    Wife and I traded in our 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid towards the 2020 Ford Escape SE Sport Hybrid.
    Haven’t driven much, because of pandemic; just over 3100 miles.
    We love the car.
    Comfortable seats; nicely laid out controls; love the digital displays; good visibility overall; plenty of cargo space.
    I went to Loews and purchased 16 bags of fuel pellets for out heating stove. Easy for the Escape.
    0 - 60 from standing stop is not great, but more than adequate; passing ability is very good. And if you do want superior acceleration from a stop light, just put it in Sport mode.
    The electric operation is phenomenal; I’m averaging the advertised 40mpg.
    On back roads I average in the 50’s.
    The transition to/from ICE/Electric is almost seamless.
    Hybrid does not come with a spare tire. It goes in the back around the 12v battery. I bought one at Town Fair Tire.
    I think the SE Sport Hybrid is your best escape.

    We have been debating between a few smaller SUVs (that are above the "crossover" in terms of size). When my wife was in college, she bought a Ford Escape. She loved it. It has been the best car that she (and now "we") have ever had. In all of those years, she (we) has (have) only taken it to the shop twice (once for a tuneup and a single problem with the front steering gear replacement). We've replaced the tires twice (and it now has 200,000 miles). Even as old as it is now (17 years old), it still looks fantastic and drives well. With minimal maintenance (i.e., oil changes), it always passes smog tests in California.
    The crazy thing is that we are not looking to replace that old Ford Escape. We're looking to replace our other vehicle. We're considering the new Ford Escape, the Toyota RAV4 and one or two of the other similar vehicles. I was leaning toward the Toyota; however, my wife and I have had such a great experience with the Ford Escape that it seems like it is a better option.

      Chris M I own a 2030 SE Port Hybrid; very pleased with it. The RAV4 is getting great reviews. It appears you can’t go wrong whichever you choose.

    I would love to get the 2020 Ford Escape SE. It's one of the lower trims, but it's all I would ever need. I live in Colorado so I would need the AWD.

    Hmm, your scores should have been based on the option or trims (such as what engine when you assign your ratings) ??

    I love Lauren's take on seat comfort. I find that is essential and often overlooked in many other reviews. I'm average size but deal with a bad back and lack of lumbar is a deal breaker. I've based car buying decisions based on seat comfort. (I typically love Honda products but many of their cars have sub par seating . Our last CR-V and Insight were dreadful in that department) .
    I also that Ford's take on making the hybrid model as normal as possible is a smart move. The new Toyota Rav4 hybrid is probably the best in the Rav4 model line. The Escape Hybrid may be the right choice for most people.

    • @CarCoachReports
      @CarCoachReports  5 років тому

      I appreciate your perspective, I agree seating is critical. The car will never get more comfortable the longer you own it. Thanks for watching..

    • @timwoody3835
      @timwoody3835 3 роки тому

      @@CarCoachReports seating is probably more critical for me than you. I’m 6’-6” tall. My 2016 explorer will provide enough leg room, but the telescoping steering wheel doesn’t extend far enough causing my arms to be stretched straight. This causes me to move the seat forward a bit, which causes my legs to bend a bit and feel a bit close to the dash. Additionally the bend of my legs causes my thighs to be less supported. Driving long distances can become very uncomfortable.

  • @ronn9853

    I’m with Paul, black wheels are horrible.
    What did you think of the brakes? I’ve heard other reviewers comment that they are too grabby.
    If you had to buy, would you pick the hybrid or the traditional version?

    • @CarCoachReports
      @CarCoachReports  5 років тому +1

      The hybrid has better power.

    • @edlawrence6553
      @edlawrence6553 3 роки тому

      I was going to buy a Subaru Forrester, but when I learned there was a hybrid model, this owner of a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid traded it in for a 2020 SE Sport Hybrid. I bought it 12/18/2019. Here we are just over a year later and I still love the car.
      I agree-the black tires aren’t the most attractive, but I got the Persian Deep Green. People see it and go “Wow!”

      @@CarCoachReports We picked our 2020 Escape, with Titanium trim, Hybrid, and it is such an amazing thing to drive. We love it, and the dark Persian green looks amazing on this vehicle. The safety features on it are amazing. Stop and go adaptive cruise control, I was nervous trying to use it at first, but it works great! I'm looking forward to spending more time in this vehicle.

    Lauren... you sure you’re not talking about the 1.5L 3-cyl. turbo? Most 2.0L turbo 4s should have plenty of zip...

    • @CarCoachReports
      @CarCoachReports  5 років тому

      We can only drive what’s available to the media. They offered us the 2L Turbo and Hybrid engines options. We would have been thrilled to drive every motor option if they brought the cars to the drive event.

  • @pierrec.5516
    @pierrec.5516 5 років тому +3

    There are 2 different turbo engines available in the 2020 Ford Escape, one is a 3 cylinder 1.5L and the other is a 2L turbo 4 producing somewhere around 240 hp. I think you guys must have had the smaller engine. As for the vehicle, I think they did a good job except for the interior door panels and hard looking plastic
    Everywhere. I agree on the safety stuff, get it from the factory from the onset.

    I am considering the 2020 Escape and a Hyundai Kona. I presently drive a Chrysler 300M with 250 Hp and like good acceleration and I live in the southwest. Lauren, did you say that the Hybrid model had better acceleration than the 2L Turbo?

    • @CarCoachReports
      @CarCoachReports  5 років тому

      The hybrid version will be a better choice. Better acceleration and more torque off the line. The 2L was okay but needs more boost.

    Weird Question but what brand of luggage does Paul use? I've been seeing that nice brown leather duffel in the rear lately when you've been testing new vehicles and I love it!

    • @paulbrianvideo
      @paulbrianvideo 5 років тому

      I've had several "regular" luggage bags over the years and have come to love the Tumi expandable. It's big enough to use for a week in Yurrup (and I'm not shy on packing clothing changes) when expanded, and perfect for our normal 3-day trips. As for my "merse" I just looked at it (all over) and can't find a mfg label anywhere. It's butter soft leather and you're not the first to compliment it. Wish I could tell you who made it, but I bought it at Irv's Luggage near O'Hare. It caught my eye immediately, too, so I bought it right away. Maybe give them a call? Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance.

      @@paulbrianvideo I loved Irv's Luggage when I lived in the Chicago area. They steered me to a Briggs and Riley carry on when I started a weekly travel job. I trust their judgement.

    Nice review. I will have to see it in real life or see more video as I think the front look concept like, which doesn't seem to match the rear. Also, it reminds me of the Mazda CX-5 in its styling which certainly isn't a bad thing. Anyway, good job LFix and PBrian.

    Back reminds me of a Rav4, side is Mazda, and front reminds me of Kia/Porsche...
    Ford ditches Sedans and just starts throwing spaghetti at walls and see if it sticks with their new vehicle designs (minus sedans)

    I hate to think rental companies will offer this piece of junk as a compact. The looks are beyond disappointing. If you want to make it look feminine, look at Audi A5 or even Koreans. RAV-4 destroys it in looks and interior accommodation. As for that base volume engine, it is a joke. Garbage Ford, buy a RAV-4 my friends if you want a reliable car and look not like a joke. This is just a lifted Focus. Garbage.
