I don't think it's about sidechicks. It's about keeping their girlfriend on the low away from the public eye so they appear "single" its about needing to appear 'single' for the fans. When you're in a boyband most managers force the guys in the group to stay single because being single is a selling point for them. It helps them look available to the fangirls that want them. Hence them saying "if you're my honey then it's only for a moment cause another 100 want it"
