I bought one brand new in 84, for $3400. It was my only vehicle at the time while in the Marines. I'd ride it home on weekends 12 hours round trip, super smooth doing a buck ten on i95 @ 3 in the morning. Great memories
I also purchased one of these back in 1984. I have owned several other bikes during my life, and I own a 2022 Harley Low Rider now, but this 1984 Nighthawk S remains my favorite bike of all time; fast, fun, such great memories. And yes sir, thank you for your service.
Me and 2 of my friends walked into a Honda dealer in 1985. One friend bought a new Blue nighthawk, the other a V65 Sabre, and I bought a 1981 CB750F that had just been un crated.
I had the same exact bike. Rode that bike from Chicago to California in 1985. Loved that bike! Wish I still had her. I ran with bigger Kaws. She was so much fun! Trouble Free! Great Video!
This was my second bike. I currently have a Ninja and a CBR sitting in my garage, but even those two don't compare to this machine in my opinion. Mine was the 86 model and while it was used, it was in perfect condition, replaced the stock exhaust with super traps and it sounded awesome, oh the memories.
Man I have always loved these bikes. In 1984 I was 18 years old and I believe I was writing a Honda CX 650 Custom at the time. Great bike. Loved it. But then my best friend decided to go to Sullivan’s Honda City in Middletown Connecticut and buy a brand new bike. Well, I think you can all guess what he bought. Brandy new 1984 Honda Nighthawk S in red and black. I was so freaking jealous. I still remember the first ride he let me take on it. I came back and I was so impressed and I was like “Brian… How did you know this bike was so awesome“? He said, “Well… I just loved the way it looked and it’s a Honda so I knew it would be mint”!!! It ruined me because I enjoyed it so much more than my own bike. Don’t get me wrong, my bike was fine and in pristine condition… But it wasn’t the Red & Black beauty known as the Nighthawk S!!!
Wow! I bought same bike brand new in 84. Rode it from Chicago to southern California and back in 85. Loved that motorcycle. It was a lot of fun to ride. Handled awesome. What a trip down memory lane!
I know there are faster bikes but for some reason 83-86 nighthawks 650 and 700 are my favorite bikes ever built .They are just so good looking and well made and reliable that I can't even look at other bikes now .
If I remember correct they had hydraulic lifters in the valve train and they had no clicking or valve train noise and never needed adjusting. Always wanted one because of that, my Yamaha was always clicking and tapping at idle
Boy does this take me back!!! That was my first road bike. Bought a black and red one brand new for nearly $3K from the local Honda dealer. I remember it had a gear indicator with "OD" as 6th! LOL
Back once again… I can't help myself. Lol. God I used to love these bikes and still do. They're fairly timeless. If you were to take those orange pumpkins off and put some regular turn signals on it, and maybe if it had a rear disc brake, you could tell me it was designed yesterday and that it's a brand new bike and I would believe it.
Man those things were a blast. Super smooth and predictable. Thanks HD for making this the freaking best Nighthawk ever produced (750 import tariff of '83)!
That is a timeless classic for sure . Another time Honda did everything right . I owned 4 VFR'S and never understood why people didn't like them as much . Mine were dead solid reliable , sounded great with that unique rumble and were magic on the road. The only one that had troubles were the 500 . It's oil journals were too small and some of them seized. But , 750 , 800 and 1000's were great . Let a Honda go through 1 year of production and you've got a pretty sure bet . PK
That was my bike, I completely went through it.I cleaned and detailed or replaced everything on it, I'm ocd had two at the same time both looked identical! 😊
84 Nighthawk 700S blue 05 ZRX 1200 green 83 CB1100F white tank black rims 89 ZX7 Ninja green/blue/white. Twin round headlights and pool hoses from the fairing to the gas tank. My short list of badass bikes. The Nighthawk has a model with white tank and black rims. It looks wicked.
Sounds a lot better w/ my headphones on! I love the style on this almost reminds me of my 900 SS. Like an untampered w/ 40 r old bike but I could never keep 1 stock.
I'm currently restoring one of these, class of '84 factory blue. You should consider going up a size or 2 on the jets, these bikes were tuned really lean to meet emissions standards, causing high temps, damage & warping. Having to bore my motor over .75mm because it's so warped .5mm wouldn't be enough.
I agree. My 84 650 Nighthawk was setup very lean from the factory. I’m restoring an 85 Maxim 700, and although I think the pilot mixture likes to be towards the lean side (for the enricher to work correctly with OEM air filter) I think the main jet could be a size larger as it feels a little flat up top. I think the jet needle is a good taper though (no flat spots) just feels like it could use a little more punch through the mid range and top end.
Yup. I've owned two historic-tag bikes here in MD... '82 Kawasaki GPz 550 and the rare '85 Yamaha XJ 700, (which was only manufctured for 2 years because of the U.S. tariffs on Japanese 750cc bikes). -Back then, the Japanese were crushing the 750cc market and slamming Harley XR 750 sales with their Yamaha XS 750 models, so the U.S. slammed em back with those tariffs for 2 years. -It actually worked out for both of em.
I'm going, hopefully, this Sunday to pick one up 🤞 It's exactly like this one and has 34,000 original miles on it 😊 The guys asking $2,500😮 If it's still available and checks out, it's mine 😁

