Aidan got to leave Carrie this time - and good for him too. Without being married to her, he had his life, he had children - had he been married to her - she would've always thought that Big was the big love she missed out on- just as she know thinks it is Aidan. She is just unbelievably selfish - for a character to not develop so much in this one flaw across so many years is rather outstanding. But maybe the writers wanted that to be her core trait.
I don't think Carrie, deserved another chance with Aidan. She did him dirty twice.
