people just do NOT bring attitude to the guitar strings like this anymore. except this guitarist. its all about harsh effects these days. this man PLAYS harsh. i love it xD
This is one of those albums where you listen to a song and think "this is my favourite one from this album by far". Then the next one comes on and you change your mind. Then the next one comes on, etcetera.
Piper at the Gates of Dawn is very much the very first of punk rock albums, amazing, also going as far back to groups such as the trashmen and the kingsmen
@@carstarsarstenstesenn crushed grass is totally like take thy stethoscope and walk. And I think carrion crawler is closer to interstellar overdrive. Riff is really similar.
This album in particular does fill me with a sense of dread, anxiety, and urgency of the utmost importance. When I listen to this album it's as though I'm running on pure adrenaline, trying to escape with life and limb intact, while being literally hunted by the foot soldiers (definitely that nice guy from the cover art and all of his friends!!!) of an enormous, daunting, yet unseen demon or force (John Dwyer himself!!! Duh!!!). This album is the soundtrack of this relentless pursuit and as custom dictates, it is amplified over the vast killing fields to taunt, disorient, and paralyze me with fear....and it does its fucking job. (32:37 is the sound of impending death and destruction for sure. "Crack in your eye" sounds like a double dog dare aimed in my direction to keep fighting. Its the demon's song of seduction dedicated to death itself). I don't know where I am, or how I got here...all I know is that it's time to fucking !!!!!RUN!!!!!

+lolttyl143 you just hit the spot with that comment. ive been thinking why i love these guys, but not their predecessors from the 60s and 70s, even though they really do sound quite similar. it is this feeling of anxiety, stress, anticipation of something unpleasant.
Listen to Interstellar Overdrive by pink Floyd and tell me the guitar tone on carrion crawler isn’t almost exact...or Piper at the gates or solo syd barrett period.
How can one not dig these set of bastards. Not to detract from their shit I do love the resemblance to early Floyd as Piper and Saucerful are my fave Floyd albums.Great work boys...I'd kill to see and hear you live in the U.K....pissed off I've only just gotton to know you exist...

This whole time no idea who I was listening to. And I've know about this album for a while because of song the Dream. I have no idea why the Dream is impossible to find on the baby driver soundtrack? it was in that movie and that's how I got hooked. This band has so many variations of their name so I always thought I was listening to different groups depending on the album cover lol Minotaur will always be my favorite from THE OH SEES I seriously thought they were a totally different group... Possibly the most blisteringly, mammothly fuzzplosive release from this band. If you like the first song, you should check out the ditty that was likely squalling in Dwyer's brain when he wrote it, i.e., *Les Rallizes Dénudés' "Night of the Assassins" ("夜、暗殺者の夜").* In fact, you should check out the entirety of the album it's on: *"'77 Live."*
Saw them a year ago in Toronto. Was somewhat disappointed. Only performed as a three piece. No second drummer, no female vocalist. Played for less than an hour, no encore. Kinda felt like they didn't really want to be here.
Un groupe de folie, super sympa. Pour les avoir vu en concert la semaine dernière à Bordeaux, j'ai vu un public déchainé et un groupe en symbiose (deux batteries, une vraie complicité).

Same same but different
I honestly dont see any correlation between the two

yeah, until he listens to it again!
I'm obsessed with Sticky Hulks.
I guess they still play all this songs at their shows now, like almost all of them.
this album has so many levels to it. Dwyer is a mad genius
beginning reminds me of early Pink Floyd, Interstellar Overdrive-esque
was just listening to that song before coming here!
Me too
yeah
the guitar definitely sounds similar
Piper at the Gates of Dawn is very much the very first of punk rock albums, amazing, also going as far back to groups such as the trashmen and the kingsmen
dig
They sound like early Pink Floyd mixed with The Stooges. I like it.
They sound like Thee Oh Sees :)

The Oh Sees are a lot like Ty Segall in that the more you listen to them, the more they grow on you....Both awesome bands/ artists!
I don't think Ty and Thee Oh Sees are that much alike
John Dwyer and Ty are good friends, so they have said in interviews. They both take huge influences from the same Garage bands
Jacob Mccurry yeah, but John makes much more experimental/wierd music, except maybe last Ty Segall record
+roy_for_real ikr last ty record is soooo beafheart that it hurts

one of the true gems in my life. i take it out and shine it in everyone's face for fun. thank you!
sad that they dont play robber barons live anymore
