Citizen Queen was a project Scott Hoying of Pentatonix put together. They were gathering momentum, but the blond (soprano 2) left, then COVID happened. The alto (semi-agro hair) has recently disappeared. The soprano 1, long dark hair is just beginning a theater stint in London. In some videos the beatboxer raps and beatboxes at the same time. She sings alto, too. The contralto has an amazing voice. Their potential was HUGE.
You found Citizen Queen! Bass and beatboxer make the group, I agree. They're still together with high soprano. The other 2 left but can replaced. Good women bass & beatboxer are hardest to find!
Hi there bro. I know the Fugees did this song but it wasn’t the original. I can’t remember who actually sang the original but this one here is absolutely fantastic. These woman’s voices are absolutely beautiful. thanks so much for doing this video. Please take care of yourself and blessings to you and your family from the UK.
@@musiceastwest397 Actually, Roberta Flack is the one who took this to #1 on the charts in '73, but she wasn't the first >>> Lori Lieberman originally recorded and released "Killing Me Softly With His Song" in 1972. The song was co-written by Lieberman with Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel. Lieberman's version was based on her reaction to seeing Don McLean in concert.
The only all female acappella group with women bass and beatboxer. History of Girl Groups is older, but so fun to watch and well arranged. That should be your next. Thanks for reacting to them and promoting them to your radio station friend!
They opened for Pentatonix until lockdown. I love Kaedi's baseline in this. Cora beatboxes and sings, like Layne in VP. History of Girl Groups is really fun! What songs did they change up? I think Don't Call Me Angel and Señorita. I'm not sure if the music is very different or just their rapport , beatboxing and tight group vocals don't sound at all like the originals.
One of my favorite songs to sing! Loved this song growing up, and it still holds up probably 50 yrs after Roberta Flack made it a #1 Billboard hit! (I was around then and old enough to sing this, by the way!) This was beautiful. I have a new fave girl group! Loved your reaction to them. Thanks!
Beautiful harmonies! That drop was cool, when the bass (contralto?) and beatboxer came in. They add so much like you said. I'm gonna listen to their Evolution of Girl Groups right now. Thanks for introducing me to them! Edit: The girl group medley is so fun!! Decades of iconic music and dance. Wow!🤩
Hi, just watched all your videos with Diana Navarro, and thought you might like Fatah Ali Khan and Abida Parveen as well. I was totally mesmerised the first times I heard them on Coke studio (so many great fusions between modern instruments and styles with traditional south Asian devotional and folk music). I'd warmly recommend you listen to for example Chaap Tilak. Thanks for bringing forth great music from outside the pop main stream genres!

The original is by the legendary Roberta Flack, released in the '70s.

I’ve just tried to download it from iTunes but it’s not showing up. What a pity.
Maybe spotify?
There is no way on God's earth that, that was and authentic original audio performance.

the lips are not in sync.
The video on Citizen Queen's channel is in sync. Probably changed by AMR to avoid blocking.
