The only things Super7 are great at these days are producing renders that are better than the actual releases and making sure we get 5 extra pair of hands to justify their high prices.
I'm REALLY sad to see that the upcoming, green-metallic Metalhead figure has the WRONG color accessories, even in the preorder images! Like... come on now...
I think it's a totally fair review, and I agree that Super7's "increased prices matched with inconsistent quality" has been an issue with many of their lines, not just TMNT. They make beautiful looking figures, but the quality control issues and the fact that so many are loose and don't stand well has really put me off on pre-ordering or actually being excited about their finished products.
Appreciate the shoutout even if it was for that botched Leo I got. For the record Brian Flynn did reach out and replaced it for me. 2nd Leo was far better and the second head sculpt was different than the first when it came to paint apps under the head. It fit on far better.
Your opinion is 100%. Wave 5 was what made me also stop with preorders. Leo, krand, and Leatherhead have wobbly legs and undercover raph too, and the prices don't help either
Completely agree, paying $55 for Ultimates figures just doesn't make sense with all the QC issues and loose joints. I just recently snagged this wave on eBay new for around $40 each shipped. I think that's the price they should be at.
I find it so disappointing that they removed all of the paint from Raphael's accessories, since the detail shown in the pre order images is what everyone expected to get when the figure eventually released.
Glad to hear someone give an honest review instead of gushing over every figure and looking past or explaining away the imperfections. I collect the Super7 Ultimate line, but I am getting worn out with them all. Not sure if I will get the Wave 9. Anyway...great video
I somewhat agree with your opinion. I can’t really afford the ultimates figures because I am a young collector but now it seems like most of the figures now are variants of the turtles which is what most of the vintage like was but it would be cool to see half court or even a scale tail.
Absolutely. I stopped earlier and decided to only keep the OG 10. Unlike MOTU Classics, I just don’t see a big enough difference between the Ultimate’s and the vintage besides size and paint apps. For others that might be ok, but for me, I need something more.
I'm sorry, but why does that April figure look atrocious? That's the Ultimates version? Seeing the renders of it vs what I'm seeing in this video leads me to believe the QC drop happened long before Wave 5.
I stopped at wave 4 for a few reasons. 1. I didn’t feel like I was getting the value anymore with the price increases and quality. 2. There is a lot going on with TMNT right now and I feel the better line is NECA. 3. The aftermarket price is a big deal bc the figures retail price is so expensive so if I can save anywhere from $5 to $15 a fig, I’m going to do so. Great vid and love the channel!
I agree. Most of my Super7 figures have come after the initial release. There are too many questions about quality and price that keep me from wanting to preorder- even sadly with Leatherhead who was one of my favorite baddies as a kid.
I couldn't agree more, the quality has decreased while the price keeps climbing. I don't think I will be doing pre orders anymore either I'll pick just the figures I truly want if they look goo once they hit my local stores.
I’ve been up in the air on buying the TMNT Ultimates (so many reasons). You make a great point on Ray Fillet with his body being painted and not cast in the color. That was an issue I had with my first wave of MOTU figures from Super 7. A figure had his accessories painted and not casted in the color, and of course paint chipping occurred.
I only have the 4 Turtles but for me the poor/lack of articulation is disappointing for the price point. They do look great for a scaled up re-creation but quality of plastic and minimal paint on top of basic movement, feels like they should be priced closer to $30/35.
It's a shame there are so many problems. The figures look nice, but Super7 needs more follow-through to make sure the figures really are nice. Remember, customers don't have to buy these, andcustomers' money is VERY valuable to the customers. Treat customers with respect by ensuring high quality products. Don't be like Hasbro.

This wave killed my collecting too. My Krang wouldn't stand at all, and my Ray had a huge seam across the shoulders. I simultaneously got the other wave with Ace Duck, whose wings and tail feathers being awfully engineered totally killed it for me. Plus Slash's color already being entirely wrong...
What got me into the TMNT Ultimates figures is the random chance that I picked up the flocked version of Splinter. I like the fuzzy texture it has and it gave the figure more detail. Naturally, since getting Splinter, I recently purchased all four turtles from the line. I have an idea for a display in mind. Upon discovering the mutagen glow versions of the turtles, I think I may pick those up as well. Hearing about the QC issues that the TMNT Ultimates have, it reminds me a lot of the Power Rangers Lightning Collection line and the QC issues that Hasbro has with that. I just hope I don't run into those issues here.
