- OBS Studio Vs Prism Live Studio. The results will shock you!
Today I take a close look at how Prism live studio stacks up against OBS studio. This streaming newcomer really shocked me when I tried it, but how does it hold up against the best in the business? I compare the two free streaming softwares feature for feature and talk about how they both work and which is best for you. More options is never a bad thing!

I've been using prism for a few weeks now and I love it. The fact that I can stream on YT and TV easily has help to double my viewers. There's been plenty of ppl hopping on YT Live (never steamed in YT) that watch my podcast that don't do twitch so it's been awesome connecting with both at the same time. Way worth it for me. THANKS!
Awesome feedback. Thanks!
@@MichaelFeyrerJr how did you do that like and subscribe thing in your videos
This video answered my question for me, wow so amazing. I'm starting on this later on tonight. Thank you so much.
Thanks! Ya know.. your voice when explaining things is a lot more calming when explaining things especially when trying to learn.
Thanks!
Thank you so much Sensei! You are a blessing!
You had me sold on changing to Prism up until the end where resource usage was highlighted, I love its capabilities but man oh man it will require a beefed up PC/Laptop.
Maybe if its resources appetite is highlighted Prism will work on it.
I did approximately 34 DJ Streaming parties during Covid Lockdown, all using OBS/NDI and I would welcome not having to physically setup my Green Screen.
Great video!!! Thanks.
thank you for showing me this!! omg its amazing!!!
IT'S ALWAYS THE UNDERRATED VID THAT'S LEGIT! THANK YOU!
Thank you so much for your tutorials It went from 'nice tutoet science' to simple logic! You have a new subscriber
Wow ! This is wonderful! Thank you for the video. I WILL TRY PRISM ASAP!!! Salamat!
Mike! We need a tutrial on separate Audio outputs for Prism like you did for OBS please!
Thanks for this. Couple of questions:
1) Multistream out of the box is nuts! However, when we're doing that, do the chats for those different sources all go into the chat box as well in Prism? I stream to YT / Twitch / DLive and use Restream specifically so I can have the chats from all 3 in one spot.
2) Are stinger transitions available? I may have missed that.
Just insane Michael ! Thank you for your help with your video. I'll directly try this out. Do you know if we can export the scenes from OBS to import them to PRISM ?
awesome video thank you definitely going to check this software out.
congratulations fam!!!
Thx Michael, really good video as always.👏👏
Thanks!
Really great video, thanks! Does Prism have the ability to run a dual PC streaming setup as can be done with OBS (27) and NDI?
I appreciate all of your vids!
it worked! thank you so much!!
thank u soo much it helped a lot
This tutorial is amazing and you are really good at teaching !! great job sir !
Glad to help.
Thank you for this video! Its really interesting and enlightening. I would most like try Prism after this. Again...big thanks!
This is awesome! Thank you so much.👍🏼👍🏼
Glad to help.
great content Michael, thanks for covering these stuff. I like your approach to explaining things very much!
Thanks! Glad to help.
Thanks works fine. Greetings from Italy
Great information, thank you! Does this app make it any easier to have guest or do you still have to use a secondary source?
Still a secondary source.
So thankful for this
I have found the live scene thumbnails in Prism to be the cause of high GPU, CPU usage. They can be switched off in settings to be text only as in OBS.
Awesome. I thought that would probably make a huge difference.
Totally love watching your videos. They are so helpful. I am definitely considering moving over to Prizm. Thank you for all the help you provide for people like me that has trouble doing this stuff on my own.
Glad to help.
I’ve been using the prizm live app on mobile for 2 years because it let me stream from mobile before I had enough subs. Super easy to set up and a ton of features as well as multistream to different platforms. I’m definitely interested in this for the computer.
Awesome!
You had me at "annotate!" WOW!! And, with the plug-ins that you would normally have to install on OBS being built into Prism, that's pretty big. I see a huge potential for Prism!
it just means they have incorporated that plug in into their build, the only difference is you cannot remove plugins pre-installed, OBS simply gives you more control over what is and isn't added
Thanks for your great Ideas
Glad to help.
You have taught me a lot. Thank you. 👏
Glad to help.
