From Australia I thank you for your videos. After owning a BX25 for 8 years you have increased my knowledge100%. The manual did not cover the the tips & tricks that you have given. I am so happy now. Thank you Neil
The reason for that maybe that they want your machine to die quicker so that you would have to pay money for new parts. I mean some companies are very shady.
Great info regarding the air filter. Once I remove mine, I always take the shop vac and suck out any debris that may be hiding back there on the odd chance it is hiding. That should stop it from entering the intake.
I worked for a major supplier of tractor dealers for 26 years, a couple of things I learned, the most repetitive issues were fuel or over heating, checking the screen in front of your radiator and using a radiator genie is high in my priority, amazing how dirty the radiators get with normal use, also even though I change all my filters based on manufacturer suggested hours, I pre- screen my fuel using a funnel with the wire screen, and a high quality paint filter inside the funnel, all you have to do is look in the bottom of your jug at all the trash that comes from the pump, overkill maybe on the paint filter but lots better than have trash in the tank,
I'm watching this while taking apart my ih cub cadet because a mouse made a nest over the winter, but really i need a compact tractor now. Luckily messicks is the second closest kubota dealer to me. It is probably worth the extra trip there in the future.
i know Im asking randomly but does someone know of a way to get back into an instagram account? I somehow lost my password. I would love any help you can give me.
@Ellis Clyde Thanks for your reply. I got to the site through google and im trying it out now. Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
I checked my axle reservoir a week after I got my L3560 when we got it a couple years ago and it was below the check port and added a lot more UDT2 than it be being just under the check port. Same with wheel bolts as some were initially not torqued to the correct value and two were actually loose also. Whether it was the factory or the dealer who knows but check your new tractor out with some real scrutiny because there are generally a few items missed that could damage the tractor. Tractor maintenance like greasing is a pita in the middle of a job but it pays off
Maintenance is important on any piece of machinery. We all are guilty of doing some poor maintenance. Thanks for the tips especially the ones on the directional fuel filters and the air filter.
I just completely rebuilt the mower deck from my tractor. It wasn’t, bad, per se, but it needed a good cleaning. Especially important if you buy a used machine to check up on the deck. It got cleaned and painted, a few pieces of hardware replaced, and it works great. I usually wash it off after I’m done mowing each time, and then at the end of the season when we take it off to put the snowblower on, it gets scraped clean.
In my opinion when you addressed the air filter change on that model, you missed a great piece of potential advice. That housing is equipped with a burpper (what i have always called them). It is the rubber piece on the bottom of the housing. If you squeeze it, a lot of that dirt will fall out of the housing. You can bump the housing after emptying and sometimes get a bit more out. Unfortunately not every housing has it.
Coy Patton: Mine has that "burpper" too, but there is still a good bit of dirt that won't drop out there. So before pulling the filter, I unhook the air intake hose, pull the filter, pull the rubber piece, then use a blast of air to blow out all of the crud. Only takes a minute more and removes ALL the dirt. Put the inlet hose and rubber piece back on, new filter in and done...........
honestly, I hate how people treat their lawn mowers! highly neglected equipment. I mean someone spends $5000- 8000 on a John Deere riding mower, then never changed the oil, greases it, cleans the deck or maintains it in any way. borrowed the neighbor's mower and told him I would do TLC. engine oil hasn't been changed, oil over filled, nothing greased and flat tires. I went through it including servicing the battery and found it was a much happier riding mower!
You're videos are great! I'll be making the journey from Pittsburgh for my next tractor for sure! How about a video on Proper Trailering? & Securing to a Flatbed trailer?
Thanks Neil, good pointers. My 100 hours isn't up yet but I'll keep these in mind when the time comes. I've owned 4x4 trucks since 1978 I've always done my own maintenance, but never once changed out the front axle grease/oil. Never once thought of it.
I don't know if it applies to anyone here, however, I'm always surprised to see on the forums, the guys who spend $thousands for Kubota equipment, then run to the local auto parts store and try to save a couple bucks on a filter.
