The company should give at least 50% refund because half of the things didn't work properly and were fire or health hazard. Electric car catching on fire is much harder to put out than fossil fuel ones. Electrocuting customer is not ideal either. With such careless mistakes bad thing could've happen not to mention the kit didn't work as sold.
Im really impressed you stuck with this project to the very end, it was not easy to figure out all the complex EV issues without support, good on you ! The customer struck gold, and the MGA is now super awesome. nice.
big congrats. was this the first drive of a customer car for the new business? sounds like a good time to start whatever traditions you want to have. for example, maybe a still picture of the first drive of each vehicle and start a photo wall.
Jeremy, that has to feel good! You had no shortage of crazy problems to overcome, and you pulled it off. Watching you bend the pedals reminded me of building my Factory Five Cobra replica. The owners forum had a "pedal bender" that worked incredibly well to make those adjustments for folks who don't have a lift or hydraulic press. Mine are at the perfect angle now. Your recap of all the issues with the kit was great, and reminded me I need to order an IR camera before I start my build. I've enjoyed your videos a ton and look forward to new content on the 300Z and the Porsche. Congrats again on a job exceedingly well done, and I hope there is a follow-up video once the customer finishes the restoration work!
Wow that was a real challenge, I'm glad you have the perseverence to track down all the issues with that wiring harness kit and make it right. Great job!
The level of support from a parts supplier makes all the difference. Most products have some sort of issue once in a while. Sometimes it's an actual product or documentation issue, sometimes it's just a wiring error that didn't get hooked up per the documentation, and having support from the supplier makes all the difference. I can resolve 3-5 issues with good support in less time it takes to resolve just 1 issue from a supplier that has poor or no support. Excellent job working through all of the challenges. Congratulations, you are now the resident expert on that system....
I’m mad your page hasn’t blown up man. You do some really hard work and this series was amazing to watch! Been watching since the conversion you did for Zack. I watch your videos even through the sponsor ads just to help get your watch time up 😆
Congrats on this milestone! Thanks to guys like you doing good work shining the cold light of day on product quality so that the rest of us planning EV conversions can avoid the pitfalls! (And if Electric GT is the same company bought out by TREMEC last year, who is in turn owned by a parent company making billions, hopefully they have a mature enough customer service model to understand that throwing a pittance back to the customer for some pretty serious mistakes is sooo much better ROI than digging in and being difficult.)
It would be nice if at some point in the future you could bring back the MGA after the restoration for the viewers to see "the final" product! Great job on the car!
You share what you learn (both successful and lessons) and that makes me a fan of your work and channel. I’d like to see what else you’re up to, but think it is distracting for viewers that only want electric cars.. do what makes sense for the business and your life!
Swear jar clips for the win! Such a positive ending to a very trying build, that jar may have filled a time or two. Great to see this project cross the finish line, Jeremy. Curious to see what is left for the MG-A and what is on the horizon for you.
Very cool. You should post an errata sheet for the issues you saw with the wiring diagram. It will be interesting when the bits become standardized. The BMS, program tables, battery chemistry, cabling, connectors and pin outs should all be plug and play. You should be able to define your requirements and it should print out a parts list. When you plug the battery pack in it should be autodetected by the BMS for all its requisite parameters: Voltage, Ampacity, configuration, temperature sensors (and safe charge, discharge and operating temp ranges), Pack Voltage Minimum and Maximum, Pack Ampacity Minimum and Maximum Charge and Discharge rates (6C etc), current SOC, current amperage being consumed (both directions), cell voltages and so on. This is 100% doable. Standardization is what drives economies. And with this sort of plug and play lets say four years from now a new solid state chemistry battery comes out. You swap it in - it informs the BMS of its parameters and off you go.
That car is beautiful! Glad you got it running. I'm sure the customer is getting his money's worth from you, even though he may not have from the kit vendor.
I know UA-camrs don’t like to talk costs, but can you give a rough idea of what converting the sports car costs to go electric? Should I even consider doing this to an old car I have?
If you buy a damaged or used EV/Hybrid you can get a lot of the components you need really cheaply. But if you factor in your labour costs it's not worth doing.