There's one of these in the same color parked in south Philly. Not sure if it runs, but I wish the owner would at least throw a tarp over it. Beautiful bike
I always loved these. That was the year I turned 16 and if I was rich that’s probably the bike I would’ve killed myself on 😂😂😂 but I still had that kind of 70s muscle car kind a look and the color is awesome another time that was a pretty hot looking bike that was still kind of the muscle car era brute look to it and I loved it. Eventually I ended up with an XL 600 which Ashley said to me better but I loved these I still think they look awesome that would look awesome sitting next to an old Chevelle or an Oldsmobile 442.
One sexy machine Kap, inline 4, 6 speed that topped out at 236.6 km/h (147.0 mph). Even tho it did not have the brakes to stop it in time. Pls don't ride these museum pieces full throttle 🙏
If I'm not mistaken it had 80hp and the rider tested this bike turned a 12 flat quarter mile and top speed was close to 150mph absolute beautiful gazelle of a bike!
I seem to remember 80hp. 12 flat and not sure about top speed. Had a brand new 84 and loved that thing. Caught a bunch of bigger bikes off guard and beat them. Summer of 84 was pretty good for me.
This was the bike I was gonna buy from the Honda dealer in the winter of 84...........then I found out that they had a brand new '79 silver CBX still in the crate (for $3495) Sorry Nighthawk 😉
@@ar2043 sadly no 😞 I sold it in 1994 when I started my own business. 20,000 glorious miles. Down to my '72 Triumph T100R Daytona and my '18 KLR-650. It is what it is -_-

Thank You For Your Service!
Semper Fi, Bro!
Funny, I just commented then I read this.....mine was Red and Black also brand new and I remember paying around $3300. Crazy!
Thank you for your service, and they are very nice bikes.

Seeing this is like stepping back in time , I feel a little younger to . I miss the early 80`s paint colors Honda used .
I had the same exact bike. Rode that bike from Chicago to California in 1985. Loved that bike! Wish I still had her. I ran with bigger Kaws. She was so much fun! Trouble Free! Great Video!

Used to love riding on my Uncle's Nighthawk. That is the most beautiful shade of blue that I have ever seen. 😲
Back in 84...that was a very Stylish. Quick n sharp looking bike..bullet proof too

Those bikes rock. Shaft drive too.
Super low maintenance. Classic look.
I love road glides but I just developed a new found love for this style of bike. That one is so sick I need one now
Now I want a xr650l
Wow! I bought same bike brand new in 84. Rode it from Chicago to southern California and back in 85. Loved that motorcycle. It was a lot of fun to ride. Handled awesome. What a trip down memory lane!
A great way to begin collecting. These are reliable, timeless and still quick today! The red and black version is my favorite.
That the exhaust survived is a miracle in itself. Nice. 🦅❤🙏
I never knew that model existed, that is a beauty
Back again and I still love this bike. Lol. I have loved them since the day they came out. That is a nice scoot!!!
I know there are faster bikes but for some reason 83-86 nighthawks 650 and 700 are my favorite bikes ever built .They are just so good looking and well made and reliable that I can't even look at other bikes now .
I bought one in 2003 and had it for 4 years. Such a cool bike! So maneuverable.
i had the exact bike in 1988. i bought it for 1800.00 . with 9000 miles on it. kept it for 4 years an sold it for 1800.00 wish i had kept it.
If I remember correct they had hydraulic lifters in the valve train and they had no clicking or valve train noise and never needed adjusting. Always wanted one because of that, my Yamaha was always clicking and tapping at idle
Doesn't look like it's aged ! What a great looking bike ! Paint job is fresh !