I agree Jay, I’ve yet to receive some of these but I have been cherry picking. The quality on Ultimate figures whether they are TMNT or TCats is inconsistent and the prices are going up. S7 should shift the focus to better QC, less accessories (especially hands) and less snazzy packaging.
Yeah completely agree on all fronts, I could care less about the packaging and hands and would much prefer whatever cost and energy they put into that, to be put on making the figures better.
I like your review on super7, you are the example of” all that shines is not gold” my only take would be if you can score them on sale, then it’s totally worth it, specially if it’s being modeled from an original toy that is way too expensive to acquire.
I personally like Super 7 and your channel! It’s does concern me that the Ultimates are heavily discounted at Entertainment Earth. Maybe it’s an Entertainment Earth business issue with discounting their Ultimates so heavily. I would recommend having Brian Flynn on your show to share your concerns. He’s always willing to answer questions and seems willing to talk about the business which very few companies actually are willing to do. Based on past interviews, it appears that they transitioning to having their toys made in Vietnam now rather than China which may be part of the delay with their Ultimates. A conversation would clear up much of these concerns.
I agree with everything you said, Jay. I cancelled my pre-orders for the GI Joe Ultimates. I can't justify paying $55 for so-so QC. I'll wait til the figures along with TMNT are marked down on Amazon or Entertainment Earth.
As someone else mentioned here. Unless they change things up, they’re going to go under. I won’t name my store here, but I went from spending well over 100k a year with them to now all but nothing. As you mentioned, there is practically ZERO secondary market for these things due to the countless runs and endless lines that they attempt to support. I can’t even get retail prices for these. I won’t repeat the other points that you made, but they are all valid. It’s not good fellas.
The prices may make me start picking and choosing. But if I can afford it I will probably keep getting these in waves. I have started seeking out sources like BBTS so that I don't pay until it arrives. The funny thing is I wasn't big on most of the variants as a kid. The few I had were mostly gifts. I only wanted charaters from the show. Now as an adult I appreciate how fun and off the wall they are. That said my most recent two waves are still boxed. So Maybe I will feel different after opening them.
I feel you about these have lost luster. 2 years ago I scrambled hunting wave 1 & 2. Successfully! Only for them to be re released. I’m happy though because these were figures no one should miss on & pay triple rates. But decrease quality & increase of price ,combined with value drop days after release… I’ll just pick my faves & wait for the price drop I’m willing to pay. Like just now I got samurai leo for $38. His 3rd time I seen him on sale. I feel this wave will drop more but I was really wanting leo, despite his dull gold. & he’ll be here by Xmas. $44 should be their price not $54
Good, honest review of these products. When Super7 started Ultimates, I was there cheering them on 100%. They had awesome licenses and what appeared to be some really great ideas. Sadly, there have been far too many QC issues and the prices are getting ridiculous. I am particularly disappointed with how the SilverHawks are looking. They do not live up to the renders. This seems to be the trend with S7 releases these days. Some of their stuff still comes out good but customers have to take a big chance with pre-orders. My new policy is no S7 pre-orders at all. I will wait to see the finished figures in customers hands, check out some reviews, then decide if I actually want to hand over the money.
The only thing wrong with this is video is the disclaimer at the end for people don't understand math and self control. There's nothing wrong with going to eBay and paying triple for something you want (no one's forcing you to do that so it's your problem) and I don't know how anyone could infer there's something wrong with giving your money to someone trying to unload their figures. Newsflash people: That person is more than likely losing half of their money on that sale, especially if their selling Super7 figures. Bottom line? Super7's not getting the job done and the collector has made it clear that $55 is not going to cut it. Thank you for this video. The Power Rangers and Simpsons figures just came out and everyone who got samples is just drooling over them instead of offering fair analysis.
We were definitely suckers for getting into this line, weren’t we? Super7, you had such an opportunity to corner this market but your greed made you crash and burn. Will you learn? Doubtful.
