Come for the set discussion...
... stay for the interior decoration critiques! 🤣
The bunker was so Scandinavian contemporary minimalist, though. I kinda miss it!
The bunker returns 😂
The amount of dust that will get permanently stuck inside of it...
well, the actual galaxy is filled with MOSTLY DUST after all.
Not really, could easily cone out with a duster or compressed air. It's much harder to get it out of th flat circular tile based art pieces
Pressurized air should do the trick
Space dust
Pretty sure that ring is for dealing with alien parasites
I really like this. I've collected pretty all of the Icons/Ideas NASA and or space sets from the past decade or so, so this will be a great centerpiece for that display. Love how colorful it is and the amount of depth and varied techniques are used. Definitely not your average art set
That's exactly what I thought. I'm getting this and it will be my first art set.. though the Van Gogh one might join it at some point.
Honestly… I really really like this. Probably my favorite Art set to date, and definitely something I would pick up if I had the money. I definitely understand how someone wouldn’t like this though, it’s by no means something everyone will like, but I think it’s more down to personal taste than the quality of the product.
“they want to assault your wallet on a regular basis” LOL modern LEGO in a nutshell.
Jang critiquing interior decor choices. Always a classic.
I see a set that I might like to purchase, look at the price and think ok, thats not that bad, then I remember I'm Canadian...
The metal ring is something you can find in any decoration department ... usually it's used as a structural piece to support a floral arrangement (wreath) or a dreamcatcheresque creation though. I get that vibe that Lego has been secretly taken over by aliens who don't know what everyday stuff is for, like those in Third rock from the sun ... might explain the space revival XD
The colours are very wow. So pretty.
I still want a bunker Lego set.
I love your reviews Jang but my absolute favorite part of your videos is how you judge the lifestyle photographs 😂 keep up the great work man
"What is this ring?" LOL
When I first saw this, I totally wasn't expecting how deep and how packed with different parts it is. Impressive.
Looks quite colourful great preview jang 👍
I never would have known they'd ever do a set like this. I'm just wondering whether someone looking at this solely as a parts pack would have gotten their money's worth. Probably not. 😅
Depends what they're after. As someone not currently very active in the LEGO space, but I want to get into MOC building and have a Neo-Classic Space "City" someday - this gives me the idea to add brick-built starfields on the walls of the city's room... So for my extremely niche use, it's the perfect part pack! Too bad I'm years away from the stability of being ready to do that.
I'm excited for these
I think that ring hanging on the wall might be an embroidery hoop.
I like the idea of this set, and the details look like a lot of fun to build.. but $200 is a lot (and the lack of wall space), so it goes on the wishlist for now.
thanks for the review!
What I really like about the look of this set is how the uneven texture gives off the feeling of clouds of dust and gas that make up most of the galaxy.
Great review Jang! 👍👍👍
definitely one of my favorite art sets, other than The Great Wave. Love how Lego is using different building techniques. It's a gorgeous set, and looks amazing when mounted on the wall
It's beautiful, honestly. I really really like it.
Oh my god😳 I am DYING to get this. Absolutely in love.
Oooh, this looks really cool! I know what I'm getting for my birthday 🥳
lego going all in with space theme products
This looks like it would make for a nice Mergequake from Ninjago Dragons Rising!
looks sick
The ring is a decorative UHF antenna.
People will think immediatly of the Whirlpool Galaxy, M51. But the milky way looks like that too
So if lego is doing 3d murals now, does that mean we can get a global topographic map?
Funny looking pizza
Love this. Might be the first mosaic set I buy (besides the great wave which I'm trying to afford, but that's more a companion to Starry Night than the mosaic sets)
The inkjet printed art and ring are subtle suggestions on how to do your decor so you can afford to hang that beauty on your wall. Possibly also a Dreamzzz tie in as that is going to be a nightmare to dust.
I was very skeptical at first since up close it doesn’t look very good but at a distance this set looks incredible
given the context it seems likely that the spacecraft is the European Space Agency's Gaia mission
I'm torn and agree w/JANG it looks better from afar. Also love the commentary on LEGO's marketing stage/set, "I wonder if they've retired the bunker?" 🤣And, "What is this RING?!" 😂
As somebody who has paid way more money for way less interesting space stuff, I will 100% be getting this. Space is my greatest love as an engineering nerd and sci-fi author.
