I've avoided constipation after my surgery by eating split pea soup, oatmeal cooked with extra water, sweetened with prunes, pasta cooked 12 minutes instead of 10, basically soft food that will not form a dense compact mass in the gut.

GREAT results with the recovery process! I'm going to remember to be more diligent with the ice pack in the future. I admit that I drop the ball with that out of laziness or being too tired to move. Mostly laziness - once the pain starts to subside, LOL. This has been interesting to follow! I'm certain this will help patients looking for hernia videos. Keep being good with the healing process & you'll be back racing!

Can you make a video on how you chose your second surgeon after your first hernia failed and what was different about this new surgeon that made you feel confident in going with him .

I am having my surgery soon and after looking at every opinion out there I am leaning at having it done openly. Thanks for all the great info you have put out....

Thanks for the info. So great to hear how well the open repair went. I am getting ready to have open repair for my right inguinal hernia as my friends swear by it. I’m terrified as this will be my first surgery ever(58 years old) but I actually feel so much better mentally because of your videos. I feel like I should use your dr now! Are you in ny? Thanks again

I was told my inguinal hernia doesn’t need to be repaired until I’m likely in my 50s unless I experience pain but that surgery will probably be necessary in the future. I look forward to hearing about your recovery for future reference as well as any advice. My hernia is on the left side and appears more prominent if I cough and hold in breath. Thanks for sharing.

I had an inguinal hernia for 8 years, and then it suddenly became incarcerated, such that it would not go back in. Getting surgery became urgent, and I basically went with the first surgeon who seemed competent, with whatever procedure he thought best, which was open plug and patch repair with polypropylene mesh. So if you want to explore various options as to the method of repair and which surgeon to do the operation, the route to take is elective surgery, before it becomes urgent.

My surgeon recommends open mesh for my mild hernia. I don’t feel I should put it off too long as these things don’t get better with time. This is the third video of yours I’ve watched since your first hernia procedure. I’m truly grateful to you for sharing your experience, and wish you a speedy ( and permanent) recovery.

Thank you for sharing your journey to recovery with us! I'm one week post laparoscopic right side inguinal hernia surgery and still feel tension up that side. Would this be considered normal in your experience?

I do not know if I was catheterized during this procedure. I definitely was for my robotic procedure.
