Three stringed cura, kopuz,is an authentic musical instrument that can be found in
Teke region,Turkey. Since yoruks and nomads carried them in their saddlebags on
the horses to the places they went, mountains, they were designed in small sizes.
They have the selpe style, the traditional playing with fingers. It is the origin of many
musical instruments. The stuff of this instrument is the natural wood that has the best
sound quality. It is cut up particularly up to the grain direction of the very dry and ripe
tree. Mulberry, cashew and mahogany are the main trees that I use in the boat and
the neck of the cura, kopuz instruments. I used mahogany, rose, venge and maple
tress in the keyboards. The pegs are made of rose and maple trees.
      Üç telli Cura/Three stringed Cura
      Uğur Parmaksız
Lives in Istanbul. He has been carving three striped kopuz, cura , a traditional
musical instrument since 2015. His biggest source of inspiration is Ramazan Güngör,
the three striped kopuz master. He had training about making baglama and
mathematical computing from Kemal Eroğlu,one of the most important baglama
masters in Turkey, and still going on his trainings and search. He shapes the three
stringed ones by using mathematical and musical golden ratio . He carves them with
      a detailed attention.
The three stringed instrument,Cura, is the smallest member of the stringed
instrument family with the most treble fret . A size bigger than the three striped cura
has one octave less sound. The smallest member of the striped instruments family ,
cura,is played with the finger force and used in different parts of Turkey. It has also
called as three stringed, cura, kopuz or finger cura.
The three stringed Cura,in teke region differs up to structural and
instrumental characteristics Watch the construction process in my instragram ahsapinsalar end youtube ugur parmaksız page.
This is three stringed Cura, kopuz. The vessel length is 20 cm. case length is 9
cm,keyboard is 25 cm, total length is 58 cm. There are 10 nylon thread frets. While
playing with the right hand, the left hand uses the keyboard. No need to use plectrum
since it is played with finger. The strings are thin steel,, the lowest one is 0.18 , the
medium and the high one are 0.20. The accord system is, low one (A), medium one
      (D) ,high one (E). The space between the lowest and the medium is 4 sounds. There
one sound tessitura between medium and high string. The accord system can be
designed as low or high according to this.
