That number 8/10 people will receive more back isn't totally accurate, because the number would vary depending on how many people are making big purchases, and what time of year it is will also determine who is receiving more from the rebate than they paid in the additional tax as constant variables changing would have to do new calculations at each quarter.
So that number is most definitely optimistic & rounded up because they want to make themselves look better - as politics is all about trying to look better than the next guy even if it means slandering them and spreading false narratives or using hyperbole.
There is no way those cheques are more than the increased price of food, gas, and anything else the carbon tax has caused to go up!

Most people living in the cities are struggling paycheck to paycheck, they don't have the money to go make big purchases that would cause them to surpass the threshold of how much they would earn from the rebate.
Even though a lot of families live in rural and suburban areas and they are scattered further and far between, it's the struggling families that outnumber such privileged people who would benefit more hence the 8/10. It makes sense to me, because I am from one of those families.
However, I could see why the others are outraged, they the type to wanna keep all their extra money to themselves despite homeless and charities that need it just as much if not more, as they are entitled to do.
