Wake up babe, new Reads with Rachel dropped
I can't believe she referenced PsychoPass too! I was convinced no one had seen it - it's a really good anime 10/10
I hope this book flies off the shelves
I was JUST thinking about how I want the book to come out already
you should do more author interviews Rachel! love this content! exciting to check out spin of fate and follow aa vora's journey
omg i haven't heard anyone in the bookish community talk about psycho pass. the first season slaps and i absolutely loooooove the main character. like for a while, she was my main anime crush.
To be honest I hated how most of the romantic relationships in Naruto evolved and how Kishimoto writes women and girls. The relationship between Sakura and Sasuke felt like the eternal pining and if you stay focused enough they will notice and appreciate. Also the fact that Sasuke tried to kill her and other allies several times. Same with Hinata. It also didn’t feel like a payoff because the women loved the men and then the men reciprocated their feelings, but why? It felt like the girls needed crushes cause their girls and then they became adults so all needed to settle down.
It’s also interesting how all the women except Tenten, whose love interest died, became housewives in Boruto. I‘m not saying it’s wrong for women to be housewives, but all the girls who had this intense training and near death experiences and kept powering through, and ALL of them want to stay home and cook(also where the PTSD at?). Kishimoto himself did admit he had trouble writing female characters and you can see that.
I do love how Sakura evolved and I liked it a lot that her specialty is physical strength while being an exceptional healer, which is a nice twist but looking back I‘m kinda bummed out.
I feel you so much!! like i love naruto and was excited after seeing this review, but the one thing that bothered me was this, exactly this about kishimoto and how he writes woman, every word you put down is what I had concerned about naruto!! but I have been stalking reviews of this book and its making me wonder if its going to go a sasunaru route instead, because many of them are saying queer enemies-to-lovers even though vora is not saying anything. even if its not queer i hope she does not go down to the sasusaku naruhina route (aa vora are you reading this??) and develops the relationship better because the only reason those ships are popular is fanfiction not the manga itself
Two of my favorite creators and author of a book I'm excited to read in one place??
I'm SO EXCITED for this book! Even thought I haven't read it yet, I haven't stopped thinking about this book since your review!
I'm so glad! Hope you love it
Edit: Yes. Talk to kids about religion. I was indoctrinated into Christianity from “Sunday school” (preschool and up) age… give children all the information. They deserve to choose.
OMG She’s Demi?!? Ace rep! Whee! 🎉
LOU. We Miss you! 🫶🏻💗
I’m going to grab a snack and settle in for a great time now! 🤗
God I loveeee hard magic. I don't want none of that nebulous soft systems
Girl, you've been working hard! I LOVE IT - really appreciate the amount of content you've put out.
Thank you so much!!
This just made me more excited to read the book omg
Another big BookTuber, Daniel Greene, read out SoF's prologue to compare it to other debut novels. He was shocked and amazed by how good it is and said the writing is so beautiful. He said he's 100% going to finish reading it and told his audience to buy it.
I bought it because of that video too, I'm having such a fun time reading it.
Just placed my preorder! So exited omg
noooooooooo, rachel tearing up while she was talking about her pregnancy struggles 😭😭💖 i wanted to hug you both.
This has just fully convinced me to read the book and about slower pacing, I feel like if you're someone who's familiar with a lot of long animes and manga like one piece, naruto, etc. I feel like having a slower pace than normal is not a problem especially when world building and the magic system is done well. I think it's the sense of discovery that pulls a reader in even when it has slow pace (also, as long as it feels like something is happening, even if it's a bit slow).
Not me crying watching this in the throes of postpartum depression. I can't wait to read this and support A.A. Vora!
Great interview Rachel, you should definitely do this again. Also, I was so proud when Cindy Pham mentioned this book as one most people hadn't heard of/ weren't talking about, and I already knew about it, so thanks for keeping me in the know.
I've always really liked this book and LOVED the author so I can't wait to watch this!!!
i share sooo much in common with vora's geekiness and am absolutely stoked to read this next month.
You’ve been blessing us so much recently
The first time Rachel talked about this book, I wasn't sure if I was interested, but then I heard withcindy talking about it, and watched this interview and honestly, I cannot wait to read it now. For sure picking it up in May.
Oh, exciting! I’ve ordered this from my local bookstore a while ago, as a Christmas present for my cousin.
Wonderful!
That was great. Thanks for putting it out.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I preordered the book when you last talked about it. I'll be showing off my first edition hardcover with prjnting errors with pride ✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧
Let's just all agree that the typo was an intentional choice to get the point across
wow I am more excited about this one now
Gonna keep an eye out for this book👀 I love the talk about the book and geeking out about the inspos. And I love hard magic systems, growing up with lots of anime (*cough*Naruto🍥🦊*cough*).
I just went to her ig and I saw a pic of the maps in the book and now I'm seriously debating buying a physical copy even though I pretty much only read ebooks
CAN CONFIRM ITS SO PRETTY
This is totally a me thing, but it makes me a little sad that she was advised to rewrite the book to be YA. That’s something I hear a lot, especially from women authors, and it’s disappointing because I am so burnt out on YA that even seeing something labeled as YA makes me not want to read it. This book sounds really interesting, but I haven’t enjoyed YA for a long time and I’m scared to be hurt again 😅
Not just a you thing. I very rarely read YA, I'm over 50, I don't want to read about 16 year olds. I'll make the occasional exception, but as an adult, I find adult characters easier to connect with.
nice
Is there a way to send A A Vora Fanart of her characters on her website?I don't like using social media.Would I have to send it to her agent?
Hey! I would reach out on the contact form on the website, let her know there that you have fanart you'd like to email her
