I just wanna say thank you to Mykayla for even filming this journey. I can’t imagine how stressful life must be for her right now but she’s still taking the time to show us some behind the scenes. I feel absolutely blessed and privileged to watch in (almost) real time the goings on of her and team USA. Can’t wait to watch all of them these next 2 weeks, the amount of pride I have for these girls just makes me well up 🥺

"If I wasn't good enough, I wouldn't be here" . This women seems to have an incredibly disciplined mindset. This is why I love the Olympics. The best of the best in the world all locked in aiming for one goal and now we have youtube and social media and we get to witness up close and personal their mindset and work habits.
I never realized how much tape/stuff gymnasts need…I also didn’t realize that they brought their own. I thought Team USA would provide tape, chalk and wraps. D everything

Same, At first i was wondering why she brings toilet paper, then I remembered that she is an athlete and its tape xD Im a dummy.
Tape and wraps are always brought by the gymnasts but I think usually chalk is provided by Team USA. This year bc of covid, each gymnast has to bring their own brushes, bottles, and chalk for their grips.

If you've seen the last episode of Golden, you'll see Tom going up to Morgan and others who did not made the national team and consoling them. Such a contrast to ignoring and throwing gymnasts aside that we're used to under Marta when one fails to perform to expectations.
I feel like Tom truly cares about them. You can see him giving advice and checking in ok them. I feel like since Martha left there's been a lot less injuries and the athletes seem happier and healthier. So outside of what I think about how he handles some things I truly respect him for all that.

Thank you so much for sharing this!!! You have probably heard this but a warm wash rag pressed on the stress pimple for 15 min, then ice for 15 min might really help. I get the same crazy stress pimples when I travel and I never have treatment products with me. But I do tend to have access to a rag, warm water, and ice. Woohoo!

I am a registered dietitian (nutritionist) for gymnasts and lovveeee that you brought snacks and are enjoying all the food!! Yes so common for your stomach to be upset with traveling and with stress, sorry you had to deal with that. Wishing you and team USA the best of luck!!! Rooting for you all!!

I was heartbroken when you realized you would not qualify for the vault during the prelims, but was still so proud of you for making the team. Now I am heartbroken your OG Grandma-in-crime has had to withdraw from the competition (fingers crossed she can compete in the beam) but over the moon you are getting your shot at an individual medal. From a life-long Red Rocks supporter I can't wait to see you take the world by storm in a short few hours! Good luck, MyKayla, but no matter what, you hold your head high because you are golden in my eyes!
I hate how people and you say you're not a part of the team. You ARE a part of Team USA, even if your scores don't count. YOU made the team, YOU are good enough, YOU will succeed.

@@luyzo92 So there is the team of 4 on USA and 2 Individual Specialist spots. The 4 for Team USA compete on all 4 events and can compete in the all around, all their scores count towards the all around. The specialists (Jade and Mykayla) are also on team USA as an individual, which means, they can compete all events, do event finals and team all around finals, however, their scores don't contribute to team USA, hence why they're an "Individual specialist".

I think they've also realised that it builds up support for the gymnasts and sport in general which can only be a good thing for their income in the future. Social media is becoming more and more and source of income directly and indirectly

I just want to say thank you to you and Jonas for taking the time to do this. No other gymnast that I’ve followed has ever given us an inside look at what it’s like to be there. Thank you! Take good care of yourself. Oh and for upset stomach: try some ginger if they will let you. I have a tincture I use and it settles my stomach in a minute or less. Good stuff! Good luck! Holding space that you make some event finals and bring home a medal or two or three! Have fun!

Don't think or feel negatively about your experience as an alternate. I coach junior curling. Selecting an alternate is difficult. We have to choose someone who is strong in everything, flexible in being able to fit in anywhere, and consistent to perform with little notice. These are very strong skills needed as a team athlete. #GOTEAMUSA

I think she means if someone on the main team gets injured or something. They could put her on the team to compete as the 4th member and replace her in the individual spot with Kayla or Emma. That is if they didn’t choose to pull Kayla or Emma up to compete with the team.

Awesome how simone loved waving to people, she seems so genuine.
You are so inspiring! I decided to change my career and go to medical school. I'm in my last year and am so nervous about applying to residencies against students who are younger and sometimes smarter than me. Something I feel like quitting because of how immense the pressure is to be the best. Even though it is definitely not the same as being an elite Olympian, I do go through some of the same doubts in my ability to perform and succeed. Your story is such a motivation for me to keep going despite that evil little voice telling me to stop. Thank you so much for your transparency in sharing your story! And shout out to Jonas, your documentary filmmaker!
