I'm just looking to get an ipad just for this. Do I need a wifi + cellular or can I simply use my phone as router for outside 4 cameras monitoring? Thanks
I've just tried that and yes, you can. You need to check "maximise compatibility" in the Wi-Fi hotspot settings otherwise the camera won't connect. I don't know why I haven't thought of that. Probably because I don't want my phone tied up during the shoot and the cellular connection can be a bit spotty. So if you're getting an iPad specifically for this, I would go for the cellular version. Just my 2 cents.
@@shagral Hi, I'm also considering grabbing an iPad with Wifi and Cellular, do you have to have a SIM card inserted to use the "hotspot part" of the iPad and multicam?
And I was looking at spending $$$ on a Hollyland for each of my three Sony cameras… no need for low latency… I just need ONE monitor to set stage and lights and NOT having to check each camera’s rig monitor.
The best constructive criticism I have heard about Sony, and there inability to make human interfaces. They have made them better (A7 series). But as you said, they need to get better UI engineers. Using a Blackmagic camera is way more intuitive, and a good experience, then using a Sony… but I need the Auto-Focus so, there is only one option…
For multicam to work all cameras need to be connected to the same (non-camera) network. You can't use wifi-tethering and hotspot at the same time on the iPad (that's why you need cellular), but as people pointed out in the comments, you can use your iPhone for wifi hotspot and connect all your devices to that.
Yesterday I was on a shoot and the Sony Monitor and camera app was kind of a nightmare, and I was just trying to use 1 camera (FX30) and my iPhone. Took me forever to get it connected but once I did it worked until I turned off my camera or closed my iPhone. When starting my camera back up it would always give the failed to connect to the camera warning and then I would have to fiddle for over 20 minutes trying to get it to connect again. Cannot remember what sort of worked but basically kept having to turn off bluetooth or remove the camera from the app other wise it would never pair even after pairing the first time before I shut the camera down? Any body have success getting it to work properly or what the exact way is to get it working and keep working automatically every time I want to use it or turn my camera off? Seems pretty useless if just turning the camera off makes this happen? Thanks !
That's exactly what I'm talking about in the video - the app is not ready for professional use. What little help I can offer you: make sure you have the absolute latest everything - camera firmware, app version, ios version. If at all possible, try having a separate device (ipad works best) that you don't turn off or fiddle with during the shoot.
@@shagral Thanks, I just have an older iPad and used my iPhone 14 pro max yesterday and have all the latest updates. I just want to use it so my assistant can press track focusing when I need it. I cannot believe it cannot remember the connection when Turning off my camera and back on. Such a simple thing. I guess I will have to give Monitor + a go again bc even though it loses connection sometimes it does automatically regain access with out fiddling with all the connections like wifi, etc etc every dang time. It is like I have to un pari and repair my FX30 every time , otherwise it never connects and get a failed waring check my camera settings etc etc... Totally bummed.
this app is GARBAGE. I want it to be great SO BAD, but the connection process is a NIGHTMARE. I have a cellular iPad 10th gen and it NEVER connects, it never finds access points and disconnects constantly. I want to use for weddings, but I can't spend 45 minutes to an hour setting this bullshit up. SO FRUSTRATING.
Do you mean the camera "never finds access points"? I have the Sony A1 and it worked great up to firmware 1.32 although others had reported Wi-Fi failures and BT error messages then I updated to Firmware 2.0 and The camera could not find any access points.Sony then pulled the firmware update from their site after a few hours and released Firmware 2.01 about 10 days later. My camera still couldn't connect. Many forums reported Wifi failures after these firmware updates but Sony was silent on this. Then came Firmware 2.02 and my camera reported Wifi failure and BT errors. The long and the short is I have just had the camera repaired which necessitated a complete mainboard replacement costing 980€ thats about 1065$ US. Basically Sony's firmware fried my Wi-fi. Its well documented on many Forums like reddit etc. I don't know which camera you are using but it affected several Sony models! My A1 was one of the first batch to arrive in Europe with the serial number 377*** which many users reported had this problem.

I have no way to test that, but my intuition says yes, you do.
@@shagralhi, where is this maximize compatibility Wi-Fi setting? Is this on the iPad, phone, or camera?
In Wi-Fi Hotspot settings on the iPhone
Thank you for taking the time to make this video and being honest about the faults of the app.
Thanks man 🙌🏻
On the FX30 I connected my iPad Pro directly to the camera without router

Yep, it's a perfectly good solution for that
Your ISO video is seriously THE BEST
Thank you! Not sure how that's related though 😅
@JeffBourke I thought it was funny :)
Sending a hug from Brazil. Thank you for the videos. I’ve already learned a lot from several of them
Happy to hear that!
Excellent video and absolutely spot on with the criticisms.
Thank you, glad you liked it.
deyyuum boii! this is a good af analysis. well done!
Thanks mate!
Can this do what capture one can for photos? So wirelessly display the photo as soon as it’s taken?

Agree! Thx for watching
I film 4 cameras multicam and would love to have a way to sync WB and Exposure... that would be enough for me even without any monitoring at all
Yes that would be very useful
That works with the panasonic s1h and s5 ii x
Why do you need cellular? because you can't use the network that the cameras make as you can't connect to all four at once?

Possible to use TouchOSC and program them to do it?
I have no idea what that even is
so why is it working only on ipads? its like, i need to buy apple devices to get that feature
That's the reality for most, if not all apps for creatives. They all are either iOS only or iOS first.

Yep. I use it for filming myself but I'd be too scared to set it up in front of a client. It's a mess
