Premium Block on a Budget

- The Lockman Foundation has made a couple genius moves when it comes to their bible layouts. First is they worked with Schuyler to be able to print their own version of a budget Stridon in the NASB 2020. But, in an even more intelligent move, they re-released the NASB 1995 LPUT with their premium bible paper to make what was for a long time only available in high quality paper in the Allan Reader.
This was smart for a couple reasons. 1, those that always wanted to see the hype behind the Allan Reader layout can see it for under $40. But even more, those like myself who love rebinds, can now save around $200 because we can buy the budget version. In this video I compare the two, and show you, there is virtually no difference when it comes to the reading experience. You can pick one up at the link below!

I recently purchased this exact Bible in brown leather, and it is fantastic! It does not have the blue page edges, but gold, and the layout is that fantastic classic center column design. This is now my carry around Bible - although it is fairly large, it is thin enough to ride in a laptop case. In this Bible I just add a brief 2-3 word note or underline, and I use my side column NASB (Also from Lockman) as my main study Bible. It is also fantastic! Getting back to above... So I don't feel like I'm moving around a dictionary sized rock - like so many of the Bibles these days. Just today this bible slid off my dashboard and landed under my feet while driving. Yet, because of the high quality leather, in the end it was unharmed after a light wipe down. Lockman is really doing a great job. I am so thankful for the NASB 1995. I just wish they would do exactly the same with the 1977 - I would buy it in a heartbeat!
Thank you for the valuable information. I just ordered the NASB 1995 LPUT.
These Bibles are just so beautiful! Also a great translation!
Lockman makes the best synthetic Bibles. My large print thinline has endured a beating.
This is awesome. Thank you, Tim
I love that Allan Rebind (your friends), it looks great 😁
WOW that Korea paper on the new Lockman Bible is fantastic !
Thank you Mr. Tim, I really appreciate you🙏🏻
Enjoy all the new lockman versions with the synthetic paste down. It’s makes me want to avoid other mfg with paper paste down.
I’ll be honest with you. I wanted to try out the NASB 2020 so I got the single column Lockman for like $30 and it has better, thicker paper than my Schuyler. I bought the cheap one to see if I would like it and I enjoy it more than the Schuyler!!!
AWESOME!! Ordered!! Thank you!!👍🏼📖
That is wonderful news. I've always felt that you shouldn't have to spend hundreds of dollars just to have a good Bible that lasts. I think a synthetic leather Bible would last as long as a Premium Bible if you take good care of it, and they look just as good. It would be good if they had the art gilding, and who knows? Maybe someday in the not too distant future they will. I believe it is possible.
That's excellent Tim, thank you. Yes a premium Bible with leather is a preference. I do see what a great Bible lochman has made. Does the Allan have words of Christ in black or red? I will have to re-watch but was the Schyler single column. We all the love the Word of God yet the look & feel of a premium Bible does encourage me to read more. After all your reviews for over a year I know I love leather (only have 1 premium so far) drop caps are a plus, to sit & read I like a single column & the Words of Christ in red or blue. Thanks again.
Allan NASB Reader is a black letter.
@@anickelsworthbiblereviewsI looked at their website & I may be wrong but also says genuine leather only 20$ more.
I think Allan doesn't do red letter, at least they don't on their KJVs.
Its the same page layout lockman has used for more than 10 years. I have an older 95 LPUT from around 2010 and its the same page layout as the new one and my allan reader.
Right. I mentioned this was something I had never noticed before. I’m sure there are hundreds of others that haven’t either. Also their more recent editions had poor paper and I believe not as dark print.
@anickelsworthbiblereviews the older ones definitely used cheaper paper that the nice blue tint in the gutter. It was charming if a bit different.
I actually liked the blue tint too, but man, folks went bat crazy over it.
So much for not buying any more Bibles this year! Thanks, Nichols! 😡🤣

Can you post the link to the Stridon version?
Didn’t even think about that.
Looks like they raised the price to $46.

Yo thats fire
Great video Tim and nice rebinds (yours). But I’ll say the Allan readers are *REALLY* nice. I got the Stridon clone cuz you raved about the block but the leather Tex is decidedly meh.
Ha ha. I raved about the block, not the cover. There’s a reason I got a new cover for it.
Tim, great video! Does Nelson make anything comparable to the Schuyler Stridon?
Not really. The closest thing is the NKJV Single Column Verse by Verse with references on the inside column.
Do you know which archival JV used on your LPUT? I really wish those LPUTs were available with silver gilding. Those LPUTs are incredible, especially at their price point. 👍
I can't remember what the color was.
Does it have the Flapp around the edges???
@@inspiredfaith1966 the yapp? No the standard LeatherTex does not have the extra material on the edges.
Do you know of any cheap Bibles that have a large yapp??
Not really. That’s not a really a cheap Bible feature.
I went to the link and it is 36.99 and shipping for leathersoft black..do they have the blue gilding? photo shows gold? Also what are the dimensions thanks
I mentioned in the video I had the blue art gilding added to mimic the Allan. So it’s not included. It’s a standard size Bible in the 9.25 by 6.5.
I'm a King James guy but I respect Lockman for keeping their older NASBs in print. Shoutout to Lockman for that nice paper and good price.
I wish Zondervan did that
@jimyoung9262 I agree and do it in single column
As it should be! There is no reason to be spending hundreds of dollars on a Bible. You can find one even for $1.25 at the Dollar Store.
You'll get your 5 quarters worth with that there purchase.
@Yesica1993 I understand the sentiment, but there are many reasons to get a well built bible.
Love the videos Tim. You’re doing a great work.
One question though. Do you think maybe it’s time to lay off the Schuyler critiques? It’s starting to feel like a petty grudge.
What was the critique? That I like the paper better?
Maybe I’m wrong but poking at the Stridon didn’t seem necessary for this video. Not trying to pick a fight. Love your videos. I just don’t want it to damage your overall mission by poking at them too much.
@@joshuagarza0623 absolutely not. Their quality is going down and their prices sure aren’t going down. They need to step it up like they used to.