It was a difficult decision, but I decided to cancel my Leo from BBTS after seeing the reviews. If it were just the loose hips or muted gold paint, I might not have, but I couldn't justify full price for those. I have heard that Sewer Surfin Mikey is better, but I haven't gotten mine yet.
super 7 has spread itself too thin. Too many properties and no care goes into QC. Brian at super 7 lives in SF which has the highest cost of living. so for him to make buck and pay his staff to live in SF they must over charge and under deliver. Churning out wave after wave.
Wave 6 is better. They fixed the hips and Scratch and Slash are easily the best sculpts yet- but I’ll wait to get any more until the prices drop significantly.
Yep, as great as Super7’s sculpts looked and the idea is such a cool concept - there are just far too many QC issues and higher price point to justify jumping in. Yeah, you may like the Playmates look of the Ultimates line over what NECA is doing … but NECA is at a fair jumping in point and their quality control doesn’t feel as negligent as Super7. Definitely tried to warn ya on your Super7 vs NECA video lol
love the channel. Totally understand your reasoning. Still feels like you're being a bit dramatic. I used Kiki Fix Loose joints on mine and they are perfect now, articulation wise.
But what’s the effects of that long term on the figure? How does that react to the plastic and paint over time? It would be one thing if it was one off, but it’s happening more and more. I’d like for them to improve these issues instead of charging us more and relying on us to fix them
@@GeekDadLife Dude I'm living in the now and strongly suggest you do the same. Tomorrow is no guarantee. I would extend that to being concerned about secondary value on your figures. Buy stuff that you'll be happy being stuck with.
I have a Scratch figure on the way from Big Bad Toy store as the first and possibly the only figure in the line I get. The high price point kept me away (here in Canada) stores like my Local Comic Shop charge $95 Canadian for one now. I only got Scratch as I always wanted one of the originals but now that they are thousands of dollars I can’t spend that on a toy. Some reviews were saying wave 6 finally got the loose joints right so I hope that is the case with mine.
Me too. I was all-in on TMNT Ultimates, but I've cancelled my preorders and am thinking about dumping the early waves I already have. The prices of all toys are increasing, so I'm having to get choosier. And when these are $55 or more and the quality level is dropping. . . sorry TMNT Ultimates, I'm out.
My Sewer Samurai Leo showed up with the wobbliest legs of any S7 figure I've gotten, the alternate head doesn't stay on (hole too big for peg), and the sword scabbard was glued incorrectly and bent/broken in box. I contacted BBTS and they gave me a full refund, and after seeing the video I sent of the figure, they didn't even want it returned. So frustrated for what would have been an Ultimate of my favorite Turtle figure growing up...doesn't exactly fill me with hope for the MMPR line, which I had been looking forward to picking up Zords from, but can already imagine the loose hips on...
Great video. But the title is vague enough to be misleading as you plan to keep adding figures to your collection. You're only done pre-ordering full waves. A pet peeve of mine is seeing so many collectors saying "I'm done" (with this or other lines), only to see them not being done at all.
That's fair, I think my point is I'm done buying waves, but if I can find a cheap secondary market one, that doesn't have QC issues I may pick them up. But thats a lot of maybe's and if's and buts lol
S7 might as well hang out up now. They can't keep up with what they are showing buyers. Things are always in the factory on a boat or being checked. Playmates need to do their figures again but with added articulation and paint like motu. S7 so focused on disney they said f Everton. Everything else.
I am still all in on these figures… are they perfect heck no, but the looseness or balance I can fix. Plus I am not into posing and photography of my figures I just place them in my display. Are they more expensive yes, but I also buy Mafex and Mezco and those are more expensive so these seem like a deal to me.
Leatherhead and Ray Fillet look great! In UK, I've only seen waves 1-4 . Wish they would stick to core characters, they started doing all these variants too early
I’m done preordering anything from Super7. The cheetara head sculpt was really a huge let down and the pictures of the upcoming Silverhawks figures doesn’t help build confidence in their final products either.
@ 0:29 you say how the scalper prices make the $40.00 price seem like a value but not even 15 seconds like later contradict yourself and say how THEY don't hold the value And seem to sell around $25.00 . Which is it ? Do you justify the price and then have buyers remorse for the price !?
