The use of pre-programmed brackets did not eliminate the need for the orthodontist to manipulate torques in order to achieve a good interarch relationship, as well as proper aesthetic and functional positioning of the teeth. Over the years, many prescriptions have been proposed to help orthodontists avoid bending. While this approach certainly works for average cases, it’s crucial to bear in mind that we’re not exclusively dealing with simple cases. A solid grasp of torque concepts and the ability to implement them effectively grant orthodontists the flexibility to use any prescription for treating all cases.
