Oh my god, each reaction getting better than the last one as you get into the show! I was the same way. I actually took me a long time to get into the show, I hated the characters so much! I'm really psyched to see your reaction to the Shiv/Tom relationship; you are one of the great relationship reactors! First Annie Hall, now this! When I recommend movies, I will be keeping that in mind! You cackling at Willa's one-upping Tom was priceless......as was your reaction to the caption on the TV set "Why are all the older celebrities dying?" LOL.
Love that you recognise the impulse to feel sorry for Kendall but are smart and moral enough not to fall for it. My big fear with the show was that it would be forced to humanise these monsters in some way, to keep people watching. After finishing it, I really feel they avoided this trap and were very clear that, despite having some elements of humanity - as any human does - these really were monsters who we should not feel sorry for one iota. Hope you come back to the rest of the series. Also, the writer/creator, Jesse Armstrong, also wrote Peep Show, which I think you would really like if you haven't seen it already. He can somehow capture perfectly the lives of people at totally opposite ends of the class spectrum.

I don't know if it was ever explained, but Shiv is a political consultant and she is working for Joyce who is running for office to be a New York senator. Joyce's husband posted a picture of his a-hole online and ATN, Shiv's family run news company, keeps running the story. This is why Joyce told Shiv the story is not going away because ATN won't let it and to talk to her father, to get ATN to stop running the story. ATN is the equivalent of Fox News and plays a big part in the show.
