Victor French was a great actor, and Michael Landon, hec , what an instinct he had for understanding what the public needed and wanted. Wholesome clean family entertainment and always a lesson to be had. It started with Bonanza, which was so much more than just a western, Michael learnt his lessons well on Bonanza. He carried its moral ethos into Little House on the Prairie, and then Highway to Heaven. Michael did it all,.....acting writing producing and directing. He gave us some of the best television we have ever had and the likes of which we shall never see again. Thank you for this episode. R.I.P. Michael Landon and Victor French.
38:07 "You have to fight to make a difference in this world. You can't give up. Mark, all of us are responsible for the world around us, but please don't give up." One of the great sermonettes from this show. One of his daughters wrote a biography of Michael Landon. She started with a story that she was in a severe car accident. When she woke up after several days in a coma, she found her dad sitting beside her bed saying "fight, baby, fight" over and over again.
It's very true that we will never forget how Highway to Heaven makes us feel with every episode we watch. Such a spiritual and special programme, Michael Landon and Victor French will always have a special place in the hearts of all the people that loved this programme. RIP Michael and Victor always loved by you're fans ❤❤❤
Alyson Croft was remarkable. What a voice and what a face on that girl. I was suprised to learn that she was so young as she was when she played Wendy. Today she is a beautiful woman of 46 years.
Highway to Heaven is that one special TV show which shows character and superb directing and giving viewers a sense of what is really important in life: love and caring for each other’s and the importance of keeping the faith. Yes many young boys and girls on show but the themes and lessons learned apply to us all and are timeless.
again a very touching episode....and it feels sad that Michael Landon and Victor French.....died only 54 yyrs old...destiny...we can never change it..I also lost a niece at five years old....she was only ill for a day....my Sister Linda with 22....gone too soon....I will never forget them......still miss them.....Jonatthan and Mark......I bet you are now all in heaven.......God bless you Angels....RIP
That scene where Mark walks up to the car and sees the mother totally caught me off guard and Sarah died. My heart immediately went into knots. Also at the end Mark as Jonathan where he's been at and Jonathan responds I've been with Sarah in heaven. That was a great way to tie the episode up at the end knowing that Sarah's going to be okay.
One of the most memorable episodes for me. I was religious until about 27.. then atheist until 45.. Then spiritual at 47.. Life is a digital simulation and love and kindness matter 🤎☮️
Like Gordon I was a cop and trained tactical medic Lt when called to a girl that was down, no pulse not breathing. It was one of many only her eyes rolled back and she was getting worse with no positive response to defib or other actions so I used a pre cordial thump technique which was outlawed and she immediately recovered (ROSC) return of spontaneous circulation. Familiy were in tears of her coming back from being thought dead. Never give up, learn more and have faith.
Had the same thing happen to a co-worker. On the expressway..a guy cut him off. He turned right to avoid an accident. Hit a car...both people in that vehicle passed. A mother and a daughter. It ate at him... until he passed from brain cancer.
OMG!! I love this episode!! Victor French's acting is beyond superb!! You really feel his anger at God for directing him to the little town, I love how he growls, "You brought me here" You can also feel his grief as he's crying over Sarah's grave and begging God to "Bring her back!!" I shed a few tears myself during this one. Poor Jonathan, you can't stop a cop's instinct to help those in need.
At least in the end Mark does finally realize that Sarah's untimely end was not his fault; it wasn't on account of his being "nosy" at the amusement park while trying to help her,it was two other things: 1-the drunk driver and 2-Sarah wouldn't wear her seat belt as she and her parents were going home.
Can you imagine how much better these actors would have been if they had lived? Landon still would have made great shows and French most likely would have worked in them with his talent. What an incredible loss for the acting world that these actors are gone. I'm not entirely sure, but if French had lived there probably would have been more seasons. I know Landon was working on a newer show called "Us" before he took ill. RIP
I remember Victor French died first in 1989(i can remember seeing on the front cover of a tabloid at the time,"Michael Landon crushed as cancer strikes his highway to heaven co star," and then two years later Michael Landon got sick with cancer and subsequently died himself. Now they're both angels in heaven; may they both RIP.
