  • In this chat with Fearne, Björn Natthiko Lindeblad opens up about how his experiences as a forest monk in Thailand helped him come to terms with the idea of death, and how his reflections have challenged the many preconceived notions that many automatically attribute to it. At the time of recording, Björn was very ill; he had ALS, a progressive nervous system disease. Sadly, Bjorn passed away from his illness before this episode was released.
For 17 years Björn Natthiko Lindeblad lived in Thailand’s jungle as a forest monk. He learnt how calm can encourage clarity of thought, that he prefers walking meditation to sitting, and that freedom can come from not being bound to material possessions.
What resonated with you the most from today's episode with Björn?
Björn Natthiko Lindeblad was a Swedish economist, lecturer, and Buddhist monk. Björn became interested in meditation and Buddhism before and during his year in India, and in January 1992, he applied to Wat Pah Nanachat, a poor forest monastery in northeastern Thailand, and became a monk named Natthiko Bhikkhu.
Björn’s book is called I May Be Wrong: And Other Wisdoms from Life as a Forest Monk, and it’s out now.