Regarding the BX fuel filters...…. I've never understood the logic of having two IDENTICAL inline fuel filters on those machines. Theoretically, the second filter up by the engine will never see any dirt or need changing. It would have made more sense to have a watercatch coarse filter stand, followed by the final fine mesh filter like nearly every other machine has. Granted, the BX is tight on space, but still...… On my BX's, I use an all-plastic 200 micron inline filter at the back (WIX 33972) to get the big stuff and keep the pump happy, then an OEM filter under the hood for final filtering. The 33972 is a great all-purpose, transparent, coarse inline I use on nearly all my machines that lack a pre-filter, to prolong the life of the finals and give some visible insight into the conditions inside the fuel tank.
the reason there are two is because of the electric lift pump thats between them. The first one filters for the pump, the send protects the engine if the pump falls apart.
Thanks, very helpful videos. I have a Kubota mx 5100 with gears. There are 4 hydraulic fluid drains.I can find the 2 center drains. The other 2 side drains , I cannot find. Need help . Thank you!
Kind of hard to trust the mfg's recommendation on hydraulic fluid since many mfg's market and of course recommend their own brand of fluid. And, yes, it costs way more than other brands. Mahindra does. That's pretty convenient.
what about coolant? the kubota manual, on a mx4800, stats use good clean water and antifreez and mix it 50/50. will the normal green prestone antifreeze work?
From searching the coolant is Ethylene Glycol-based phosphate. Whatever that means. But says green coolant is what's used....Kubota sales their own branded coolant at looks like about $30 a gallon.
Do yourself a favor and write the date or the number of hours on parts like filters and also draw a big arrow for mounting it in the right direction on it, even when an arrow is already on it.
Excellent tips, especially the front axle oil, fuel filter flow direction, and the air filter tip. Applicable to all tractors, an excellent video as always. Thanks! 👍
I have a question. I have a bx2370 and the owners manual says the front axel holds 5 quarts of fluid. When I changed mine, it was showing full at 4 quarts. Any idea what is going on?
@@MessicksEquip Thank you for the quick reply. I let the fluid drain for 30 minutes and opened both bleeders and the dipstick plug. Should I have raised the back of the tractor when I drained the fluid?
@@alexanderwolfe1474 Its one of those area's that I don't believe you'll ever get out 100% fluid. Check it again after a few hours and see if it drops. There could have been an air pocket too.
I just got word today my salesman provided me with the wrong hydraulic filter and it damaged the pump. 64 hours....... Suffice to say the feller was fired and this was the first time it happened. Now thars a maintenance mistake.
My Dad had a friend who was working on a corn chopper and was cut by the blade and within 4-5 hours had to have most of his arm amputated due to infection from the cut. And a mower deck can be alot dirtier than a corn chopper. Call me what you want, it`s just a friendly warning.
Sean Rhodes If any doctor is amputating your arm in 4 to 5 hours; I'd suggest reporting them to the nearest medical board and discontinuing the use of their services imediately. Gloves only cover your hands and won't protect your arms. Probably need to wear a heavyweight long sleeve shirt, elbow pads, and a face sheild just to be safe. I'm guessing the idiot who had their arm amputated didn't clean a minor cut, let it get infected...then days or weeks later sought medical attention.
His hand sliped and he cut his hand on the chopper blade and it was infected so bad in a few hours they had to amputate part of his arm to save the rest of him.
Hmm, 80 weight gear oil and transmission fluid has a huge difference, don't think those are interchangeable, better double check your manual before just buying one or the other and just swapping it out for something different.
Probably the most common mistake I see time and time again! Is NOT using the proper tools for the job. The amount of oil plugs, bolts, etc. rounded. Because the owner "forgot" to use a decent 6 face socket! Is absolutely ridiculous! Gents, please keep in mind. Pliers of all sorts, adjustable wrenches and a vast etc. Are NOT proper tools for the job! It's that simple. Let alone the metric hardware being messed up by imperial tools!
Next time you're talking about cleaning mower decks you should mention deck wash kits. I know this video is almost two years old so you're probably not going to see this comment.

Shop vac the air filter housing before and after pulling the filter... its a few seconds and it helps keep the crap out of the engine.

OEM, fluids and filters, is cheap insurance. I find OEM filters cost about the same as good after market ones.

Dropping another LIKE on your video! Thanks for the tips! Watching and Supporting!
Number 1 problem I see is people not cleaning off grease zert before pumping the dirt on the outside into the inside
All of your videos are very informative.
What does it typically cost to have a BX serviced at a dealership? I can imagine quite expensive?
Depends how through they are. $75-$200 in parts, 2-4 hours labor.
really enjoying your videos

do you do other tractors ? like LS.. thxs for the tips

At 1.29 Use gloves when working under the mowing deck! You do NOT want to be cut by anything under there, it can cause a nasty infection!
