You guys are my favorite UA-camrs I know it’s got to be hard putting out a video every week but thank you. Your Sunday videos make every weekend better! You do such a Wonderful job!! You two are such hard working individuals and you do fantastic work.
Absolutely brilliant job on that footer! You both ROCK! 🎉🥳🎉🥳🎉🥳. Ian, I hope you got into a hot soak and relaxed for a bit! Sheesh! You both are going to be International Weight Lifters by the end of this project! 😂😂😂.
I've been watching Cole the Cornstar do his basement rebar. The tool he bought for that that he originally thought was silly and indulgent turned out to be critical for their success. Get a cordless rebar tying tool.
The cost is excessive for 3 cube, about a 1000 euro where as mixing myself was around 300 euro. Plus I would have probably have had to hire in a pump at another 500 euro as the truck could not get down there.
Been a carpenter & joiner UK since 1989, half of which is civils/shuttering/(formwork to Americans), and I must say, you've done an excellent job! Steel fixing is an absolute bind, and I hate it!
Hi Ian and Julie hope this helps for future reference give or take depending on moisture contents a cubic meter of concrete weighs 2.2 tonnes and aggregate is app 1.6 -1.8 tonnes per m3 might help with getting quants right for future pours. Love the constant and as usual you complete commitment 👍🍺❤️
Yep me and my girlfriend have done 2 cubic metres in a day a couple of times but never 3, mind you we've only got a small mixer but each time i collapse on the couch afterwards and don't want to move for the rest of the day. It's a full body workout. 👍🏻
You make bending up that rebar look easy 😂 I nearly flipped my bench over trying to bend up 12mm 500n rebar like that. In the end I found the solution, 110a 3.2 stick, get a pool going for 5 seconds and it bends up easy as for the next 20s. Cheapest heat you can find I reckon and nearly instant. Cheers
Nard work guys for sure. 3 cube of concrete is a lot of mixing. I did a fair bit this year myself. Look up Tony McCormick he has a webpage with calculators for concret mixes and hardcore. Very handy for working out what u need up from. I have worked on loads of building sites and I neaver see any one use buckets to measure out. It’s just a UA-cam thing possibly. For every 25kg bag of cement 18 shovel fulls of cement works for me. Maybe it’s just getting used to the mixer. For big batches fill a barrel with water and then use a bucket to take the water from it to the mixer. Speeds up the process as well.
I just wanted to get the volumes right and each bucket is 10 litres (18 buckets a mix) and a shovel is whatever Julie can get on so it would not be consistant. But I know what you mean.
I know, it was in my pocket - I did try but believe me I was holding my breath for each bag. It was just too hot, grubbing and sweaty to put the mask on.
Greetings from Panama. I was reading your headline…. And you have all this fancy machines. I’m building a two story house in Panama by myself. Lifting 1,000 pounds of blocks by myself to the second floor. Next day lifting them again to build the walls. Did a 80 m2 foundation slab 20cm thick. Before that, 4 foot deep foundation stripe on the outside. All alone. This weekend I will lift the last blocks upstairs. I can’t see blocks anymore! 😂 And you are writing a headline “6 tons of concrete nearly killed us”? The only machine I have is my old concrete mixer I salvaged from a company who had several “thrown” into the bushes at their warehouse. I fixed it and put a 9hp motor in it. All in all the machine cost me $300. And you guys complain about 6 tons…. But I must admit. I hired 5 helpers for the slab for the 2nd floor! - A lot of people have no idea how heavy it is to build a house. And I mean the tons to be moved. So anyone could explain to my girlfriend why I am so tired when I get home please? 😅 I’m 165cm short and passed the 60 year mark “a while ago”. I just reading the text of your calculations for the materials you used 5.3 tons gravel mix & 700kg cement. Are you not forgetting something? The water, my friend. 1 liter = 1kg……. Only saying.
All that cement dust isn't good for your lungs when you are putting the bags into the mixer. My husband always wears a mask when he mixes concrete. Silicosis doesn't sound pleasant.
I can't, there is a hidden boundary that I have adhere to - it is an agricultural boundary that I must be at least 3 metres away from with any building . 😬
Good video thank you for posting, polite suggestion, when operating your Track Loader look what the bucket is doing , not at the leavers, you have had it while you should be able to manipulate the controls blind-folded.
GOOD JOB you two!!! And I'm glad it wasn't us :). Looking great.
hahaha, I wish it wasn't us 🤣
By the time you guys get it done you will be in great shape what a workout.
or completely knackered....🤣

Cheers Harry. The filming makes us honest and motivated, if not these jobs could go on for ever. We must get it done while we can still walk 😀