I believe what I said was at first the secondary market price was higher for the first wave or at least held its value. then in subsequent waves the secondary market price is much cheaper than retail. Which of your preordering and paying full price, that seems a bit foolish
Saludos 🇲🇽🤙🏾
All in all. I am fine as it is now. If they decide to just abort the toy line, im fine. I got my badboys Rocksteady, Bebop and Slash and a few more. I will continue with pick and wreck if they doesnt abort the line.
I have gotten the 1990 figs and they're incredible. The toon style isn'e for me, but its hard to argue against that point. It's such a huge line with a great variety of characters. They've done a great job with the license.
That Raph with the trench coat looks great. Seems to have better tailoring compared to the Neca one. I'll get that if they plan to release the other 3 with trench coats
McFarlane Super Powers quality is why I returned everything to Walmart and stopped collecting the line. Capes were horrible, among other gripes. I hope Both Super7 and McFarlane improve….they have some cool looking stuff!
I'm in the same boat, have been on the waiting game for these but I found Wave 6 (minus the Mousers) for $100... I couldn't resist. Wave 6 so far I haven't had any quality issues other than Slash's weapon tree being broken.
@@GeekDadLife It was crazy, it had about a minute left on eBay and with it priced so low I really couldn't say no. But no loose legs and I haven't noticed any sloppy paint yet. My only complaint is I struggled with Ace Duck's wings just like Mad Hatter.
Good review if the experience you have had though I don’t agree with it. Maybe I am lucky with my waves 1-6 figures cause I haven’t had any wobbly joints problems. Wish I can post pictures cause all my figures stand up perfectly and can pose them in different variations and not have any issues. I don’t know, I haven’t had your experience with the figures. I do agree with the increase in prices is becoming irritating. However the price of scumbug is interesting, it’s listed as 65.99 on S7’s site but 54.99 on entertainment earth. Clearly pricing inconsistencies are going on.
I've boycotted Super7 years ago. I simply don't like their business model nor their high prices considering their fluctuating QC issues and time releases. Inconsistent lineups and money grab practices will keep me away for good with no regrets.
I've been picking up most of the TMNT Ultimates new on ebay for $10-$20 cheaper than the retail price. Only cherry picking my faves. I'm waiting on Triceraton, Usagi and Fugitoid then I'll be done (unless they give us an Armaggon).
Given they released most of the characters people wanted right in the first four waves, I don't think the line has a lot of time left. I mean I would love a Hothead, Groundchuck, Dirtbag, Mona Lisa, and Rat King, but if it doesn't happen...eh. It had a good run. To be honest, I wasn't even going to get into this line, feeling still having my vintage figures was enough, but then I started stumbling onto websites selling them for way cheaper prices than originally sold for, and so I have all of waves 1-4 now...but again, got them at cheaper prices than they originally went for.
I can respect you're getting out, but I'm sticking with the line. Of course, I'm probably unlike a lot of collectors and just picking up one or two figs a wave so that makes it easier. I don't like everything Super7 has done, but there's enough good there for me to stick with it.
I have always thought these were ridiculously over priced. I have a couple of them that I bought on clearance for ~$25. That's about what they're worth. At ~$55, they're the same price as a lot of the Neca 2-packs and about $20 more than a lot of the Neca single figure releases. Neither figures have great articulation, Neca also has it's share of of QC issues, but Neca just kills Super7 on paint. Super7 looks like they have Marvel Legend's budget for paint. I know you said that you don't like the Neca look, so I suppose that makes it a lot easier of a comp for you, but when I look at these two lines I just, can not, in any way, justify the $55 price point on these. I do have to say though, whatever super7 used for their glow in the dark mutagen man works really well. I don't know if it's a paint or the plastic, or both, but I'll give them props on that, for sure.
Marvel Legends have better paint apps in my opinion. Especially their recent release. We almost can't get beautiful woman figures paint in super 7, in Legends some of the woman figures paint are awesome.
I'm one of those that played the wait game and got 80% of turtles ultimates for way less than MSRP I've pretty much cherry picked each wave and have been happy so far but yeah super7 prices don't equate what you actually get
I stopped with TMNT after getting the turtles, Casey, Bebop, and Baxter. I splurged on Ace Duck out of nostalgia, and it was okay, but agreed with the criticisms over the jacket and other colors. No more turtles for me. I even cancelled my preorders for the Silverhawks (which I was very excited for prior to seeing their first physical samples in videos and photos after the toy show). Truly a shame given how there are some great Ultimates figures like Monkian and Slithe. There are just too few of those jewels showing up lately.
