Answer: he doesn't. With the dark, long hair and beard, it looks incredibly out of place. I realize they're trying to rework Aquaman into a more likeable character with Jason Mamoa, but they can't do both. Either drop the actor or drop the constume. They’re not just Heroes, they ARE OUR CHILDHOOD GODS. MARVEL just became popular like 10 yrs ago (other than names like Spider-Man, hulk & wolverine) who really cared about marvel before 2008? But we hold DC to such high standards because they have decades upon decades of such majestic mythology to live up to. So scenes like this where their essence is done RIGHT. It gives us chills, even brings tears to some of our eyes

She immediately let him try to take the trident, and I bet you she was holding her breath the whole time, just praying for the lad to be worthy so she can bust out of this prison with him.
I love how they managed to turn Aquaman, the butt of many jokes over the years, into a true representation of being a king and a force to reckon with. Considering the other DC movies that .. well .. stink a bit (or lot), this was great.

Finally a heartfelt moment of humility and vulnerability this is easily one of the best scenes in the DCEU and the naming of the whole scene was perfect 'The One True King' just an excellent naming choice for it in a pretty well done movie now I'm harder on the DCEU more than most others that are trying to set a movie Verse but that's only because I do love DC Comics and their characters I want them to succeed and when they are interesting and well written I will give them all the credit in the world for nailing down such characters the Monster Verse is doing pretty well and the MCU is pretty much already perfection so they don't need too much negative criticism or really deserve it at all.
Remember when Aquaman was a joke for the longest time? I love how that stopped after Jason Momoa was cast, they made it work and made people actually like Aquaman.
