The narrative was that the dude had around less than a few hours to come up with this version of the song by himself, before he was to perform on stage. He's already done this quite a few times, and every time he sings another singer's song, in my opinion he nails it and makes it better than the original one. Mad respect for JJ Lin.

The contestant will then sing the song of the singer they challenge while the singers are given a few songs on the spot to choose and 3 hours to prep the song. Many of these old song from 90s and early 2000 are brilliantly redone and performed especially by JJ Lin.
