It's too bad studios don't make movies like this anymore. The old art style (Image AND sound) is something you can't find in recent anime, they are too much "neat". Sometimes just seeing the beginning of an anime like this makes me cry for no reason 😅. 懐かしいです。

Even just reaching N5 or N4 requires mastering enough Japanese to handle basic, everyday situations. It’s no easy feat to achieve that level in a new language! Eodisさん, thank you for continuing to study Japanese! Meanwhile, my French is still stuck at basic greetings. 😅おはずかしい I absolutely love Ghibli’s anime style and sound, especially in the older films. Hayao Miyazaki and Joe Hisaishi are true geniuses! Whenever Castle in the Sky is rebroadcast on Japanese TV, it’s a tradition for everyone on Twitter to shout “Balse!” together with シータ and バズー🤣 I really hope Miyazaki will keep creating his incredible films for years to come.

The hardest part is to process the sentence order in your mind as you listen, my brain is more logical than intuitive i guess so i "know" a lot of kanji and words but i'm still not able to understand much. Conjugations are also hard sometimes, i recently encountered the sentence "恥ずかしがらせてやる" and i was quite confused 🥲. I don't know how it was for you with english and how it is for japanese people in general i assume it's also difficult because it's the same the other way around. Do you also shout something for 魔女の宅急便 or となりのトトロ or any other movie ? 🧐

You can even just line up individual words without worrying about conjugations, and others will get what you mean! Of course, this might not work so well on tests like the JLPT, but a lot of native Japanese speakers also just string together words as they come to mind. The phrase “恥ずかしがらせてやる (hazukashigarasete yaru)” is made up of several parts: “恥ずかしがる ” (indicating a third person's feeling of embarrassment), “させる” (causative, to make someone do something), and “てやる ” (intentional action or determination). This structure expresses the speaker’s intent to deliberately make someone feel embarrassed. It’s understandable that a complex sentence like this would be confusing, Eodisさん! But honestly, you don’t need to remember phrases like this-they’re never used in daily conversation, and if you do try to use them, they often come off as rude, so I actually recommend not learning them. The only line we shout out loud from a movie is from Castle in the Sky! For other Ghibli movies, we’re just content to watch them over and over!

帽子をかぶって：単純に帽子をかぶっている状態を表します。「男の子は茶色のベストを着て、ぼうしをかぶっています。」
また、言い方によっては帽子をかぶってほしいと依頼する意味にもなります。
「日差しが強いから帽子をかぶって！」
※この場合は「ください」と追加したほうが丁寧な表現になります。
帽子をかぶり：動作を並べるときに使います。
