and steam sterilize it. No need for a pc

Yea I always wondered about it my self. I didn't know it was advertised in high times way back in the 90s until now either. It really is an underrated tek, hoping I can do it justice with this series. 🍄❤️
@depraved420 I was born in 83 so I'm definitely familiar with the shroom advertisements in high times 🤣😂🤣. I was always afraid it was just a scam. And information was WAY!! more scarce on Netscape, signing into AOL after my mother went to bed and no one needed to use the phone 😄
@@depraved420 I never knew it was advertised in HT either. They used to have ads for pseudo, red phos, and iodine. Pretty sure it was just the Feds phishing for wannabe cooks like me. LOL I wonder if that is what ended-up getting him in trouble?
@@edwardgrand yea I searched for a while, I was just trying to find a pic of it but it was an advertisement in a 1991 issue of high times. I tried looking through high times old issues on there website and couldn't find it. It appears to be some internet lore. 🧐

It was one of the first methods I saw when I first thought about growing mushrooms. The way it was explained was over complicated and I ended up trying uncle ben Tek and broke boi Tek at the same time for my first grow. If you get the sgfc dialed in those cakes can make some amazing flushes. 🍄❤️
@@depraved420 I made my first Uncle Bens cakes from a Rookie Mycologist video right at a year ago!
@@SPORE_SPORTS yea the uncle bens stalled out and the broke boi Tek worked so I went with that until I got an instant pot. Uncle Ben's seems to work for alot of people, I just prefer making my own spawn. 🍄❤️
Yes I'm a student of the game I've moved on to trying multiple kinds of grains have a large pressure cooker tried making my own Spore prints stuff like that I'm learning as I go
