What are HELCOM indicators?

Indicators are tools for measuring progress towards the specific goals HELCOM has set, for achieving a good environmental state of the Baltic Sea. Indicator development relies on the best available science. A key element of an indicator is the threshold value, which sets the level at which the status of the environmental is considered good.
Indicator evaluations help us understand the current situation, in what direction we are moving and if we need to take action.