You're a lifesaver... Thank you so much
Thank you for sharing this tutorial
I have downloaded and using it. Thanks.
i have no idea why, but hearing your voice just makes feel soothed.
Glad to help.
Another great video thanks for the info 👍
Thanks. Glad to help.
subscribed--love your vids
Thanks!
Might also want to do a run with OBS plug-ins that duplicate the feature set of Prism's built-in, then compare system usage. Would be interesting to see how much overhead the plug-ins do (or don't) add
Obs with plugins can do infinite more things than this prism is basically just slobs limited features and a different ui
@@expertnuggetclips
I get it, and while I'm not a fan of SLOBS (for various reasons) it did have a system performance advantage, early-on at least, over OBS Studio at the time, when OBS was configured to have mostly the same features.
So if you have to use plug-ins to match a feature set, it's better to do system usage evals with both apps running as close to the same feature set as possible.
I love OBS Studio, but just based on the general performance with my install +plug-ins, I'm not seeing a huge difference vs Prism on total system performance. Prism just makes some things easier/faster to adjust right in the basic UI without needing more plug-ins.
Am I jumping in with Prism? No, not really. I'm pretty invested in OBS, but there are a lot of features in Prism I would love to have be native in OBS as well.
@@Haladmer all they got over obs is a fancy ui, it's not special
@@Haladmer So again, it's about "customization vs ease of use" in general
@@Chu_the_Master Not for my original point, it's about the difference in the system performance hit of the two applications when compared feature to feature equally.
Out of the box, Prism has higher system usage than basic OBS studio (w/o mods or additional downloads applied), but Prism also has a lot more features built-in. So I'm curious as to what the OBS system hit looks like once you add in (and use) all of the same features Prism already includes.
Add-in features/mods can add a lot of system overhead (depending on the feature and version of the code), and for some content creators/streamers, this could be the point that moves them to use 1 application over another.
For me personally, it's why I used Mirillis Action! for so long, as it's what some call a "hook" app (it captures directly from the video channel without a lot of the additional processing apps like OBS inject) so runs much "leaner" in terms of system impact.
Again, I'm not knocking either app, I love OBS, and I also see a lot of potential value in Prism, I'm just curious what others who may have the resources to test, are seeing in their own tests is all.
Absolute legend. Nice one
This is great, thank you!
THIS TUTORIAL REALLY WORKS I AM FROM PHILIPPINES! THIS MAN DESERVES A SUBSCRIPTION!
Thanks for this, will have to check it out for sure. Wish I hadn't just signed up for Restream's service now since this does both the multi-stream and the chat.
👍
Great video I may give Prism a try!!
Im on it! Thanks for showing me a new software to use. I went from obs to streamlabs but i think prism is going to be the winner.
Respect to your good work, thanks a lot
I have quite literally hundreds of sources and around 30 scenes on OBS and a bunch of plugins and my memory usage isn't anywhere near as high as yours, very strange, still interesting program might check it out at somepoint in the future once it's have some more development time, nice video.
Hi, is it possible to integrate the Nvida noise reduction filter or something like that from nvidia in prism? Didnt find anything about it since months. Best regards
I tried and it is installed thank u very much anda
It definitely looks promising. I like inbuilt stuff, because messing with plugins is always annoying. However heavy load is pretty bad if you want to stream intensive games. If i am on the edge of having encoder overload problems in OBS, then i assume i would have even more problems with Prism.
I have a pretty beefy pc so I'm gonna stream with Prism on Saturday. I'll also stream from my not so beefy laptop on Sunday and see how it goes. Thanks for continuing to make interesting, valuable videos.
Glad to help! I hope everything goes well.
Yes @DanDMWG make it knowledge when you do that
Thanks for the video and I am going to give Prism a try. My question is: When I use OBS to show my music program (Studio One) and I want it to play the music I am making at the same time, I have had to add another program to make it "see" Studio One as something it can play. (I am not in front of my computer at home right not and can't think of what I use) But it is basically a mixer for my sound card.
Will I still have to use that program with Prism ???
Great content very informative ...Thanks for sharing this video
Extreme gorgeous and nice tutorial!!! Regards!!! :D
Nice comparison. I wish there was more testing on the cpu usage. On open vs Med Usage vs Heavy Usage w/multiple resolutions. But that sounds like an in depth vid .. lol... Good stuff
wow thank you, now i can have fun!
