- Landover, Maryland, USA - 1984 World Professional Figure Skating Championships, Ice Dancing, Technical Dance - Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean of Great Britain won the Technical Dance with their skate to Song of India.

I think this is the best ice dance performance of all time.
Never saw the likes of this before this amazing couple started skating together and have not seen the likes of this ever since. They had it all - artistry, athleticism, musicality, poise, inspiration, craftsmanship, dedication, strength, confidence, humility, beauty, courage, pure poetry in motion - perfection. 10 indeed!

Although they have long since retired and I hope are still mentoring and training others, for my generation they are the King and Queen of ice dancing/figure skating. Grateful to be able to enjoy their performances again on UA-cam. 👏🏽🌹👏🏽

I have never seen this performance before, but it is the most amazing ice dance that I have ever seen. They just seem to move as one. It was absolutely beautiful. I wonder why we have not seen this wonderful performance before. Could watch it over and over again.

I can’t fully express how grateful I am that the videos of Torvill and Dean are on UA-cam! Their performances are nothing short of extraordinary and breathtaking! I will NEVER forget their performances in the 1984 Winter Olympics! My eyes well up and my heart swells every time I watch them! What a gift!

I think this is perfection and better then the bolero… if you could ever top that. However the music, costumes, fluidity of moment and auch a fabulous choreography made be be drawn in awe of such greatness.

Everyone talks about it all, but just as important, their costume choice is perfect also. Perfect for what they are going to dance.
O. My. God. I'd never seen this one before. What enormous strength it takes to skate that slowly, and make the lifts effortless. They look like Hindu Gods.

Watching this in the confines of a COVID19 lockdown in Australia in 2020, has brought me so much joy. I was lucky to enough to see them live when they came to Australia and I fell in love with them. Their professionalism and technique have yet to be equalled, but something magical happened when they stepped on the ice as a pair. Their choreography matched perfectly to their impeccable choice of music. They brought ice dancing to a whole other level, one which I believe will never be surpassed.

Oh! I'm so sorry for you both ...and everyone in Canada , New Zealand, UK and of course America ...but Australia has got to be the WORST for so few cases ...never been done in history this massive lockdown causing even MORE misery, loss of income, starvation in the 3rd world & death! It's really time to pray for an end to this "bbb" tyranny! Torvill & Dean are a great comfort ...& other beauty yet gleaned on YT.
@@kindlydude did you ever consider why there have been so few cases comparatively? It’s because we went into lockdown. Do you see the correlation? It’s no accident that that is how it works. I’m so sick of the whinging about how we live in a dictatorship with a tyrant in charge. Well I would like anybody to come forward and tell me how they would have done it better with the knowledge that was at hand. Not the 20/20 hindsight that makes it so easy to criticise. Just grow up and thank God you live in a country that cares more for its citizens than the almighty dollar!
Agreed Lynne. I watched them with my Mum back in the 1980s on TV. We were spellbound by them. I don't remember seeing this one though. Just magical!

Perfection - lovely music, fantastic choreography, lovely costumes and lovely Torvill and Dean - skating sensations.
That was when ice dancing was about artistry, not how many quads you could land.
This dance is like an exquisite painting fell from a wall and came to life.

This is THE most beautiful figure skating I have ever seen. The skating, the music and the costumes created a love seen. Incredible.
So sensual and provocative. The most difficult thing to do in any art is to create a sharable feeling. They knew how to do this every single time.

Just extraordinary. On the ice they are truly as one. No wasted moves, everything soldy smooth ~ This would have to be a couple making love on ice, without the thing we think of. Imagine if all couple conducted their lives like this. I doubt that this standard will ever be bettered. Dean is an amazing choreographer. Yes, he does most of the dance story at a technical level. But then again, I think this pair could go out there, and put on a show without planning and practice. That is how good they are.

Mesmerising just as all their performances were. And just imagine that a week or so ago, forty years on and again in Sarajevo where they first came to the attention of most of the world they have just announced their official retirement.. Forty years of perfection, they will remain the perfect dancing couple forever (on ice).

I have not seen this before - astonishing. It is not just the perfection of technique, choreography, story telling and costume but also simply the beauty of two young ideally proportioned young bodies at their peak that somehow catches one at the throat.

It may seem odd, but this is so perfect and beautiful, that a few little tears are welling. The music sets the mind to that. A sensory overload..
They were so perfect, Chris's choreography, and artistic talent, not to mention strength to pick Jayne's ability to partner him to DO the moves he wanted, they STILL dance on Ice and I feel blessed to have been able to watch them all this time..............remember also they both worked full time when they were amateurs, they had to get the BUS to the ice rink at 4am to practice and then go to work....and people today moan that its hard being a UA-cam creator :(

I was there watching the best ice dancers of all time, it was fantastic!!!! My mom and I went to the Professional Ice Skating Championship for many years, we saw the best of the best, so many of the Olympic and World Champions, so incredibly amazing to watch them in person, it was awesome. I have such fond memories of my mom, we enjoyed going together every year and then we went out to eat at a wonderful Restaurant every time, my beautiful mother, I miss her so much, I love you forever!!!!
Exquisitely beautiful and magical. I find the pairs ice skating routines these days to be stressful to watch. The moves are aggressive, and harsh with so much risk of falls. Give me the Torville and Dean enchantment any day with its highly skilled and fluid movements. Thank you for sharing this. xx

This is true interpretation of the music coupled with superb dancing on Ice. Today the music is often an 'also ran' and inconsequential to the gymnastics performed in the pairs competition. Sad, but true.

Fantastic. It was so fluid in the performance. Just perfection.
Torvill and Dean always skate with spell-binding, technically wonderful, virtuosic, and masterful performances with elan. It is rare that conceptualizations in performance competitions are not respected for their value, and that verbose technicalities have to be called to attention for an audience who can see for themselves. The simpering female commentary intrudes into this splendid performance. It is as if that individual has to assure a place in the event, however, it is like a caption under a picture which is self-evident. Still, Torvill and Dean leave a legacy which only a minuscule of challengers could reach. It is good to have this record of the event notwithstanding.