I did sleep well but am feeling it now.
Very well done! (or "Gambaremashita!", as the locals in this neck o'the woods would say)
Cheers and that is a good word 😀
Epic job - hard work for 2 people even with the right tools ❤
I think that is why I wanted a smaller foundation - afraid of concrete mixing 🤣
Well done I think tomorrow off is a good idea you may not be able to get out of bed though.😅😅
We had to go to Toulouse so I rested in the car driving 🤣
Your rebar wire tool make a little hook that fits in your cordless drill 👍🏽👍🏽
I did try this before, but I snapped more than I twisted. Must be cheap twists.
@HomesteadingUncontained or we'll just a thought that came to mind worth a go 👍🏽👍🏽
Well done guys great job
Cheers Tam ♥️
Omg . You guys are machines. That was one heck of a day or two . Good job. Lin said he feels your pain with the tennis elbow Ian. 😟😟
Yeah!, Arms and hands are feeling it. Concrete was all in one day.....never again until next time.
And so the great wall foundations of France begins 👍🏽👍🏽🤣
Tell me about it - I feel like I am in competition with my neighbour who is building a wall maze...it seems.
The results look great! Wonderful progress and that mixer definitely helped. Cheers from the USA ♥
Without that mixer it would have been 36 loads......I can't even think of that.
good job!
Cheers 😀

I think you are right, when we start the ICF I think I might have to invest.
Well done guys 😊
Cheers 😀
Impressed you continue to mix your own concrete - lots of faffing about vs calling the local mix plant and having it delivered.
The cost is excessive for 3 cube, about a 1000 euro where as mixing myself was around 300 euro. Plus I would have probably have had to hire in a pump at another 500 euro as the truck could not get down there.
Looks good and in one day well done .
Thanks 👍

Cheers Kevin - Julie's dad was the same for 60 years so we do get some tips. I do not like rebar plus it is all hidden in minutes.
@@HomesteadingUncontained That twizzler thing is cool but if we don't use Knipex end cutters to hand tie our wire, we'd get bullied mercilessly! lol
Good job guys!
Thanks George 😀

That works out with what we got in the end. Luckily I did not know this before we began as I might have just ordered a truck 🤣
Cheers guys 👍💪✌
Thanks Rob 😀
I use my Kubota to lift the trailer up
You guys are doing a great job
I did a little damage to the underside of the trailer - but I call it modifying to accommodate the skid. 🤣

It is horrid as you know you have to get it done that day.

Luckily our rebar is only 10mm which is a big difference when it comes to bending.
A small allan key in a power drill, on lowest torque setting, is the quick way to wind up your wire ties.
I did try this before, but I tended to snap more than I got right by hand.
Ian, how about a hole for a towing ball in the Skid steer bucket 😉
Did think about it but I just don't want to put a hole in my bucket at the moment.
Great work 👍 ,Why are you putting the missing steel rods in the soft concrete?
They will be drilled in to hard concrete when we come to put the blocks on.
Bra jobba guttene!!!
Thank you ☺️

Wheres your mask Ian? You were even sent some 😂
I know, it was in my pocket - I did try but believe me I was holding my breath for each bag. It was just too hot, grubbing and sweaty to put the mask on.
@HomesteadingUncontained 😂
That meal is a Pyrenees Egg McMuffin ... anyway, a man who calls himself "The Twizzler-Meister" shouldn't be picky about his food. Bahahahahaha
I was hoping for a bacon sarny 😬
Good job guys!
The concrete vaibraror how many watts is it on, maybe have to invest in one....?!
Rollup door on the garage, what brand is it?
Not sure - it was a cheap one from Amazon but seems to be very commonly used. Well worth it.
@HomesteadingUncontained garage rollup....? Have limited innerroof space and would like to find one like yours...?
@ it is from a local fabricator in Toulouse. They are called Toulousaine.
👍👍👍

I know, but believe me, I held my breath for when it went in. I did try the mask but it got grubby and annoying with that amount of work.
wouldnt it be easier to just move future house a bit away from this hill so you wouldnt need this supporting wall
I can't, there is a hidden boundary that I have adhere to - it is an agricultural boundary that I must be at least 3 metres away from with any building . 😬
Beau et intense travail, comme d'habitude !
Bravo, content de vous revoir bosser au terrain !
Merci, ça fait du bien d'être du côté de la maison maintenant. Nous avons même tout mesuré à nouveau.
why didn’t you use the tractor to move the trailer around?
Tractor is at our other field and the tow hitch had broken 😞
Good video thank you for posting, polite suggestion, when operating your Track Loader look what the bucket is doing , not at the leavers, you have had it while you should be able to manipulate the controls blind-folded.
Or just buy a decent machine…..
I am not looking at the controls but under the bucket - This little machine is easy to drive for sure. 😀
This is a great little machine, plus it was a gift 😀
