    2016 Honda Pilot rear brake torque specifications. Rear brake caliper bolts 25 lbf-ft. Rear brake caliper bracket bolts 65 lbf-ft. Never use a breaker bar to tighten your brakes. The sole purpose of a breaker bar is to loosen bolts. Remember to tight the bolts will share off not tight enough the bolts will loosen and fall off. Either one you will lose your brakes entirely. When mounting the wheel back on, the torque specification is 95 lbf-ft do this in a crisscross pattern. Stay safe

    Great video. Important to note the rotor retaining screws are Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS, which has a fuller tang to the point) and NOT Phillips (too “pointy” style). This is what causes most stripping of that screw. Looks like you had the right one but most do not realize the problem causing differences.

    Thanks for putting this video together. I was looking at my rear rotors the other day and saw the little cover for the e-brake and wasn't sure what it was and if it would prevent getting the rotor off so thanks for explaining that.
    A few other things that might be helpful. I saw from another video on the Pilot front brakes the slider pin bolt torque spec was 53 ft lbs and the larger caliber bracket torque spec was 101 ft lbs. These may not be exactly the same for the rear. If you could add the torque spec to the video that would be great. The lug nut torque spec is 94 or 95 ft lbs. It might be worth removing the caliber slide pins and greasing them with some silicone paste/grease. Great that you got an impact screwdriver....I got one after watching your front brake video and also when I stripped one of those screws with a screwdriver before I saw your video. I also bought some spare rotor set screws for 50 cents each at the dealer so when they get marginal can just replace them.
    Awesome you got 143k miles out of your rear brakes! I'm at 87k miles and lots of pad left but like to see how it is done ahead of time.

      Hey Jim, I’m glad both video were helpful. Thanks for the extra info on the torque specs too. That will be helpful for other viewers. I’ll put it in the description. Hopefully you get the miles I did on the rear brakes. If so, you have a way to go 👍🏼

    I ended up going with OEM front and rear brake pads. Hated how the aftermarket pads felt I live out in a rural area with plenty of mountains, and it made a huge difference.

    You don’t necessarily have to put the little Philips screw back in. Those are from the factory to help hold the rotor on while manufacturing. The lugs hold the rotors in place

    • @fixandplay826
      @fixandplay826  9 місяців тому

      That is true, but putting the screw back in hold the rotor in place to make installation easier

    That CRC red disc brake quiet is not a lubricant. It cures to a silicone calk like material. You did the opposite of lubricating the pads in the retainer clips.

    Did you replace the brake fluid? Sounds like it is way overdue. Most people neglect this part of the job. Brake fluid absorbs moisture and should be replaced when one does a brake job. If the fluid contains too much moisture, it will boil under hard braking and cause brake fade.

    • @fixandplay826
      @fixandplay826  Рік тому

      Thanks for the information. This video is only for changing rotors and pads. When to change the brake fluid should be checked in the owners manual

    Top-notch video--better than others on this topic! Good attention to detail; no extra nonsense; and good camera work and editing. Only improvement would be to include the 3 torque specs (25; 65; 95) mentioned by @esp9sram. Good to see included info about jacking location and placement of jack stands.

    Oh boy. brake quiet isn't a lube. that stuff dries and gets hardish and forms a barrier/film to prevent it from squeeking when they rub against metal. Not a lube for the pads to slide on. it is more of a glue(like silicone). don't use that as lube people. the hydraulic pressure will force the pads right through it so they will still work. But why try and make it harder for them to slide in the grove and harder to retract(which will probably cause squeals and squeks). which is was the stuff is supposed to be used to stop....ha P.S. People talking about "Not torquing anything" in the comments. Brake housing and calipers and lug nuts don't need to be torqued. Any good mechanic knows what is the proper tighness is by feel alone. Torqing is for Harleys and carbon fiber Mountain bikes. I don't know when all this new "torquing eveything" came about. Not that is is a bad thing to do or anything. But not neccesary on parts that are usually taken off with an airgun because they are forzen solid. I can put lugnuts on with an airgun and pretty much be right where they need to be(within 5 or 10-ft-lbs). by sound and eye and feel and skill. Any mechanic can.