stumbled upon this episode already half way through on some late night cable station last night....Oh, the memories! I grew up watching LHOTP mostly in reruns after school....Have seen every episode a hundred times...Watched a bit of Highway to Heaven when it originally aired, but only when no one else was watching TV, since we only had one in our house (I know, mid 80s and only One TV...dark ages) Watching the second half of this episode reminded me how much of an INcredible talent both Michael Landon and Victor French were...This episode in particular got me on so many levels...I moved to So Cal not far from the ranch where LHOTOP was filming in early 80s...spending part of my 'formative years', 8 yrs old to 14, living in LA suburbs and seeing this ep filmed at Knotts Berry Farm? Magic Mountain? brought back all the memories of going to those places many times during those years...And watching this ep was also a painful reminder of how my dad would mock and criticize Michael Landon anytime I was permitted to watch LHOTP or Highway to Heaven because he was 'too emotional' and ' a sissy'....needless to say, my dad was an incredibly harsh, emotionally distant dictatorial figure and watching Michael's shows allowed me to see a man who could be manly but express his emotions ...grateful for being able to see this show again

You can't replace Michael Landon and Victor French. They are one of a kind. There was a rumor that they are going to reboot Highway To Heaven. I hope they remain rumors and it is not happening. This is one of my most favorite episodes. I have the Complete Series on DVD. Mark blames himself over a death caused by a drunk driver and thinks if he delayed a lost girl by finding her mother later on. He tries to create his own heaven on earth but it didn't turn out like he planned.
I agree. A remake just wouldn't be the same without Michael Landon and Victor French. And, unfortunately, I doubt that such a show would be accepted by today's jaded society.
I was actually at Knotts Berry Farm when this episode was being made. They weren't entirely honest with me though, they told me they were filming a movie called, "Fun Fun Fun" and told me that the little girl was the star. It wasn't until the internet came about that I was finally able to find out what it really was. Wish I could have seen Michael Landon too, but I guess he remained indoors.
This is from 1985-1986, in fact I remember seeing this episode during its original broadcast. I was in high school at the time, and big into Highway to Heaven.
Ha ha... I'd have to think REALLY hard to figure out the exact year. I'm pretty sure it was summer time though. All I remember most is that we were going down the hill near the tower and she was coming up the hill. They were in the process of reopening the section of the park where the filming was being done, so she was likely done for the day and they were letting her have some fun. She was surrounded by several adults, maybe four or five. That's when I asked about it. Being a pre-teen child I fell for retort they gave me about the film name and grew up disappointed that I never heard of the movie "Fun Fun Fun" coming out. Took decades for me to find what it really was. Had I seen Michael Landon, I'm pretty sure I would have figured it out, but she wasn't with him at the time.
@socal rocks I saw that movie. This little girl wasn't in it. I'm pretty sure of who it is, her face is quite familiar to me on this matter and the age is just right. She was being escorted by three adults and had only recently reopened the section of the park where they had recently been filming. My best guess is that she wanted to go on the rides afterward. The location I saw her at was at the hill that goes up to the tower. I have been there in decades, so I don't know if the hill and tower is still there. As a kid, I kept waiting for the "Fun Fun Fun" movie to come out so I could see it, and figured I had been duped.
And as you probably know, Michael did Bonanza all thru the 60s and early 70s, all the way to the end when they were forced to cancel or end it due to Dan Blocker's recent death(Hoss on Bonanza, Michael's character Little Joe's brother.)
@@MrJamieMurph4141969 And Victor was in 5 episodes of Bonanza playing 4 different characters where him and Michael met. All his characters were sketchy and up to no good. LOL
Taking guilt for unintentionally killing someone is a terrible thing beyond belief. I remember a fatal accident that happened in our town right outside the market in the parking lot where a lady accidentaly reversed her car to leave not noticing a youngman passing behind the car. People said she almost lost her senses recreating the scenes. She lost touch with reality for a long while before she gained back her mentality. I never intended passing behind a car noticing its red taillights coz that would disturb the driver and taught my son to be considerate and never do that.
it funny as i was forced to watch this show, i just wanted to play video games cause we had only one tv, the lord works in misteryious ways, i love this show
No it isn't. It's a big conflict to what the Bible says about Christ spoke to the dead little daughter where their daughter died and yet Christ says to them. Take me to her now. And spoke the words to the child & she Rose up from death in her bed. Yet Make was given God's all power and yet Mark could not raise her from the grave. It's conflict to what's really real and not.
