      Because there is high chance that corrupt politicians in the rural area will take advantage of it and vote themselves to power. In the Case of physical voting booth you have military personal and police accompanying who make sure nothing shady happens. I am not saying no shady things happen in voting booth but if something do happen anyone including the opposing party can file a complaint with proof and anyone including military personal, police or election officers whoever allowed the shady thing will be fired and jailed.       That's only reserved for the people who are on the election, include army personnel, journalists etc....

      It won't work in India even if everyone have mobile phone because election commission will never allow as corrupt politicians can take advantage of it. Imagine the corrupt politicians threatens people to vote for him or he give money to people and take there phone away to vote himself.

It is also the country with the highest digital payments and most Indians pay electronically for even the smallest of transactions, such as buying groceries.
