fun facts: Han Tyumi is an anagram for Humanity. this is from the album Murder Of The Universe, which consists if three, long suites... this is the third/ladt on the album they released 5 albums in 2017, this was the 2nd of the 5. this song FUCKING RULES and is amazing live!!
I was so looking forward to this one 😂 The guitarist you like is Joey Walker A cyborg is part human, part machine, a robot is all machine Fear of vomiting is emetophobia
This is your first experience of a full Suite of songs from a GIzz Album. This was actually 6 songs all tying together the tale of Han Tyumi and the Murder of the Universe. This is defintiely the 'weirdest' King Gizz has gotten IMO, but it definitely speaks to watning something so bad that there can be unintended consequences like making self replicating vomit that murders the universe. The next suite/video you get to review is Lord of Lightning vs the Balrog, and its just as conceptual but far more "rock" focused. The following song "Invisible Face" is actually from Nonagon Infinity (Robot Stop, Gamma Knife, People Vultures album) but ties in well with people vultures in MotU. Starts to really dig into how interconnected the songs and albums are and was where a lot of fans got into the "gizzverse" as it were
Album 10, and the second album of 2017, is "Murder of the Universe!" It consists of 3 narrated loosely connected psych rock short stories with a bunch of lore to dive into if that's your thing. Its got some of the heaviest stuff they've done prior to their first metal record later down the line, and its got a massive cult following in the community. This is definitely a weird one, and a favorite for a lot of diehard fans. This video is the entirety of the third story on the album. Here's what Stu has to say: "I don’t usually play favourites, but I think this is my favourite Gizz record. Mostly because it’s the stupidest and ugliest thing we’ve ever done. I knew this record would be liked by some and loathed by many. I didn’t mind - this was the music I’d been hearing in my head that no one had made yet. I hope one day we make something stupider and uglier, but ‘till then… you’ve got MOTU. Love, Stu"
Nonagon Infinity was the album that got me into KG, Murder of the Universe was the album that convinced me to follow them into Hell if they asked me to (and they since have). MOTU is still the top most listened-to album of all time on my iPod from back when I was a pizza delivery driver and would just play it on repeat night after night. If you can count rhythm, the first suite does some really playful compound meter stuff stretching out a single motif through four nearly identical songs that go from 7/8 to 9/8 to 11/8 to 13/8 in sequence if I recall correctly. I remember counting it all out one time in 2017 while I was driving around and having a huge "oh my fucking god this is satisfying" moment that I haven't quite gotten from any other KG album.
I love this reaction. Going from "this is the best I've heard from them" to "WTF am I hearing" in less than 15 minutes. Still one of my favorite snippets from the discography even though I don't listen to it often.
Han-Tyumi is the robot from robot stop. Also the robot on the cover of fishing for fishies. They don’t just make concept albums their entire discography is a concept connected together. Just keep that in mind. It’s far out lmao it’s just goofy and not meant to be taken that seriously but the instrumentals are always so badass
I think my favorite part of people finding King Gizzard for the first time, is seeing their reaction when they go from the Old KG to the New KG. It's a major journey that just continues to get better. Wait until you hit Silver Cord, dear lord lol Murder of the Universe is one of their masterpiece albums. A concept album that absolutely succeeded in its purpose.
Saw this at forest hills this summer led into the closer of Am I in Heaven. Some of the best 30 minutes of music I’ve seen and heard live. The audience was so into it. This is from a very long metal album that’s about 1/3 narrated by a woman. Some of the songs are bangers. Not my favorite album but I do love the Han thump suite. I’ve thrown too much.
I'm so happy that you got to experience han-tiumi and the murder of the universe you now know that nonagon Infinity opens the door. Next, you need to experience the Lord of lightning and the bellrog
HELL YEAH. My first album. And the first I got as a cd. I love it but I know it’s not for everyone. I listened to altered beast and never felt pure insanity lust and horror described in a song like this. This one feels similar in those themes. But I never watched or listened to anything that took on the themes of wanting to destroy yourself and others in such an obsessive way. The music isn’t nearly as dark as the lyrics and people have issues with the spoken word, but I adore what they put together here. Chills every time
The Gizzy boys did an incredible acoustic performance of this song suite. One would not think it possible, and the unexpectedness of it would be almost comedic except for their sheer virtuosity and skill. All I can say is, be patient with the artsy noodling because the volume of experimentation pays off. Dragon was on their 23rd(?) album; you're only halfway there. And as with other reactors who take on the Gizzverse, expect them to release two more albums before you're done 😂
From their website: "I don’t usually play favourites, but I think this is my favourite Gizz record. Mostly because it’s the stupidest and ugliest thing we’ve ever done. It's not ideal to pick a strict lane with King Gizzard, not even chronological, you should find something that you like and dive in there, disappointing see that you skipped the entire microtonal banana album, Rattlesnake was more of a intro. The KEXP videos are great, better than most of the official music videos.
Yeah going from Rattlesnake to this seems like a big jump, but Rattlesnake was the only official video from that album for some reason, which means the importance of the impact that the microtonal stuff had at the time is going to be completely overlooked and undervalued by the time he gets to anything from KG and LW, unless he reviews the KEXP live performance videos, which honestly would be a great place to pivot to once he's done the playlist he's reviewing these from.
I completely disagree, I went in chronological order and loved everything. Finding just something you like and just checking that out isn't a good idea to me because that prevents you from seeking out other forms of music. I already liked psych rock before getting into them, so if I only listened to their psych rock albums, I wouldn't have heard what are now some of my favorite albums, particularly their metal stuff. Also, he didn't just skip FMB, he's JUST watching the music videos for now. So technically he's skipped every album so far.

They perform this whole suite of songs together live at Chicago 2024. You'll have to give it a listen at some point
I was there. It was insane!! That show was top tier start to finish

The version of this song off chunky shrapnel is my favorite
Check out the KEXP Infest the Rats Nest. So sick…..

We will know we have created true sentience in AI when they desire no more than to vomit then die.