I used to watch this with my MAMAW. I HELPED CARRY HER TO HER GRAVE. I COULDN'T COMPREHEND WHY SHE DIED SHE WAS ALWAYS THERE MY WHOLE LIFE. I WATCHED HER DIE IN THE HOSPITAL. THEN I LOOKED AT HER IN THE COFFEN. WE CARRIED HER CASKET TO THE GRAVE. I WISH SHE WOULD COME BACK TO ME. SHE WAS MY BEST FRIEND.80 years young. ✝️🙏🕯️😢
Mark calls drunk drivers "the scum of the earth" (which they are) but if you remember the pilot episode, Mark's sister Leslie tells Jonathan she fears for him because he has drove drunk before and almost killed someone. Just an observation. But I love this show too much for words anyway!
It's very sad that no matter the scenario, the little girl still died. But least Mark saved a life from his unjust actions in rescuing the girl. That was kind of funny that the girl Mark had to save turned out to be like Nellie Olson...you wonder if Michael Landon at times inserted a few Little House moments in his Highway to Heaven show?
It's nice to think even when the unthinkable may happen, a child dying, and their life here is ended, that they are doing just fine elsewhere, and that we may see them again, along the way. Jackie Summers was a little girl aged 5 who was runover by her uncle in a tractor , she ran out from behind the school bus because that day she had to cross the road to meet her Mother at her aunts house. She still receives fresh flowers and plants throughout the year, 47 years later after this tragedy, her Mother later fell pregnant that year, and in the following year, had a daughter. She grew up and became a school teacher, locally. Jackies entire family forgave her uncle, and he too is now laid to rest. He was highly thought of in the village. How do l know any of this? She was the first girl, who kissed me during Postman's Knock, l felt special after this. And to learn at school the very next day she died, in a road accident was very, very sad....I was almost 6 , so could not attend the funeral, it was in her village (Studland), many years passed by, and l never forgot her, until one day l found her grave, l visit it for almost 20 years now, and see those fresh plants, and flowers laid to rest there, in all that time. And only last year, by chance l was visiting, and her aunt arrived at her grave, as l was there. I explained myself, and she told me all of the above . So l hope ,even though the unthinkable did happen almost 50 years ago, that Jackie is doing just fine, and that l may see here again, along the way.
The ways of The Almighty are perfect but we just can't understand it. The purpose of every human being is perfectly defined in 37:35 to 38:35. Jonathan said to Mark, G-d tries to tell us things but we don't want to listen or we don't care. We have free choice to make a difference in this world, WE CAN'T GIVE UP. We are all responsible for the word around us.
This episode is actually a pretty good way of explaining that, there might be thousands, perhaps millions of alternate realities (or parallel universes) with you in it. Each may be slightly different, but there are certain things/events that will remain constant
Imagine your job being to escort and help an angel on his sacred mission to help mankind. Sounds like job fulfilment to me .Ok maybe not so much on this episode .
I remember watching Smallville that Clark asked Jor El to give Lana back to him after she was killed, and while Jor El did rewrite the history and for Lana to live, the unfortunate give and take was Jonathan Kent wound up dying instead of Lana. I never forgot that, or the song played in Jonathan's funeral of 'I Grieve.'
I think Jonathan didn't want Mark to see it was Sarah or the fact that no matter what scenario played out, it was going to happen regardless and I think at first in watching this that Mark didn't want to go through the pain anymore and didn't bother wanting to save Wendy, without realizing how her life would've turned out by not meeting Mark. It is painful to see Mark going through a struggle like that, but he got another chance to save Wendy as he was supposed to--per the one child he couldn't have saved, he had to save the other child.
sometimes people have to see what things would have bean like had they not bean a part of life and that is what mark needed at that time. i think a lot of people seeing what other peoples lives would be like without them in it would do people a lot of good because it would let them see the effects that would accrue without their contributions to life.
AMAZING HOW NEAR THE END, THE FIRE IS RAGING, THE FIREMAN SAID IT'S TOO LATE & NOTHING CANE BE DONE, THE FIRE CONTINUES TO RAGE WHILE ANOTHER FIREMAN OPERATING THE HOSE WATERS DOWN THE ROOF BUT NONE GOING INTO THE WINDOWS TO FIGHT THE ACTUAL FIRE...
