    Today we're looking at that giant new theme park Universal Orlando doesn't want you to know they're building. It's located a few miles south of the current resort, near the Orange County Convention Center. We're calling it the 4th gate because Universal has called Volcano Bay their 3rd gate, so while this is technically their 3rd THEME PARK in Orlando, it's their 4th GATE. We're going over technical details like permits filed for new roads, parking lots and water drainage, but also exploring rumors for new ride systems and exciting properties to fill out this new theme park. Hooray for Fantastic Worlds (or whatever they end up calling it)!

      I'll tell you what I want to see. A new land themed entirely after DreamWorks animation with rides such as a Madagascar boat ride, a Kung Fu Panda dark shooter ride (like Voyage to the Iron Reef at Knott's Berry Farm or Justice League: Battle for Metropolis at the Six Flags parks), and their own version of the Flight of Passage themed after How to Train Your Dragon.

      Theme Park Stop by Alicia Stella Twister the ride to come back as well as other beloved attractions that are now extinct. They could maybe even build dueling dragons again or jaws. I also would like to see a dive coaster or another flying dinosaur ride. A drop tower similar to falcons fury. Maybe a ride like: journey to the planet core made in planet coaster. And something original.

    It’s crazy how far things have come in the last several years. Not just with this park, but the podcast as well! It’s crazy how long we’ve all been waiting for this park and how close we are now!

    This was just over 5 years from today. Alicia as always breaking not only some real, breaking news, but so much investigative insight and new information. We're now a year away from opening, and we're now seeing the attractions completed, the landscaping coming together, and final construction of the entrance. UA-cam has been such a great place to follow these stories. What's more interesting for me in the UK is that we've just had word that land has been purchased by ComCast here in the UK, and that we're getting a park. So in 5 years time I'd like to think we'd be finishing up out version. Thanks Alicia.

      And you better believe I will be following along with the UK project in just the same in-depth way as I did for Epic! (After all, I kicked it off by finding the land sale documents after all.)

    Ian’s comment about Universal announcing this is so on point. Universal and Disney have two different PR styles. Disney announces years in advance to build hype and then people complain about how long it takes. Universal waits until it’s half way done although people who follow know what is going in. Although Disney loves the hype, they really hurt themselves when plans change from the artist renditions they release way in advance, ie TSL not having Al’s Toy Barn or Woody’s Roundup.

    I get we’re in a different era with theme parks now, but it would be refreshing to see a whole world or land at this theme park that is all original with original attractions

    • @ThemeParkStop
      @ThemeParkStop  5 років тому +9

      It is sad that neither of us even brought that up. We’re already used to the current climate. In Universal’s defense, original concepts have never really been their thing. But I’d love to see Disney get back to their Haunted Mansion/Pirates day’s and create something entirely new.

    • @AMagicProduction
      @AMagicProduction 5 років тому +4

      Theme Park Stop by Alicia Stella lol you guys are great, it’s just the times we’re in. But you are absolutely right, Disney is the one that needs to show the industry original attractions still work, and are quite successful**cough cough** Mystic Manor. Unfortunately, I just don’t see any non-IP rides coming to WDW for the foreseeable future :(

    • @MattMcIrvin
      @MattMcIrvin 5 років тому

      @@AMagicProduction Somebody asked Rob of Rob Plays if he ever thought Disney would go back to making original attractions, and he said "yes, but only after Bob Iger steps down as CEO".
      Old-school Disneyland was more IP-based than we remember: the Fantasyland rides are obvious, but also much of Frontierland was a tie-in with the Davy Crockett TV show, and Adventureland with the "True-Life Adventures" nature series. But I think part of the reason they concentrated on original ideas from the late 1960s into the '80s was that in those days, they just didn't have that many new hit IPs to base things on. Now they've got all this stuff they paid top dollar for...

      The one thing Universal has been original at is developing their HHN icons year in and year out, which is a good case in point as to why a dark ride with the icons would make for a great idea. Will Universal pursue this venture? Probably not. But who knows, if the Classic Monsters World is indeed planned, I can't see why they wouldn't want to dedicate a piece of that world to HHN.

    The other thing about Star Trek is that the IP has weird rights issues right now, with the franchise split up between CBS and Paramount. A theme-park land now would probably be asking for legal trouble.

    Universal has had some kind of idea since forever that the classic movie monsters are their great IP franchise, but it seems like they've never quite known what to do with it.. The 1999 Mummy worked, but they didn't even manage to revive that properly. But the Haunted Mansion-style ride with the old-school monsters, maybe make it just a little camp... I would be so there.