Those Nighthawk S’s are my absolute dream bike…
I had the exact same one back in 85 very nice bike
I remember a Nighthawk tv commercial with Freddie Spencer riding on a track. I wanted that bike so bad after that.
One of My Favorite Bikes of All time 😍
That black chrome exhaust 👍👍
My first bike was CB 700 SC had to sell it but bought the same bike again ! Bulletproof !!
I still want one. One of my favorite Hondas. Sweet! 👊😎

I think if the 500 failed from lack of oiling (at the cam journals I think) Honda would supply a new engine. Been a while but thats what i think.
Beautiful bike! That was the first road bike my Dad and I bought (red). Thanks for showcasing the Nighthawk. 👍
I bought the red and black one brand new too!
They don’t make them like that no more. God bless America 😎🇺🇸✌🏽
That was my bike, I completely went through it.I cleaned and detailed or replaced everything on it, I'm ocd had two at the same time both looked identical! 😊
Worked on one of those last week..blk n red.no rust on the pipes..nice bikes.
I had one back in the early 90's I ride a vulcan now but really want another 84 nighthawk as my second bike :) I loved it.
84 Nighthawk 700S blue
05 ZRX 1200 green
83 CB1100F white tank black rims
89 ZX7 Ninja green/blue/white. Twin round headlights and pool hoses from the fairing to the gas tank.

Black rims without polished lips/edges.
Looks good , sounds good and goes good.
UNREAL BEAUTY
very nice had the red one back in the day
Bought the red and black one as well! What an incredible bike!
Those were great bikes! If I could afford a bike this is what I'd buy!!
Always a good looking bike, such a great sport/cruiser...that's a nice one there!!!
Some of the sickest bikes in the country…love them OEM machines almost as much as them modded rrrrrrrip your house off the foundation 500’s! 🤘🏽🇺🇸
Best bike I ever owned

I had friends with this bike in high school graduated in 91 I had a 86 ex 10
I had an 86 in red/black with all gloss black where this one has aluminum bits.
Bought mine earlier this year, not pristine, fucked it up myself but fixed her up and riding her around like god intended!
Stunning 💪
Back in 86' I test rode the S model, it was used with low miles and I red. I remember it was very fast.
Mr Kap did they also make a inline 6?
Never owned one of those but always thought the blue one was a great looking bike.
Always liked them. . 1984 😂. Me too R we old. Nah. Just a little aged to perfection ! 👍
another GEM from NEMM!
I was looking for a red, white and blue one but settled on a 84’ red. Definitely cheaper to own by having a Maryland historic tag on it.

Nice blue colors!
Iz it sold ?
I'm going, hopefully, this Sunday to pick one up 🤞
It's exactly like this one and has 34,000 original miles on it 😊
The guys asking $2,500😮
If it's still available and checks out, it's mine 😁
Wow, im not much on slick tire bikes but hot damn what a beauty!
80's machines are getting harder and harder to find in decent shape. Parts are even harder. I love my 83 GS 750E

The only thing I don't like is the twin exhaust. Have never seen aftermarket exhaust on one of these.

I think the grey witn black trim versions that bike was a eye catcher
How much...
I'm in Canada so we got the750 here.
How much you want for it
I just told my wife, I said the bike doesn't really look like a 40 year old bike regarding style. Would almost fit in today.
they are sweet bikes indeed ! Ashamed they got neutered down 50cc by a freakin' chicken tax ! I wished I still had all of my hairy nubs 😉😅
I always thought these looked great, it was a sixth grade dream bike🤣
There needs to be an 1100 version.
This was the bike I was gonna buy from the Honda dealer in the winter of 84...........then I found out that they had a brand new '79 silver CBX still in the crate (for $3495)
Sorry Nighthawk 😉
Joe Blow : WOW!!! ‘79 CNX!!! Still have it by any chance??? Sick scoot!!!!!!

700 cc. Too bad they didn't make an 1100 version
Nice bike but it has the wrong starter on it
