  • Born in Dundalk in February 1996, Jon Gallagher left Ireland with his family aged nine.
Fast-forward to 2023 and the wing-back has been in goalscoring form for Major League Soccer side Austin FC, including netting the goal of the week for mid-March against Real Salt Lake.
Gallagher chats to RTÉ Sport's Raf Diallo about spending part of his youth in places like Singapore and Jamaica and moving alone to England aged 15 to try and kickstart his football career.
He also discusses his exepriences in the MLS with Atlanta United and Austin over the last five years, a productive loan spell at Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership and his dream of one day playing for the Republic of Ireland, having had an Under-21 opportunity scuppered by injury.