Thank you for this video
Brilliant tutorial, thank you.
Glad to help.
i have a question for you pertaining to obs file import over yo prism. since u didnt show off the importing side, do you know if all the scenes and stuff show up when importing? or no? cuz i tried to import all my obs stuff into prism live and nothing showed up. so i have no idea where the imported files went if they are even still inside the prism live folder. do i have to close prism live after importing and then reopen it for it to show all my obs stuff? or no? please help me with this.
Thanks for this Video. I was all ready thinking to use Prism but that CPU usage stats and all drop that idea away...
Just a FYI OBS now has per application audio like prism, per the last update. Albeit in beta, it is working good for me so far.
Thanks for the feedback. A lot of folks have not gone to obs 28 yet.
great video, I'm on a 2012 macbook running Pioneer Rekordbox to DJ. OBS runs at about 30% cpu with just a couple of cameras and auto scene switcher. Prism looks really good but might have to wait till i can afford a new M1 macbook, Looks easy enough to test though and see if my old 2012 can handle it lol
Can you link the setuper channel, soft and track, so you don't have to color and rena 3 tis ? Btw aweso video!
Hey thanks for the comparison. May i give a little idea to you. Timestamps would be very useful and perfect if you rewatch things or wanna point out certain things to friends
I usually use OBS for game stream but I tried PRISM after watching your last video, i love prism's layouts and look, it is easy to use but i went back to OBS for two reasons 1. when stream with prism it drops my in game FPS(fortnite) 2. cannot capture Valorant at all even with display capture, in that case i contacted PRISM and it was a quick reply it is impossible to capture valorant because of vanguard (game security software). since obs has no problems i went back to OBS. i will definitely use prism after they solve that 2 problems, it is an awesome software.
Thanks for the feedback. They are super quick to respond as well which is awesome.
working fine thank you
Michael, In OBS we use Alt key to set the image or video size. I could not find in prism. Can you Help ?
Hey, I just wanted to check briesofty if there is a way for to import a new soft into the program, for example softs or sotNice tutorialng that
I'm from Indonesia,, thank you for you sir because I got the answer to the problem my currently experiencing..
Even though I have a laptop with high specifications, it doesn't even run well when live in Prism Live Studio..
It's time for me to switch and leave Prism Live which has proven to be very heavy on CPU and GPU usage..
Thanks full ❤
Thanks so much
I just want to know if it handles multiple inputs bettetr. For me after about an hour i get frame stutters on 20+ video feeds, which is what I use obs for. I am still searching for scene switch by time of day...
I was just about ready to try it til the performance section
Maybe you can answer my question, for some reason when I try and add a video capture device my video camera isn't in the drop-down list but the HP webcam is and it keeps defaulting to that camera. At one point I had it working but I turned it on to do a recording and all I had was a blank screen. So following an OBS UA-cam video I removed the camera and went to reinstall the video capture device and my video camera is not on the drop-down list.
Thanks 🙏
What about controlling the stream with something like stream decks or touch portal, is that possible?
I've never heard of Prism before, but I'm liking a lot of what I see.
Thanks!
Thank you!
Very helpful
I tried Prism today and application audio capture is missing from the list, has it been removed?
I just tried Prism. I sometimes play Second Life through the Firestorm viewer. I tried to do a window capture and it just didn't work. I tried the same in OBS and it worked great. It seem Prism still has a ways to go. I'm looking forward to their refinement because they have some nice built-in features.
@Pauls Podcast agreed
You need to start prism as administrator, it worked for me
Can you please review EVMUX VS Restream or streamyard.
All of my sources play when I open obs. I've turned off the "playback when source becomes visible" but it still does it. I have lots of scenes and sources set up so it bogs my computer down until I can go through and stop all the videos. Any idea on how to fix this. I've searched everywhere on the web and can't find an answer. Thanks in advance.
Oh NOOOOOOO, not another new software system. I only have two brain cells. So very glad to have you Michael to go ahead of me and try out software and teach me how to use it. Thank you so much. My two brain cells tank you also. // So much work to set up a brand new system. I love it though. Great video, thank you AGAIN !
