Just in case you didn't know. You can mark your wood for length with a small crow's foot. Then set your speed square somewhat close to that mark. Set your saw at the length mark and move the speed to where it buts up to the saw and the strait edge of the board. In other words, use the speed square as saw guide. once you get used to it, it will speed the work up. keep up the great work. I enjoy your videos.
i have that dust collector and if you use it for the mill it will clog up fast most likely. i had issues just useing it for the table saw and planner. I hope t works for you.. mine now is just sitting covered with a tarp behide the shed. sway bracing and girts.
I call them purlins also, the metal siding really strengthens the building, sawdust blower? Keep the great videos coming Jeff and Jill from the Alaska Wood Yard.
Girts or purlins, either way. Any diagonal bracing or sheathing or tin you install will definitely increase the lateral sheer. Gonna be way more ridged. 👍
Looks like they would have made cutting precleaner kick in before the blade enters the log and stay cleaning until blade leaves the log....but sure like the new mill
Hi Tyler & Britney, can you explain the different buildings around the Sawmill? There looks to be a few other houses around the site, how does it all work? Happy New Year from us here in Ireland
I think your plan for the kiln and 4 edge planer are a very positive step into making your sawmill more profit . Your potential customer base could expand 20 fold
I live on the Mississippi coast and worry about cooling a building instead of heating it. I would come down no lower than 3 ft just to keep rain from blowing in. If you want to stay warm get a butane heater and a 110 volt 7000 but air conditioner for the summer. I see enclosing the building as unnecessary. Have fun and stay safe!
Purlin, Girt, or Rail. Diagonal brace or Diagonal. Depends on who you ask. And you are correct, adding siding will help brace the structure some, but the diagonals are the ticket for strong wind
Good video 👍 Looking forward to seeing the finished look. I always hate working in the rain, during the summer it's not too bad, but in the winter it sucks.
Shane is very proud 22:21 of you both for upgrading your sawmill building!! The roof beam splices should also be sandwiched with 1/2 “ plywood 24”x10” pieces each side . And stop using nails in shear to support load!! If you do you need a tight under cripple under shear nailed structural load bearing members.
How about building a railroad car and a few feet of track to load your kien and all you have to do is push and pull the car into the kien with your tractor but make the car a center beam down the center to stack the lumber against you can saw scrap wood for spacers Build the car out of oak with two wheel trucks on bearing you push and pull it out of the kien with the tractor You can saw and build the stack as you wait for it to dry out You could use motor car wheels to do this just ties sawed on the saw mill could be interesting I think your project
Hi Tyler and Brittany, what you need to do is make a shed big enough to put your tractors under cover rather than have them sitting out in the weather, cheers guys xxxxxx
I love how your new Mill operates. It is smooth and fast. I think extending and closing the end of your Shed in, will make your work area more comfortable to work in. It will be dark so you may have to consider some LED flood lights 🇨🇦
Good timing on diagonal bracing, I saw where you guys may have some stormy weather down your way. New mill looks to be doing great. Purlins typically go between structural members.
Horizontals can be called purlins (as you said), or ribbons or stringers. The diagonal brace might be called a knee. The refit is going well. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
The 35 gal dust collector looks pretty small for your operation=1 large log will fill 1 bag. . .,,letting it fly thru the wall sounds good if the fan will throw it far enough//good luck
According to my information steel gas cans are safer compared to plastic, the reason being that if the fuel accidentally ignites inside of the container, a steel gas can is less likely to rupture and explode sending fuel everywhere. Plastic cans may be better for storing diesel. As a youngster I recall an acquaintance of mine appearing one day with his eyebrows missing after one such incident.
I have been following your videos for quite some time and I enjoy them very much. I decided to get braver and make a post. Are you going to need lighting once the sides are on? Replace some of the roofing tin with see through corrugated plexiglass?
Yep, the "government agency" that mandated the new & improved (🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️) safety fuel cans/spouts should be shut down!! Those new cans are from the pit of hades!! They have to be modified to work. "Old School" cans with vents & free flow spouts are the only way to go!! 👍🏼 I really enjoy your videos!! Y'all take care... hope you had a great Christmas & have a fantastic New Year!! 👍🏼🙏🏼💜

I REALLY ENJOY THE WAY A MAN AND WIFE WORK SO WELL TOGETHER!
It's a farmer thing

I believe the frame for your old dust removal system.
Another great video guys! Happy New Year!! 👍🏻
Thanks same to you!
The angled pieces are called kickers
Angle brace and Girts were the words you were searching for. 👍
Really excited to see y’all’s 2025 plans come to life. One of my favorite channels. 🔥
I’d say the box hanging from the ceiling was a time out area for your boy..😂 we call the 2x6’s banding in southern MO