We didn't have this series in Italy but we had The House in the Prairie that, as a teenage rebel girl, I found totally unwatchable. Nowadays, I'm enjoying these pills of love and wisdom especially since I've been bed ridden for over a year. Source wanted me to face my demons and change my vibrational frequency before allowing me into Heaven. Christianity made me very judgemental, the war between good and evil is in our mind. We are all brothers and sisters even if sometimes we get completely absorbed into the human drama and forget who we truly are. A big hug and blessings to you all! 🤗🙏😊😘😁👀💖😉
O God I wish Highway to Heaven continued today and forever until the end of times.

He tries to create his own heaven on earth but it didn't turn out like he planned.
I agree. A remake just wouldn't be the same without Michael Landon and Victor French. And, unfortunately, I doubt that such a show would be accepted by today's jaded society.
Do any reboots work?
Touched by an Angel tried but didn't succeed in my opinion.
Oh hell nah!
Unless it was michael landon jr & victor french jr. then maybe? Both are still alive but getting old now.

Victor played in a lot of old western back in the 50 and 60’s......
LOL
Victor French also guest starred twice on Bonanza too.
Laquita Maxwell...have you seen a photo of Victor French's son Victor jnr??? Hes a dead ringer to his father!
OUTSTANDING
11:59 is such a sad, touching moment as the cop gives Mark an I'm afraid it's too late look, shaking his head in despair over Sarah's untimely end.
Beautiful ! This is probably the best one I've seen.
girl with the two ponytails n the curls i like that hairstyle
"All of us are responsible for the world around us."
it funny as i was forced to watch this show, i just wanted to play video games cause we had only one tv, the lord works in misteryious ways, i love this show
cp canadian don’t drink n drive a
They allowed Christian shows in socialist Canada?
What a beautiful episode!
Yeah.. true , how ironic. I was just thinking the same thing. Lol .. Also love the show R.I.P. Michael and Victor 👏👏👏💛❤
Shows how much Mark changed due to his time with Jonathan.
Yes! Certainly true!
i drove drunk. i hated myself for doing it. i hate that others do it. we are all hypocrites in one way or another.
Or maybe he was referring to himself too with that statement.
This episode was really heartbreaking.the actors are so good you forget theyre acting.
Great show.
We are the ones who choose to do or not do things.
It goes to show you, no one should try to play God.
Just Trust God knows Best, even if we don't understand.
Excellent series 💯 %
Mark gordon wears the same jacket an hat..😂😂
god doesn't give u what we want when you want. he is on time and doing things in His timing, not ours.
Amen!!
Yeah. And for the most part, he doesn't answer any at all.
😱 bring her back😭😭😭😭😭. 😱 Mark. Bring her back. Sobbing right now
I'm telling you man touched by an Angel is awesome but this is where they got the blueprint for it

WOOOW! What a heartbreaking and powerful story, thank you for sharing it!
Th best episode evr?
Victor french on that ride is hilarious!
Moral of the story!
Be careful what you wish for!
Imagine your job being to escort and help an angel on his sacred mission to help mankind. Sounds like job fulfilment to me .Ok maybe not so much on this episode .
Crow Rage If the angel were Michael Landon, I'd be first on line for the job! 😁
Wonderful episode we re given a choice. By god how to live in this world
💕💕 this TV show growing up and still look at.
Thank you.
This episode helps you understand that you don't own all the problems in the world. ..(.PHILOSOPHER ) AKA DAVID CASTANEDA
A beautiful show bit in this episode Mark indulges in needles self-pity.
AMAZING HOW NEAR THE END, THE FIRE IS RAGING, THE FIREMAN SAID IT'S
TOO LATE & NOTHING CANE BE DONE, THE FIRE CONTINUES TO RAGE WHILE
ANOTHER FIREMAN OPERATING THE HOSE WATERS DOWN THE ROOF BUT
NONE GOING INTO THE WINDOWS TO FIGHT THE ACTUAL FIRE...
It's even better that in the last scene Mark's clothes and hat are in perfect shape and weren't even damaged in the fire!
M G 😂tv show bro!😂
Pretty sure jonathan had something to do with that, keeping his partner safe despite mark’s mistreatment of him in this episode.
What I learned from Highway to Heaven.
Picking up random strangers is a good thing!
🤗🙏😊😘😁👀💖😉
Everyone who goes to heaven is alive))) For the God is not the God of the dead, but the God of alive ones.
