Thanks for this new series Jeff, good how you explain the Stories around these Classic Matches and Moments. This show was full of great Matches and Moments and SummerSlam in the early years 88-92 was always great to watch, Fun & cool Events in the Summer.. And you reminded me of last years Show, which i thought was a very good Show, so as The Rowdy one would say Wham Bam SummerSlam 2014!!
Summerslam 1988 was set up for Success. Gotta be honest I'm glad Flair stayed with NWA/WCW. Sure had Savage vs Flair happened at this PPV we would have got a 5 Star classic but if Flair left the NWA we would have gotten no Sting in 1988 after their 5 Star classic. But guys also think about this to, we still would have gotten the Mega Powers cause the 4 Horsemen(AA, Tully & Windham and maybe even JJ to) was coming with Flair so we could have gotten Mega Powers vs the 4 Horsemen. But at WM 5 there would have been no Hogan vs Savage it would have been Hogan vs Flair. But maybe SS 89 would have been Hogan vs Heel Savage. But still I was fine with Flair staying in 88
Some of my favorite things about this show was the commentary between Gorilla Monsoon and Superstar Billy Graham. And when Bobby Heenan came out for a minute and claimed that Hogan and Savage had locked themselves in their dressing room and were begging and pleading for a way out of the match, Classic..
