Phil, you've been my favorite repair channel for a while. However based on current changes I've seen on other channels I think I can now safely say you are now the best repair channel as well.

Interesting stuff as always. I always learn a lot from you so thank you for that. My one gripe is that you can be quite harsh towards other technicians that might have had the board/device before you. Not everyone is at the top level, everyone has to start some where. I suspect it's why many people watch your channel and I suspect a lot of people watching have made the same mistakes and are looking to you to show them how to improve next time. I'm from the school of thought that you shouldn't give someone a hard time for trying, if they mess up, it's their problem and probably their financial loss, that's on them. But kicking some when they're down just for having a go and perhaps trying to improve theirs skills is a bit harsh. You always show us what they've done wrong and in most cases you show us the correct way to do it, that's enough for me, lesson learnt. Thanks again for the content, it's good stuff 🙂

I admit I'm crap at working on circuit boards, can fix some things change charge ports on laptops but even I inspect the board after working on it and clean it afterwards, a strand of wire in the wrong place could cause significant damage. It's all a learning curve, best to buy junk laptops and learn basics, more modern ones that have a second sub processor chip that communicates with the super IO are well out of my depth. Watched loads of your vids, enjoy the chat/banter hope you love your new home got it all sorted.

Phil can you do a tutorial video on voltage injection. I mean like 101 type video similar to your diode mode one (fantastic video that I go back to). Ideally how to use a benchtop power supply to short trace using voltage injection. What settings you should use (1.2v etc) and what amps.

would it be possible to have so many defects and short on one board? you can suspect that the former owner changed what he could to keep material and sold the plate completely scrapped ... But don't give up!!! You probably found the original defect and now just change what was possibly exchanged. I'm cheering for at least one of the three to succeed. Best wishes!

I have found a lot(10 meters maybe) of copper braided coax cable in our dumpster in the bottom of the building I live in. If I strip that, would it qualify as solder wick? I would hate to throw it out if it was good for wicking up solder.

I know nothing about this kind of stuff, but is there a reason why there's so many problems in a single board like this? Can it be a power surge?

Why don't you get a thermal camera? You can find those shorts easily with injecting vintage. Saves time and effort.
Uni-T has good affordable thermal cameras compared to flir.