Jay! been watching your content since the lost podcast. I was in the forum when you and Colleen were having some bet over bits or something in the forum. sorry if that's creepy haha. always love your stuff!! -amanda
Haha oh man Amanda that's a blast from the past!! They were like Karma points or something like that. Thanks for listening and watching all these years!! - Jay
Wave 6 was my last pre-order from Super 7. Just not worth the price to get them and a weaker Wave 7 with a non original TMNT figure in Guerilla Gorilla felt out of place. It's too bad that initial Wave 9 price was wrong cause they almost pulled me back in for another wave.
Their QC issues are unacceptable reguardless of price. I bought Ray Fillet because Best Buy had him on sale for $27. I don't have any paint ot torso issues on mine. It seems that I got lucky. In my opinion he is my favorite of the wave. I really wish that their QC was consistant. NECA and Loyal Subjects are my favorite lines. Super 7 are not worth the price anymore.
I'm all in on S7 until the wheels fall off.. I unfortunately say that. I have been fixing up old figures for decades now and know all the tricks to stiffen joints, loosen joints, repair joints, paint, rebuild... That said.. I am eff-ing tired of getting these expensive figures only to find out of the box I'm smoking joints.... They need to fix articulation, loose joints, and QC or they will go out of business. People will stop buying.. and I will be stuck with an incomplete collection of loose marionette puppets. S7 is a great company with heart and great customer service but S7 NEEDS to seriously get their sh_t together and quickly with these figures.
I don't disagree. I will say that wave 6 is a lot better in terms of the QC issues. But that wave came from a different factory than wave 5. I was all set to cherry pick wave 9. But then there was that temporary pricing snafu that got by S7 where you basically got the whole wave of 5 figures for $200. So U went all in. But unless something like that happens for wave 10 that'll be the last all-in for me on this line.
O and the hands thing is truly mind boggling. Do they really think that people are just sitting around changing these every few days? Do they really think that people are dumb enough to feel that by including them they justify the cost? Either way it makes no sense.
Yes, people are changing these things around all the time. I love the expressive hands. I always want a ton of hands. I hated when they skimped on extra hands for Bebop Rocksteady and Mutagen Man. If you don't pose out your figures, buy statues.
@@dubblewokad Haha, no their not. What you're doing would be the exception and not the rule. Most people display these things and that's pretty much the end of it. Sure, you could swap stuff out here and there, but my reply is "essentially" relating to the MULTIPLE sets and changing them every few days. If you're actually doing that, perhaps you need to find more to do with your life.
@@rumpelstiltskin5649 Whatever you're smoking, I'd like a hit off that haha. The whole reason for articulation is so you mess around with your displays. More options means more expressive hands and heads help for a more dynamic display on a shelf or for photography. You sound like a complete-ist who is more focused on obtaining rather than enjoying, and I'm sorry hear that you are one of the minority who vanilla pose your expensive plastic people.. if you even open them to begin with. Ultimate figures should always include lots of hands and heads.
The only things Super7 are great at these days are producing renders that are better than the actual releases and making sure we get 5 extra pair of hands to justify their high prices.
Yep. Throw in 5 extra pair of hands and jack up the price 20 dollars.
For 55 bucks, the QC issues are unforgivable. Super 7 needs to stop insulting their customers if they believe these flaws will be ignored
Then STOP BUYING!! If you keep buying this gash they have NO INCENTIVE TO CHANGE

when I address renders vs what we get, I typically get shit on. whether it's valaverse, hasbro or super7. Good someone else is brining this up
I'm sorry you've gotten crapped on, you wont be here!
You’re not alone. My local store has so many of the TMNT Ultimates figures and even some that people have traded in.
If you persist in buying this gash then your contributing to it. They’ll have no incentive to change
Doubtful.
I really hope they'll take the feedback they're getting and do better, but that's up to them.
Bbbts 50%off😊
super 7 has spread itself too thin.
Well said. I have all the lines aside from wave 5. These figs are too expensive. But if hasbro put these out, they’d be just as much money.
