Hello Houston, it is called a crush washer. It has a very specific engineering spec so it will get a bit crushed and thus provide a seal. They are usually made of copper or aluminum which are both soft metals. It also affords some protection if your drain plug gets tightened such that it will over crush instead of stretching the drain plug threads on the engine case.

Just me or is 500ml plus extra x 5 make 3 litres and the 400
Total 3.4 litres
never use a fram filter on any application
I never had any issues with them but i have switched to motomaster filters now coz they are cheap and just as good