That is the one ring to bind them Jang.
Every time I hear the canadian price in comparison to everything else I have a mini heart attack
I liked the pip art sets. I hope they will still make them.
Stick the Orion minifig in there. Wonder if the spread of the actual stars would be bigger than him at scale
Clear candidate to be a shelfwarmer
Looked on the Lego site and there's no explanation for the satellite at the edge of the galaxy. Currently Voyager 1 has about 10,000 years to go to reach the closest star outside our own solar system, so putting it so far away from the 'you are here' label seems very odd indeed! Having a special connection to the 2 Voyager probes, I would love if Lego made a large scale model of one of them! Perhaps this is as close as we will get [assuming that satellite represents one of the probes!] It looks like this is about 2 feet across - would seem like it needs to be a bit bigger for the price, but this is a set that I am drawn to just the same.
I think this set was a therapy session for the Lego Star Wars designers.
i’m super excited for this! the texture!
Looks pretty cool at a distance. Do we know why the weird parts and shapes were used?
I wish the included some "glow in the dark" pieces so that it shows (in a different way) in the dark.
I cant frickin wait for the 18th.. im going to the lego store first thing in the morning
Not a huge fan of this honestly. I’m a huge fan of Lego and space but the Milky Way has a very distinct look (at least spiral galaxies do) and I feel this doesn’t capture it.
For the price, amount of pieces and the texturing it just doesn’t look like it unless you’re far away which isn’t even an option in most living conditions
I imagine half way through you'll start to think who cares where these bricks go and just start putting them down anywhere...
I’m intrigued by this line of sets. Does the coloring book and crafting market have enough premium buyers for these?
It looks like my room when I was a kid. Lego was scattered all around.
Yeah I got to say I am actually sad they went 3d with this one, I would have much preferred it to be mostly transparent coloured tiles with some of the glitter infused ones and maybe some printed like the new space minifig baseplates. This just doesn’t feel right to me, now had they done this to the map of the earth that would have been the much better call.
First Lego Art(tm) set i am intrested in... but than to lay it flat with glass on top. This would make a very, very interesting little table... 😂😂
The satellite on the bottom left is Gaia... which is appropriate as it's job is to help map our own galaxy.
I like the design of this one. It uses a big variety of parts and it should look great on a wall where you can view it from a little further away to get the full perspective. I like the use of the speckled trans-pieces. I think that adds to the luster of it. The price seems a bitt much but with the amount of parts it falls in line with some of the other wall art sets price wise. The Spiderman wall art is the same price and 1000 less pieces.
I was looking forward to this as a keen amateur astronomer but after seeing it i think ill save my money for more old star wars sets...
With this coming out I think they should also do other celestial art pieces like Saturn or a black hole or maybe the Pillars of Creation
I feel the only thing would be to dye down the middle pieces if they made it look more flat like a point you would get more lost in the art
A 200 euro parts pack.
I think something is wrong with this set. When viewed from above the galactic plane, the spin is counterclockwise. When viewed from below the galactic plane, the spin is clockwise. So is this set a view from below the galactic plane?
I feel like if I got this I would have to put it behind a glass layer. All that texture is lovely but I would be afraid of needing to dust all those nooks and crannies. Beautiful set though.
This sets represets Lego’s current problem of making everything over complicated. It could have easiyl be a more simplistic yet still artistic design but for some reason they throw pieces over it. Like it literally looks like that. A missed oppurtunity really. I get they tried making the galaxy half 3d but lost the epicness of an astronomy image with that.
Awesome looking set
Though the price to part ratio is great, it should be cheaper IMO
Art can be extremely expensive. Proper replica prints of paintings can easily cost $75-100 (if not more) $200 for what is a Lego painting of about this size feels perfectly within reason.
It’s going to be a huge pain when you bump it and one of those pieces sticking out falls off and you’ll never be able to find where it went again. I guess you can just put it back on randomly
Itd be cool if they made one of these for a map of mata nui or metru nui
Since they keep rejecting LEGO Ideas sets based on Bionicle, I wouldn't hold my breath. It would be great, though.