Glad to help.
Can Prism automatically record the screen on witch the mouse is working on?
I never stream, but I do troubleshooting tutorials, which frequently require switching from one screen to another.
With OBS and Advanced Scene Switcher (set at Region), it's easily configurable, so I don't have to worry about switching scenes, since this is done automatically.
Looks like i am going to try Prism.
I checked - everything is clean
Hi, I just installed Prism Live Studio, but there is no Application Audio Capture in it, are you using a different version? (I'm using OBS which already has the feature in it, but I want to change to a different software to stream as I'm having some frame drops with no reason latelly after the last update).
EDIT:
Solved, it is necessary to activate Prism Lab.
and thank you for your effort. If you can make a video about Lo-Fi soft, that would be aweso!
Do you have the Mac link? Looking to download this asap
Prism live studio works alot better than obs studio. I also stream from a low end laptop. Works great
Awesome. Do you stream games?
@@MichaelFeyrerJr yes I do. I stream alot onto youtube
Awesome! Thanks for the feedback.
@@MichaelFeyrerJr You're welcome
How do I upload my overlay tp this software?
Please give a brief description of the plugin, how to use it. How to use the plugin. How to use it.
Going Prism too,tnx
Hi, im a new streamer and watched your last Prism Live studio video, as im on a tight budget i dont have the best streaming pc but it does the job, sadly though after trying Prism ive now reverted back to OBS due to the fact that even with basic scenes set up the cpu and gpu usage that Prism uses makes it nearly impossible for me to stream, my games end up being laggy and so does my stream, yet when i open OBS and use the same settings there is no problem at all, the games run smooth and so does the stream, so until they manage to get both those usage down i'll be staying with OBS, i do hope that they do manage to reduce the usage down to level like OBS. When that happens i'll happily give it another try.
Keep up the great vids, they are very informative
Awesome. Thanks for the feedback. It is a concern especially for gamers who stream. They definitely read the comments here so they know what people are saying. :-)
@@dethkore8682 yeah i have my encoder set to my gpu, i was using Obs and just copied over my settings so both was exactly the same in set up, then while running a game and streaming the usage was up to about 40% against the same setup on OBS which was a usage of max 3% thats a HUGE difference, even Michael pointed that out in his video and his setup would be better than my setup.
@@soultaker0210 thank you for this information coz I also have the same problem as you have, with my pc not enough for streaming. So now I know I will stick to OBS for the moment!
downloaded and testing , the only issue im facing atm is its having trouble capturing games for some reason , iv restarted , trying in admin mod , restarting games ect , but still having the issue
is it correct i couldet see a record monitor option ? in prism ?
You’re doing great
Thank you Michael for a great video. I would love to see a comparison of prism with the OBS plugins installe. that would make it more apples to apples comparison to see then what the obs CPU and memory usage would be like. A lot of those built-in features in prism I would require the obs plugins installed. Thanks!
Interesting. But since we don't know if OBS overhead increases just with the plug-ins added or with them loaded into a running instance, it would be a bit more tricky to measure the relative impact.
Some obs plugins can effect performance, but generally it depends on how you use them.
@@TheSeeking2know Totally fair. I'm just saying if Prism Studio has all this stuff built in - it's not surprising the memory usage is higher. Just wondering what OBS would be like with a similar setup.
@@jeffunrau3958 Exactly. I would add that if there was a theoretical way to disable the extra features in Prism such that they wouldn't affect performance, would the system resource use come down to that of OBS?
@@TheSeeking2know Interesting point and I 100 💯 agree. I've tried prism and it's really good. That being said I'd love like you said to see prism offer basic like obs with the option to download/install through prism Extra features as needed. OBS gives you a solid base and just install 3rd party addons as needed. Downloading prism developed add-ons with the option to download through prism is a huge advantage -maybe even more stable than the obs third party addons.
i know prism had a good mobile app, i didnt know they had a desktop version. great video
thx and subscribed
Great video, and it looks like a great product. However, I don't see a Mac version available. Looks like they used to do a Mac version, pre-Apple-Silicon, but have since deprecated it.
