Why Leaders Choose Roundabouts

The city of Johnston has a series of four roundabouts located on NW 62nd Avenue, with a fifth roundabout coming this summer. There is also a plan to add roundabouts to NW 70th Avenue and NW 100th Street because of their safety record and efficiency in moving traffic. This video explains the reasons why Johnston leaders believe roundabouts are the best choice for some Johnston thoroughfares.

I love modern roundabouts, but not the larger traffic circles and rotaries built in the Northeast in the early 1900s. I love these roundabouts in Johnston.

Roundabouts are NOT safer for bicyclists. Shared use paths are simply glorified sidewalks.