Oh man! Spot on! The gold and silver is very off putting, especially the gold that should be shiny and premium.
Ugh im sorry Fox, thats very disheartening, especially with a childhood fav.
Was hesitating with super7 serie or neca, wich one you suggest ?!
NECA
This is a great channel.
Thank you so much!
I personally got only the main cast of the heroes i preferred the vintage line great video
Are the main 4 turtles and Splinter and Shredder worth it for about 44 ish?
Yup, completely agree
Agreed.
Very insightful review of this wave!
Thanks Ken!
I quit buying toys that you have to blow dry to move.
That's a fair policy
Even though you don't collect them I'm sure we can all agree Neca won the TMNT Figure War hahaha 😆 Team Neca TMNT!!!
LeatherHead looks like a grandpa with walking sticks though 😆
McFarlane Super Powers quality is why I returned everything to Walmart and stopped collecting the line. Capes were horrible, among other gripes. I hope Both Super7 and McFarlane improve….they have some cool looking stuff!
I'm in the same boat, have been on the waiting game for these but I found Wave 6 (minus the Mousers) for $100... I couldn't resist. Wave 6 so far I haven't had any quality issues other than Slash's weapon tree being broken.
Wow the whole wave for 100 bucks? well done!
@@GeekDadLife It was crazy, it had about a minute left on eBay and with it priced so low I really couldn't say no. But no loose legs and I haven't noticed any sloppy paint yet. My only complaint is I struggled with Ace Duck's wings just like Mad Hatter.
Glad I never bought into any of Super 7’s lines. I’ll stick to vintage, at least you know what to expect and unlike Super 7, they retain their value.
Oh dang, I didn't know they made a Ray Fillet back in the vintage line that didn't change color.
Yeah mine was non color changing, so when I saw the color change one for the first time, my mind was blown! lol
Don't blame ya at all
I’m not paying $55 unless QC is pristine. I’ll buy used on the secondary market, i don’t need to pay extra for a box.
I've been picking up most of the TMNT Ultimates new on ebay for $10-$20 cheaper than the retail price. Only cherry picking my faves. I'm waiting on Triceraton, Usagi and Fugitoid then I'll be done (unless they give us an Armaggon).
Yeah don't blame you there
I’m scared for the burning Godzilla now
Given they released most of the characters people wanted right in the first four waves, I don't think the line has a lot of time left.
Yeah getting these for the prices some sellers are selling them for is a great deal.
Luckily I never got any of these problems. But I did get mine earlier than most
I can respect you're getting out, but I'm sticking with the line. Of course, I'm probably unlike a lot of collectors and just picking up one or two figs a wave so that makes it easier. I don't like everything Super7 has done, but there's enough good there for me to stick with it.
The new Super7 Simpsons figures are very expensive considering the small scale.
Started showing up in b&m stores for £19.99
Neca seems to be stronger in this line in my opinion no matter what you might think of the cartoon style.
- Jay
X'd my pre orders. I hope the robin hood fig turns out nice.
That's the problem, they show these great pictures but actual toys are not the same look at the GI Joe
Raph didn't come with the mustachioed white man face mask disguise??. I vividly remember that accessory.
Yeah, Wave 9 does look strong, but its a def wait and see from here on out for me.
Good decision Jay, stick with MOTU and Ghostbusters!! 🙂😁
Hah, you guys here complaining about 55 bucks for these, in EU we pay 75 euros
And now, from the wave that has punker don, it will cost a 100
Their QC issues are unacceptable reguardless of price.
Great vid!
Thank you! And thanks for letting me use your picture!
Sadly I feel like these peaked with Baxter Stockman in wave 1. I cut bait after wave 4.
I let them fool me once with Metalhead. I’m done with Super7 entirely.
Sheesh. A lot of problems for such expensive figures. That's a shame
Agreed!
My Samurai Leo's neck peg snapped, as well. Yet another weak point and QC issue.
Damn, I'm sorry, that really stinks
Me too.
Wave looks great.
I made the same decision as you on this wave and I'm cherry picking going forward
My Samurai Leo came out of the box super loose like the one in that video.
I've heard wave 6 is better, I hope it gets better in general going forward.
The lack of review samples from influencers for the latest Disney wave is sus.