I can already tell you that 2024 is the best year of these art sets. Batman the animated series AND this beautiful work, idk if my wallet can handle it
Typically I'd say the price is crazy, but the wildcolors and insane variety of pieces makes sense.
Would leds make this set or make it worse?
i like it a lot, but this year is already looking pretty brutal on my wallet for the may-august releases.
so probably have to pass, but it might be worth getting in a year or two
Im conflicted on this set. I love the concept but looking at it up close it just looks like someone threw up a bunch of random pieces
I still have to build my Great Wave. -_-
The design should not have included any grill pieces. The design should look random, but natural. Grill tiles and wedges look out of place. It's the exact sort of piece you would expect someone to use if they were trying to make this set using pieces from thier own collection rather than buying it from Lego.
Other than that it looks nice.
It will be fun cleaning it from
Dust….
The earth needs to be a pale blue dot.
Where is the supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy? Come to think on it, they should have put a brick-built wallet there at the center ;-)
I dunno. It looks very 1990s in colour and style. I've seen shell suits that look identical to this.
How did we go from something as beautiful as A Starry Night Set to something that looks like a dog threw up after eating a packet of rainbow skittles from the same company ?
It looks more like a pin the tail on the donkey concept where someone put coloured tiles on a board whilst blindfolded.
Man, that texture and color blocking is so visually off-putting to me. It's like looking at an infection or a mold colony or something.
I think they should have made the Andromeda Galaxy instead. We will never really know what our own galaxy looks like; it would take half a million years to fly a camera out far enough.
Love the concept, BUT, hate the design. The sections that have a number pieces with holes in clustered together are a trypophobia trigger (at least to me). If you know, you know.
Hay jangbricks I love your videos I think this set is ok not on my list for 2024 sets and I definitely don't think this set is worth 200 dollars I can go buy a more rare set such as Lego Alain conquest or some of the older Lego Star wars sets but super cool love video stay cool stay safe talk soon bigred out
Interesting set. It feels a bit too random for $200 tho. Another comment mentioned AI art. Big parts pack.
If it’s only going to look good from afar then why do it in 2.5D? It’s not like the details have any meaning except for the spacecraft…those Avatar plant pieces are so out of place. Kudos to Lego for incorporating all the black holes lol
200 dabloons ?!
Isn’t the Milky Way a long thing goes across the horizon not a circle
It looks like a streak across the sky because we are inside of it. If we were far enough out it would look circular.
Honestly can’t tell if I like this or not. It looks really nice from afar but I start to dislike it as you get closer. Might still pick it up as an avid Lego art enjoyer.
I would have preferred it 2d with the dots at a lower price. But I like the colors. The 3d pieces look so funky weird up close. It's very messy awful to me unless you keep it hanging on the wall far, far away from you. It's probably a skip for me unless I randomly find it on Walmart clearence.
The design just really bothers me and feels weird and random for the sake of random.
It's not a toy lol. It's a luxury design piece for adults. So it could have been done way more refined as an adult art installation. They took me by surprise with their random design choice on this one. A bad surprise unfortunately.
I don't think I'll be buying this. But I would love to spend about 3 hours looking close up at all the details and weird part choices. Not gonna pay $200 for it, tho
That definitely succeedes at being a bunch of plastic.
that just doesnt look like milky way from my eyes 😂 esp the middle white texture feels weird
from the side its more like an alien cityscape
Really doesn't look that great when viewed close up
I really don't like this set. There are too many 1x1 holes shown and the center with the white looks too aggressive to me and a bit disgusting.
I love this, but my poor colourblind eyes are screaming at the thought of it! I hope the instructions and/or the way the parts are bagged are sensible otherwise this is gonna be a super inaccessible building experience!
I will never get why people buy stuff like this (besides for pieces).
Stuff like this IS impresive, but asa MOC, not as something you will put on a wall.
I love the idea but not the execution.
This definitely looks better from far away. Looks way worse up close.
Sadly, this kind of grosses me out. I don’t like looking at it.
To be honest, I do not like it. I do not understand the choice of parts. Looks rather weird to me.
