  • Our motorhome's rear window started leaking while it rained on our resent trip to Ireland. I temporarily fixed it but I now need to fix it for good and remove any rotten wood and damage caused.
    This is the sealant I used

    Super job - thanks for sharing that. I’ve got similar jobs to do including locker damp repair from (I think) the roof ladder fixing. FWIW I tend to replace screws with stainless as I do various jobs. The downside is you lose the rust as a diagnostic of water getting in… Thanks for all these videos - a great resource :-)

    Good job on the repair. I was wondering whilst watching if it was the old Bike rack bracket that was the cause of the leak, as water don't always leak through where the place on ingress is but at the place it is easiest for it to escape. I have to replace part of the Garage wall on Nessa at some point. it is not a large area, just a pain to get too. That will be something else to do once she has finally been fixed. just over a week to go til she is off to the Garage to be fixed. whilst there She'll have a few other jobs done, that needs sorting out.
    Great Video on the maintenance of Herman.

    Looking at the amount of dampness you have above the window,
    I think you have a problem with the bodywork seal above the window.

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad  10 місяців тому

      I think you're right, @hunter9372. The cause of the rotten floor at the rear a few years ago was caused by the roof seals. I have waterproof tape on them at the moment and intend to fix them one day.

    Great job mate - well done! Top tip - I would use Frog Tape Delicate Surface masking tape on the outside of the van. Its a bit more expensive than standard masking tape but the chances of pulling paint off when you remove it is sooo much less 😉

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad  10 місяців тому

      Thanks @tommo9757 👍👍. That's the problem with masking tape. If left on too long it is almost impossible to remove. Frog tape is better then is it?

    small tip use hand wipes from screwfix to remove silacon . Once you use them they are great for hands and any surface

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad  10 місяців тому

      Hand wipes? That doesn't sound right, @ciaranoconnor6783. Thanks for watching

    • @ciaranoconnor6783
      @ciaranoconnor6783 10 місяців тому

      I can absolutely guarantee they work.. Use them when the silicone is wet . Ideal when you silicone and you need to clean up surplus sealant or want to tidy edges. Not so good if the silacone is dry. Read up on it you'll be surprised
