I like how reassuring Allen is to Joan. He can tell she's nervous so he tries to give her confidence and comments on when she gives good clues :)

Mr. Allen was such a clever, courteous host. Yes, indeed he was aware of peoples' confidence or lack of confidence. He was always impressed by Betty being so quick with the answers. He would say, how did you get that in 2 goes?

" The more I saw of her, the more complex she seemed and the more perplexed I became. Hollywood is a parochial town where everyone knows everyone else's business. When word got around that I was doing a Life story on her, people got in touch with me to tell me Joan Crawford stories -- everybody from clapper boys to executives. Mainly they were stories that had to do with the children and her cruelty to them."

@@keithhyttinen8275 It is not a matter of "affordability" but the fact that for the most part, people no longer have nor care to have a sense of elegance, manners and poise. If there is one country where you can buy great clothes for very little money is right here in the United States. A person can go to a thrift store or a consignment shop and buy very nice items to dress elegantly. However, clothes alone will not do. People today lack elegance, poise, distinction and manners. That is the real problem and let me point out that the lack of manners and elegance also has to do with society's celebration of what is vulgar and unintelligent, something that did not start in the 70s and 80s but rather in the mid-90s. This has been in steady decline to the atrocious levels we experience today.

Watched a 2022 version of this show the other night. Guest panelists were Martin Short and Jimmy Fallon. Gone was all the class and professionalism shown 60 years ago. In its place-juvenile antics by the guest panelists. As a society we have gone to hell. So sad for America.

@@johnboys4697 Two iconic movie stars in the same movie but with very different roles. It must have been difficult to compete with Bette Davis when Joan's character was an invalid who spent most of the movie in bed, and yet she was outstanding in her portrayal of frustration and terror, making the audience fear for her. Joan should have been proud to promote the movie on her own merit.

Horrible clues and answers all the way around. They seem to forget the idea of putting all the clues together. Many stars did game shows such as Lucille Ball back in the day. I doubt she did this show for the money. As far as Joan Crawford being such a horrible mother there are just as many people who knew her who say she was not the awful mother that her daughter claims. That includes two of Joan's younger children. .

And many witnesses other actresses etc confirm christinas story. Both can be true its not uncommon for parents to scapegoat or abuse a particular child and not another. Why is it so hard fir people to see she was neither the hideous monster nor the sweet public persona but somewhere in between? Thats how we all are. Everyone has a shadow side.