    Ok so... after watching, a few thoughts PLUS a stretch:
    - Nintendo Land.
    - World Of Dreamworks, if bunching it all together (can’t see them doing more than 4-5 properties within dreamworks), if they keep Shrek where it’s at, we can say Kung Fu Panda, Trolls, Madagascar, and How To Train Your Dragon. They could keep the Secret Life of Pets parade float, to cover that property, because, let’s face it, the movie was not that good.
    - The World Of Monsters would be ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Maybe do a meet & greet for every classic universal monster? Can’t really think of any rides that would go along with that sense. Maybe a walkthrough of highly detailed sets of each of the classic monsters? Instead of a hotel for just one monster, what about a central hotel, but each of the “wings” of the hotel are themed to each monster? Hall of Dracula’s Castle, a few “cabin rooms” on a swampy Marsh, laboratory of Frankenstein’s castle, and then maybe even an Ancient Egypt Pyramid section?
    - Fantastic Beasts is a gimme, in my mindset. I don’t think it would be named Fantastic Beasts though, if the new park is Fantastic Worlds. Maybe “Beasts of the Wizarding World”.
    - Jurassic World/Park needs to stay in IOA.
    - Gotta think they won’t touch Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, Ready Player One (would be better as a VR), or Doctor Who.
    My Stretch: 🗣GIVE US BACK TO THE FUTURE BACK! Imagine a world, where it’s 3 “miniworlds”, something like Worlds of Dreamworks, where it’s Hill Valley in 1885, Hill Valley in 1955, and Hill Valley in “2015”. And don’t worry about Hilly Valley in 1985, because it would just be normal. You’d hit all the timelines: the Wild West, the Past, and the “future”. Its timeless, it hits all of the major age ranges, and they could “reboot” a Back to the Future simulator, put in 3 separate diners (one from each decade). Then maybe throw in a Biff’s Car Chase ride in the 1955 section? Bring all 3 time machines from Universal Orlando, and have them on display in each section. Now THAT, would be cool!

    Mario and Zelda would be amazing! What would really make me happy, is re-vamped versions of classic Universal rides like Dueling Dragons and Jaws. I'd also really enjoy a fantasy medieval-style world somewhere within the new park. It would allow for so much awesome theming! I think the Classic Monsters would be so cool, Dracula's Castle-Hotel would be the best thing ever! I'd stay there every time!
    But I honestly don't care to see anything DreamWorks, except maybe How To Train Your Dragon. I also don't want this park to be entirely child-based. We need more thrill rides!

    More Warner Brothers? It would never happen, but I'd love to see an Animaniacs ride. As for Universal IP, I'd also love to see Jaws come back in some form or another, I think it's an important part of the studio's legacy. It's pretty baffling how few of the rides they have now are actually based on Universal movies.

    I hope we get some good transportation to city walk from this new park (in other words not a bus😂) as that was something me and my family enjoyed about universal- how connected it was. Hopefully the transportation will also stop by volcano bay!

    • @MattMcIrvin
      @MattMcIrvin 5 років тому +2

      Yeah, the wonderful thing about Universal Orlando vs. Disney is that you really don't have to worry about transport if you stay at most of the resorts on property--you can just hop a water taxi at any time and get to the front gates in a few minutes, and walking there is even feasible. A day at Disney World involves planning in something like a work commute. The new park is going to change the Universal situation a bit.

      2021: Jurassic Park Coaster in IOA

    Shrek 4-D may be old, but Shrek is HUGE among the current 11-17 set thanks to ironic Internet poop. Its cultural currency has had this weird mutant revival with kids that I think the rest of us are missing. I can't imagine Universal wouldn't capitalize on that.
    It's kind of like the way old Disney properties like Fantasia and Alice in Wonderland popped up again as psychedelic head movies during the late 60s.

Also, they should consider using elons musk's the boring company to build a tunnel under universal blvd with electric autonomous passenger pods that zip guests back and forth between parks really fast.

    Alicia, with the rumors now that Camp Jurassic is becoming World-themed, doesn't that basically kill Jurassic World going into the new park? I just cannot see them having that in two parks. Even one World-themed attraction, like this boring gyrosphere idea, would mean two parks having World attractions within non-World lands. That just seems weird. Have they made a last-minute change? Or are the rumors for the Camp Jurassic/Camp Cretaceous just confusing a new kiddie area in the new park for a name change?