Okay, I’ve been obsessing over this topic for about 3 months. A hyper 9 kit with battery is about $8k-$12k , Tesla LDU with battery about $12k-$25k depending. Salvaged leaf kit about $6k-$10k. First price is you source and do everything, second price is a full kit found online with all the stuff. (You still do the work). Plaid dual motor would be somewhere around $30k-$50k because you’d need to buy a aftermarket inverter and they’re like $10k for the power you’d need.
Great job getting it all worked out. Been following the whole MGA project, its been a nightmare for sure. Here's to getting something from the company, even if its not equal to what you put in. #Vatrer #Vatrergiveaways
I like that you are unafraid to show us when a mistake is made like the reservoir because sure as the sunrise we are going to be making mistakes as well. I recommend some gravity feed down hill drain cocks to allow you to gravity fill much of the system. (Lexus does this as well as others for engine coolant)
Your tenacious approach to the problems encountered freed up your customer from the disappointment of an incomplete project. Way to stick to it! #vatrer #vatrerpower
I think the location of the transmission on the left is because it´s an english car. If your steering is on the right side, your footspace will be much better.
I think the company should pay you for the R&D that you put in to correct all these issue. It could save them a huge lawsuit over a car that burns down due to their component choices and bad wiring diagram.
Congrats Jeremy on finishing the MGA! It was fun to follow along with you. FYI, the vatrer website link in your pinned comment returns a 404. #Vatrer #Vatrergiveaways
@@ElectricSuperCar I received an email from UA-cam as follows. Is this accurate? @electricsupercar2 The segments from UA-cam were related with the giveaway. You ended up being the victor!!
Don't twist the strands of heavy guage wire before inserting them into terminals The opposite is actually warranted to minimize the development of a loose connection due to strands jockying around thermal cycling and vibration You should shake the wire while you slowly tighten the terminal to cause the jockying to remove all of the extra space The diameter of Stranded wire decrease as the strands unwind leading to a loose connection
I enjoyed that series. Would you mind sharing how many hours you think you had into that conversion. How many miles will you drive it to verify systems before handing it over? I've done many car restorations and had a thousand mile policy over a month period before I turned over a car. I made each vehicle my daily driver to work through any little issue that might arise. Took me, years to get to that idea and a lot of headaches.
This one is a little different, as the customer has quite a bit left to go (e.g. seats, seatbelts, etc.) in order to finish. The customer just wanted the electric stuff handled.
Congratualtions on this success! Honestly...I envy its owner. I would try to drive the wheels out of at every turn. Beautiful! (Ah... It CAN'T be an old British car without...at least one oil leak, can it? Even if it's just the gearbox...🤣🤣)
great succes!! I'm jealous of your skills and perseverance! I could probably buy an EV with the content of my swear bucket alone. I would love to see the MG line up against your blue supercar :).
Congrats on getting it done. That installation was a nightmare. Converting a gas car to electric was hard enough, I don’t know how you were able to trouble shoot when the wiring diagram was wrong. In essence, the company used you like a guinea pig / RD and hopefully have a better product because of you. At the least, everything should have been free. They could have been in many lawsuits with the product they were selling. Congrats again!
29:00 an externally economized contactor without economized control is a headache but some kind of catastrophic failure other than the failure of the contactor actuator itself is a stretch... it's not like it would cause an out of control electrical fire... If the person buying everything knew what they were buying and it was all alleged to be compatible but wasn't, then the supplier should make it right... but if the buyer bought items in error, SOL.
I really hope the company does the right thing and gives some money back (or all of it). You hold to the belief that everyone makes mistakes and that it is human nature. I agree 100%. You're also supposed to correct your mistakes. Unless the customer got some discount or otherwise agreed to buy the kit as is with no guarantee of functionality, they have an obligation to give money back. Pretty sure the customer could sue the company for selling dangerous equipment like that. Wrongful death and/or dismemberment is much more expensive. They should be PAYING you money for QAing their kit.

Totally agree, they should be paying you for saving them millions in liability law suits for the customer they could have killed.
Less about half being wrong and more about reimbursement for paying for outside r&d time
Have just binge watched the MGA series of vids. Very useful guide to the complexity of such a project. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
You’re a pioneer. I usually wait for others to find solutions. You’re here finding the solutions yourself.
Thanks for the comment!
One of the best episode ❤
