    I have a small flock of wild mallards that came and stayed after I made the mistake of feeding them. But I fell in love with them and absolutely adore these ducks. My flock varies from 6 to 36 depending on the time of year. Just before migration I will have up to 36. They’re coming to pack on the weight before they migrate and I have six that have adopted me and stay year-round. I want to make sure I’m taking care of my wild ducks correctly since they’ve decided to move in and stay with me. I am feeding them Parina premium duck chow. They also free range on our little lawn that we don’t fertilize or use pesticides on. And they have access to two little ponds plus, they have access to fresh drinking water all day. My ducks stay until about 8 PM and then they takeoff and then they’re back again at about 5:45 in the morning the next day. I guess they’re going to stay with their other friends. am I giving them the right feed? Do they need anything else?

      Can i ask why? I'm new to chickens and ducks I've had chickens for a while now. we have 2 ducks and they eat the chicken feed and are fine 🤷 the guy at tractor supply told me his ducks eat his chickens food and they've never had any problems with it.

    Very good information about ducks. I absolutely LOVE that duck house, it's beautiful!! I can't believe you made that in two months! I would live in that thing, lol!! When I get my property I want chickens, ducks, goats and whatever else I can manage on my farm. Thank you for such great information!
    Also, duck eggs are so so amazing along with goose eggs! I haven't had either in a few years - my lady that I used to get them from quit coming to our area unfortunately and boy do I miss them!

      Glad you enjoyed it! Good luck to u. Investing in this property was the best things we'd done and only wish we could have afforded it earlier. Better late than never though eh. Sometimes we just eat duck eggs scrambled like chicken eggs Bigger egg, more durable shell and the ducks lay a LOT.

    Really enjoying all the great info. I inherited 2 geese and a duck recently and am learning all i can. I have chickens and dont want more chickens after they live out their lives. Very sweet girls but they are so susceptible to illness in my opinion.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm

      Thnx for the comment. I love having both actually. But the fact is in three years here on the farm, only one duck has died…probably more than half dozen chickens have died. And I do all I can for my flock, it’s just interesting. Ducks are not for everyone, but they are incredible just the same imo.

    • @robrenhar

      @HiddenSpringFarm oh no...I was talking about the chickens being susceptible to many illnesses. Plus heat related death. You are right about the ducks and geese. Your videos are so full of info and very well done and enjoyable. Thank you.

    This will be my first winter with ducks. How do the khaki Campbellsdo in winter? Do you use any heated water containers for winter? Last year I just checked the chickens' water a few times a day and refilled and chipped ice.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  Рік тому +4

      ua-cam.com/video/UgsHsp5a404/v-deo.html watch this video it’ll help. Short answer is the kc ducks are amazingly winter hardy and yes I used a puck style heater all winter and it works great. If u just fill water it takes about 2 hrs fir it to freeze…more than enough time fir the duckies to do their thing. But you’ll need to give em fresh water multiple times a day. The heater lessens your work.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm

      At the very start I threw one in the air and said they’re too plump to fly 😆. It has something to do with the centuries being domesticated and they have no wing development.

      I found the most accessible niacin in my area is Brewers Yeast but you may have to research your own area. I just mix it in the food so they get some all the time. I only give it to ducklings too once they’re adults and out on pasture they eat a ton of insects.

      give it water at all times, feed it starter chick feed, give it a heat lamp until it grows some feathers and try not to let it swim while it's still young cause it'll catch a chill.