Good work and looking lovely lady ❤️
I call them purlins also, the metal siding really strengthens the building, sawdust blower? Keep the great videos coming Jeff and Jill from the Alaska Wood Yard.
Great being able to see some of the progress you’re making at Wallace Farm & Sawmill. Happy and prosperous New Year 🙂👍
Thank you so much! You too!
Semi old school real old school would not be white gas. You guys are great. Thank you for sharing.👍
G'day from🇦🇺 Pickin up What you Putting Down 😊
Purlins on top girts on the sides. Have a Happy New Year!!
Your modifications we very well engineered...Continue to keep me amazed
Girts or purlins, either way. Any diagonal bracing or sheathing or tin you install will definitely increase the lateral sheer. Gonna be way more ridged. 👍
I thought so!
I wish you were doing g like you did on the horse barn.
Wood siding is so much more in tune with what you do.
Hi from Alabama love your videos
You can save a lot of money bay doing what your doing
Angle Bracing.
Looks like they would have made cutting precleaner kick in before the blade enters the log and stay cleaning until blade leaves the log....but sure like the new mill
Are you thinking about adding pull back fingers? Should would help out the swamper.
I think that wood frame do-hicky up above is for storing an cold beer keg during summer months.
God bless both of you and may he protect both of you 😂
Think youve made good business decisions for your future growth

That is definitely the goal!
Is it a "fan box",up in the trusses?
a harbor freight winch was up there to turn logs
Keep learning and building.
That is the goal!

Going to have mych stabler building
Does the debarker make that much difference in the blade life?
We love you folks videos, but sometimes it's hard to hear you. I would like for you to wear a microphone. Great team work you folks are.
You had a Turn log Winch,

Agreed!

Adding a cripple. I seen that today and thought, you know, a board under here would sure help hold it up!

Lights are definitely in the plans!

I think you have the right idea!
I like your little short handled peavey.
Wood handled and 24” best one you can get hands down.
Yes they are both called purlins

Fly brace, Your steel sheeting will increase the the stability of your roof 👍
a forsener bit bigger than the washer drills a nice countersink hole then predrill for the lags that's what I do looks nicer to
Great show from Venice CA

You can use your new square to back your skil saw crosscuts.
I would call them lath boards. Lath boards are used on the roof of barns to nail the tin to.
Thats what I usually call them!
@@wallacefarmandsawmill wait till you are 72 years old, its worse lol
A vacuum moter for blower system.😊😊😊😊😊
I believe it was the wench lift for flipping logs for the circlure saw.
I would say that frame work hanging from the ceiling was were your previous vac was installed
Correct!
Yep! That's where the old dust collector was hanging from.
The word you were looking for is rafters.
Actually, I miss understood what you were pointing to. The ones overhead are the rafters, the ones you put in, you had the correct name for. Gerts
If you find something you want after Christmas you can get a huge discount on it . I bought a bunch of Christmas lights one year for 1/2 price
You will just have to take your pick from below what you want to call the horizontal boards!! LOL
I believe that box frame was a heat of sort.
A blower motor in the old box?
The 35 gal dust collector looks pretty small for your operation=1 large log will fill 1 bag. . .,,letting it fly thru the wall sounds good if the fan will throw it far enough//good luck
They are also called perlins on the walls.
side wall nailers are called Girts
Who cares about the terms their doing a great job with their building don't need any Karen s
Hi those things are called girts.
THANKS!
You're welcome!
Yall had a sawdust blower in the box up on the roof
How about solor for lights in the building
What was or is the cost of the sawmill you have now
You may want to consider putting in some translucent panels on your side wall.

Both great ideas. We planned on lighting, however I didn’t think about some corrugated plexiglass!
Tyler, you're referring to Girts. The horizonal boards to which you attach the siding.
Yep!
Good job
Needs to be strong before you put the back wall up. I made the mistake and high winds blew my whole roof off.
air compressor now you gonna need a big fan in summer
Enjoy all of your videos. Will you be removing the tires from the mill?
Cross Brace
Called post brace
Is that your old blower system?
they are called girts
I spotted an old IH power unit when you was gathering logs. 👀
Ud14 international! Good eye. Starts in gas, runs on diesel.
Dang got to close to tv at sign off now I have a black eye😅
Hahahahhahahaha
They are called lathe that you put tin on.
Lath

Thanks so much! Agreed on the cans!
Non-vented fuel cans were the idea of liberals writing regulations. Reckon they had nothing constructive to do.
Purlings 😀
Not purling on the side they are battons
A squirrel cage fan
Won’t the tin make it awful hot in the Summer! Happy New Year🎉
Why is the roof so high?
Hey y`all check with the chicken farmer sand see how much they are paying for sawdust to go in their chicken houses