    How about a Warner brothers world. Ready player one could be in it as a vr or they could take the scene where they got the first key and use that as there big boy coaster because universal tries to put in at least one big boy coaster into there parks. And I feel like it would be world of monsters or this because donkey Kong is still suppose to be somewhat on the low end still for high thrill. And u could use the new track system the one company just released which could be perfect for this ride. Or make a Dracula dark ride wing coaster and it’s about the same. But also for Warner brothers you could do the oceans movies which could be cool for a ride. Also could put Godzilla in since Kong has IOA in it. I was just thinking of ways universal could put a big boy coaster in because they usually have one in every park at least in orlando

    I *REALLY* hope the top-down soarin' doesn't go. And here's the 3 main reasons.
    - I can't imagine these seats accommodating a high rider capacity. Universal lockers are a thing I still despise, so it's either that or the 2-3 hour lines for Flight of Passage. // As opposed to the big theater arrangements that can hold 100 people per viewing (ala Soarin')
    - Universal's hit and miss with their screen rides as far as motion-sync jank is concerned. If you're looking down if it goes jank that's gonna get a lot of people sick
    - carrying over from the prior comment - people drop stuff. And if they get sick they'll drop their lunch. If the screens directly below you? You'll have a ton of sunglasses and stains on that big white bowl of a screen.

    I'm pretty sure DIsney is gonna combat this as there are rumors about a third Gate in California. Not so much fifth gate (technically 7 if you count the 2 water parks) in Orlando.

    This is all pretty close to what I've heard, but then most of it seems kind of obvious also. Nintendo is a slam dunk, as is DreamWorks. I hope they don't over pollute these places, thereby diluting the theming. If hate to see some Chinese stuff and then right next door some Viking stuff. At the very least, each miniland needs to be of a decent size, like the original Lost Continent.
    I think Fantastic Beasts is also a sure thing, and unfortunately Jurassic World too. I hope Ian is right and they just do the one Jurassic World ride. It's bad enough that the movies are so awful, but dinosaurs apparently don't lend themselves to decent stories, if theme parks are any indication. It's either "look at them" or "be scared by them". I don't see this gyrosphere nonsense being any different than River Adventure on Dry Land. Yawn.
    I am surprised to hear nothing about a Super Silly Fun Land. I had put them right after Nintendo, DreamWorks but before Fantastic Beasts and definitely before JW. It seems like a no-brainer. The attraction is popular and needs another theater. It's also something that would be relatively inexpensive and could incorporate a lot more rides, including an unthemed coaster as well as the important carnival games. I would've bet money on this.
    Good to hear about the Classic Monsters. It's the one I haven't heard anything about, though Universal has obviously been trying to make them a thing again. But they are Classic for a reason so who cares how the movies perform? They could do something new with Jaws also. Personally, I'd rather see them in USF for HHN purposes. If they moved Despicable Me and Shrek to other parks, it would open up the entire Hollywood area for some gloomy medieval village theming. But that Bourne thing ruins all that. Hell, they could redo New York instead. The Mummy could become not about the movie, Rip Ride Suckit could become Dracula Hunt (though he deserves better), and Jimmy Fallon could... Stay right where it is because that's the scariest ride ever made! Really, it wouldn't be difficult to put some Monster film in there instead. Or if they wanted to keep his unfunny ass in the parks: Jimmy Fallon Mutely Presents "The Ride of Frankenstein". (And that sentence is funnier than ANYTHING Fallon has ever said.)

      Right, but people don't count this way when they talk about Disney; by that reckoning River Country was Walt Disney World's second gate (or maybe even their third, if you count the original Discovery Island), and they've had as many as seven or eight "gates" around 1998-99, and six now. You know the movies Alien i don’t know who owns the rights to the films but I wish something happened like a Alien themed roller coaster aimed at thrill seekers. Like for instance it could be a plot in a park where you take like a simulated shuttle to a space station that has recently lost contact and your like a marine to see what has happened.(inside) You arrive and parts of the station are braking apart , no sign of human life. The train slows as it approaches the control room and a heart beat effect happens along with the loud beeping from the alien detector thingy and that’s when everything gets out of hand. Just an idea it doesn’t mean anything 😂👌

    • @MattMcIrvin
      @MattMcIrvin 5 років тому +1

      Disney has Alien! They just bought it with Fox (and before that they'd licensed it for a scene in The Great Movie Ride). What you're imagining is actually pretty close to a "Nostromo" attraction that Disney was thinking about doing back during the Eisner era (would have been a shooting dark ride I think), which eventually mutated into the short-lived ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter (without the Alien license).
      I suspect today's Disney wouldn't want to do anything with Alien, though... which means it's a potential bargaining chip. They could throw the theme-park rights in the pot with a bunch of other Fox properties in exchange for the Marvel rights, say.

    I just hope they keep it somewhat adult oriented, I feel like Universal is becoming too much like disney. If you look at the rides they had when the park first opened compared to what's planned or exists today it seems like that sense of being more mature is fading. I hope it doesn't turn into a park based off of video games, cartoons, and adolescent themes.

      You sound like being like Disney is a bad thing when it's the most attended theme park in the world. Of course everyone will try to pattern it to them. It has to be family oriented. The more you restrict the less guests and less profit.
