Thanks for that video...I told my sister and niece that if they were kayaking they would want to stay close to shore and go together as re entering a kayak is a lot harder than it looks...and to prove it I took them just over their head and let them try. They couldn't do it. And we had lots and lots of laughter while watching them try. I will show them this video and we will try it next year when the weather is warm and we need to get cooled off. Your techniques look like it will work. Thanks again. :)
Went Kayaking for the first time in the sea yesterday, and managed to capsize in deep water. It took about 5 attempts in very choppy water to get back on, having no initial idea how to do so. This video is great. Thank you.
thanks Jason and Dave,I turtled in the sea at Scarborough Reef recently, and if I had not watched your video 3-4 times would not of had a clue on How To Re-Enter a Yak,I haven't practiced Re-Entry and did exactly without panic or fear what was shown, and I can say without seeing your video's I would not of had a clue on how to re-enter, I do suggest as you do practicing how to Re-Enter or get lessons and have shared your video with My Son and Nephews hoping to give them an insight on self rescue, and when the water is warmer will practice for sure, so many thanks and keep up the great Videos, I now have anchor set up with a break away system
I am new to kayaking and your video is the best video on how to get back on a sit on top kayak. I went in my pool yesterday and tried your techniques which worked well. I live in Florida where is a lot of lakes. I plan on taking a kayaking safety course but until I do this video was really great. I hope to see more. Thanks again
Thanks for the awesome tutorial! I've gone about 200 miles on my kayak and never fell out, haha. I guess I need to learn how to get back in. My time will come eventually.
Great demonstration. I will pass it on. Two suggestions. First, after overturning your body will be low in the water like a sea anchor and your boat will be bobbing on the surface like a cork ready to be quickly blown away from you...if your not holding onto it. So hold on to it. Since you will likely need your hands to put the float bag onto the paddle you can use put your foot into the boat, or under a line. Second, my personal preference is to put the bag on the paddle and then secure the paddle to the boat. And of course this is all a lot easier since you wore your life vest and you don't have to tread water. Be safe.
@ypoons89 my pleasure, hope it helps...Dave will be pleased you like as he spent 40mins in cold water for me to get the right shots .. while I sat on my kayak ;-)
thanks for this, I was new to kayaking and ended up at sea capsized and soon found out just how difficult it can be to get back on my sit on top (I'm a large man), if it wasn't for a friend holding my yak I don't think I could have done it and would have had swim back to shore with the Kayak, I will be looking at a paddle float for sure.
hmm... good question and brings up many safety precautions pre trip... if you have hurt your arm in a way that you cannot lift your self back on I would think you wont be paddling anywhere, you would need to call for help or get towed by a fellow paddler,,, they would also help you get back in.. I have not tried it one handed but am pretty confident the paddle float with stirrup option will work, wont look pretty but will work.
wow this video is great man, i was on the water yesterday and my kayak roll and i fall in to the water and i couldnt get back on, thank fully my brother in law was close to me and he help me get back on it, thanks for the safety tips, i lost two of my good fishing poles. :(
Hi Tom..I have a few where I am using the longline.. what specifically do you want to see and I will try to point you to the correct one.. ua-cam.com/video/0FtlFbeI1xU/v-deo.html
lol i was thinking the same thing when he was blowing up that paddle float.Great idea but no time for that here in Louisiana marshes! When those alligators hear that splash there coming to check things out.
Loved your video, but you have MISSED a brilliant tip to not capsize in the first place... Take two paddles out with you. One to propel the kayak and the other one with an inflated paddle float on each blade strapped behind the seat like in your vdeo :)
thanks for this , I went out at lulworth cove , uk, in the surf , inexperienced and came off , if it wasn't for a jurrassic tours trainee who help me I would have been screwed , gonna practice tommow .
One of the best and most comprehensive videos on re-entry I've seen. Really very helpful and well demonstrated.
Thank you for your video. It is far and away the best and most comprehensive video I have ever seen on how to get back into a SOT kayak!
Well done!
Thank you. glad it was useful :-)

Good instructions. I kayak in Florida, but I've never had to get back on my Hobie Revo. It's 13-feet long and very stable.
Thanks for the awesome tutorial! I've gone about 200 miles on my kayak and never fell out, haha. I guess I need to learn how to get back in. My time will come eventually.

This is very informative. I will try this when the weather gets warmer at the lake. Thanks.

lol i was thinking the same thing when he was blowing up that paddle float.Great idea but no time for that here in Louisiana marshes! When those alligators hear that splash there coming to check things out.

Can't you just use your floating bag to prevent from tipping the kayak?
